The 7th graders had a wonderful experience at Stem Fest last week. Students enjoyed exciting hands-on experiences with science and technology that sparked their imaginations and gave them a peek into their future career opportunities right here in Utah.
On Wednesday CTE Introduction will be researching programs offered by Ogden Weber Applied Technology College and Davis Applied Technology College in preparation for our arranged tour of the Ogden Weber ATC. The eighth graders attended the Davis ATC last year and have been invited to join the 7th graders this year as we tour the Ogden ATC.
Permission Slips were passed out to the students and were required to be returned Friday, April 17th. Students who failed to return their slips on time will not be able to join the group. Because we find great value in helping students understand their career training options those students staying behind will be required to choose one program from either ATC to research. In lieu of attendance at the ACT they will then take their research to complete a Utah Compose informative essay. This essay will need a minimum of three revisions and a minimum score of 15. Students who don’t complete their essay in the time provided on Friday will be working on it until it is finished, instead of attending field day and other extra-curricular activities.

In April we are doing TWO fantastic trips. On April 10th we are walking over to the North Ogden Community Gardens and doing Spring Clean Up. I need two chaperons to join us.
On April 24th, we will be riding the city bus over to the Ogden Weber Applied Technology College for a tour. We are splitting the school into two trips and need 4 chaperons on each trip.

All 7th and 8th grade students need to complete the following essay on Utah Compose. Here are the steps to get started:
Open a browser (aka, get on the internet)
http://utahcompose.com
log in (it’s your SIS student number, with three 000 added in front of the SIS#, for both log in and password, then you can change it)
Go to keyboarding or digital literacy (which ever you currently have)
Press the practice tab and find ‘Job Shadow Experience’
I have uploaded the job shadow reflection form if you would like to use it as a pre-write.
When you begin your writing you are welcome to copy and paste from your reflection form. You may also copy and paste from a word processing program. If you want to finish working on it later click “save & quite.” Otherwise, you can submit your work using the “submit” button.

All 7th and 8th grade job shadow reflections are due December 5th. Here are the links for the forms:
Student Reflection Form (the same form for 7th & 8th grades) The reflection form will be used as a pre-write for a Utah Compose writing exercise for all students.
Job Shadowing Presentation Rubric (7th grade only) My CTE Intro students have already recieved their job shadow packet. This original packet is worth 30 pts. However, reality dictates that life happens and they will need another copy. However, it will cost them 30 points when they turn in the secondary copy.
Students will also be required to write a thank you letter to their host/hostess. If you would like a copy of the thank you letter format just email me and I will forward that to you.
If, for whatever reason, your student did not job shadow they will need to choose a job or occupation to research. They will still be required to present. If you have any questions about this wonderful opportunity don’t hesitate to email Ms. Emily any time! egoddard@mariamontessoriacademy.org

The event is this Friday. Volunteers need to report to the Discovery Gateway at 8:30 for a brief training. We should be done between 1 and 1:30 pm.
Please let Ms. Emily know of any students with alternate travel plans other than the Front Runner so an accurate head count can be established.
