6.1 flexibility

Review: write down the five components of health related fitness and give a definition of each one.

Lesson: students were given time to complete their their review and we discussed each component of health related fitness. We talked about how today we are going over flexibility where does that fall under the five components of health related fitness. After the discussion we practiced the pacer test with the students, and did some cool down stretching to give some examples of how flexibility works and why it is important. After the pacer test we had a short lesson on joints and how they are apart of flexibility. Students then had time to complete an in class assignment, identifying joints, and where they are on the body.

 

Benefits of active sports April 12, 2018

Review: list one energy system used in your body and explain it in at least two sentences.

Lesson: 5.3 benefits of active sports

Today was sage testing for some of my students but not all of them. Those students who were here completed a review about energy systems and what some of them are and do in the body. Students were then given time to read pages 58-62 that talked about velocity, acceleration, and deceleration. Those who finished their reading early worked in groups on a worksheet together about some of the benefits. The students who finished that lesson moved onto velocity, and acceleration small group lessons and work.

Energy systems April 10, 2018

OBJ: TSWBT Identify different energy systems used in selected physical activity. 3.10

Review: explain the difference between active sports and active recreation in 4-5 sentences.

Lesson: 5.2 active sports

Student completed a review about a previous lesson the week before spring break to help them get back on track about what we are talking about. From there we had a small discussion about different energy systems and what how each one is used in the body. For example we talked about latic acid and how it is used as energy. Students were then given time to complete a sport with a frisbee and after the activity students had time in class to complete their objective by looking and researching different energy systems.

OBJ: 5.5 research sports and activities of other cultures.

Review: explain in 4-5 sentences what active aerobics is.

Lesson: students had time to complete their review, and each student was able to move at their own pace. We in small groups had discussions between the difference between active sports and active recreation and they put activities for each on the board. Students then had time to complete an in class assignment.

Depression March 26

OBJ:TSWBT review types of mental disorders 1.3a

Journal: write down what you learned from previous presentations AND OR write down something you would like to know more about in 4-5 sentences.

lesson: Today was the last day for student presentations, and students completed their journal before the last two presenters. After the two presentations we talked about Depression, how can you tell who has depression, what would someone say and do who has depression. We will finish this lesson on Wednesday. The assignment today students wrote down the definition of depression, 2-3 symptoms, 2-3 causes of depression, and write down what someone would do who has depression.

Pacer test March 26

OBJ: Identify the effects of environment conditions on activity performance. 4.6

Review: explain why it is important to have good stability and balance in ANY exercise in 4-5 sentences.

Lesson: Students were given time to complete their review and we did a quick reminder of what we talked about last time for balance and stability. As a class we went over some environmental conditions that affect physical activity. After which we took some time to do the Pacer Test and students recorded their information. After the test students took some time to write about how weather conditions impact physical activity and the body.

Alcohol March 01, 2018

OBJ TSWBT: explain the difference between social, problem, and alcoholic drinker.

Journal: Write down what you learned about your current drug you are researching in 4-5 sentences.

Lesson: Students completed their journal and shared what they are learning about, facts, street names, laws, etc. Then students defined in small groups what a social drinker, problem drinker, and an alcoholic. After they shared their definitions they listened to the song by Ellis PaulĀ All Things Being the SameĀ twice, once just listening and once with the lyrics. Then as a class we put short term definitions on the board and categorized them under the three topics.

assignment: students completed their past assignment and if they finished they wrote a paragraph on each of the three topics alcoholic, problem drinker, and social drinker.

Prescription drug abuse February 27, 2018

OBJ STWBT: describe the importance of guidelines for the safe use of medicine 3.1b.

Journal: list the three types of decisions AND explain two of them in 4-5 sentences.

Lesson: Students completed their journal and many students were absent that day. I spent some time reviewing what those choices are and how they will affect us. After which we spent a little time watching a clip about prescription drug abuse, and what happens in the body when we take a drug. Students completed a worksheet during the video and we shared notes and answers afterwards. Then students had time to complete their assignment about their drug they researched.

Review: list five benefits of physical activity.

Lesson: Students completed their review, and we talked about the different parts of the body that physical activity could benefit. Students were then given time to participate in activities that use friction outside. (the gym was being used so we were outside, and will complete the inside activities next time). After the activity students completed a worksheet explaining what they did, and how friction was applied in their activity.

Decision making February 23, 2018

OBJ TSWBT: USE decision making skills to solve problems.

Journal: write down the six steps for refusal skills AND explain steps in 4-5 sentences.

Lesson: Students completed their journal, and we did a quick review going over the six steps. After which I shared my story about making choices and how they affect us. We talked about the three kinds of choices such as; snap decision, responsible, and no decision. Students were then give time to complete their assignment.

assignment: students need to find three stories and explain a point in that specific story about one of the three choices; snap, no decision, and responsible decision.
