A few things about lunch.

Parents I cannot emphasize enough how important it is that we do not allow students to bring colored drinks.  These spill so easily and stain the carpet.  I have issues with students bringing large sport drinks, powder colored drink mixes, etc.  Please do not make me the bad guy and save these for when you are home.  Also, red hot cheetios are not allowed during school hours.  They have created burning yes, red fingers which stain materials, etc.  Please use caution when purchasing items for your child’s lunch.

We will no longer have plates and silverware provided by the classroom for lunch.  If your child needs such items, please make certain they are packed in their lunch for the day.   It became a management issue for children to wash the classroom dishes they borrowed in the past.  I rather spend my time lesson planning and not washing dishes at the end of the day.  Please note, children have the means available to wash their own dishes before they are packed to return home.

Thanks for your support in making lunch a success.

MMA Blog

Hi Families, just wanted to quickly let you know that I posted a link on our classroom blog that allows for you to access the school main blog.  I noticed that you can now order school spirit shirts which can be worn any day of the week.  This is the only shirt that can be worn during school hours that does not have a collar.

Aaahhhh It’s HERE!

I cannot believe summer vacation is coming to an end!  I am so excited to see everyone. I have missed those sweet smiles and dancing eyes so much, and I am looking forward to meeting new smiles in only a few short days.  All 1st graders and new to the school 2nd and 3rd grade students will attend this Friday the 15th from 1:00-1:45 p.m.  Ms. Lily, my assistant, will be out front with a sign.  Please gather with her and she will bring everyone in together.  Please also note that parents will not be coming into the school with your children during the first 6 weeks of school. ( If needed, older students will be available the first few days to help younger students find classes.)  This is all apart of the Montessori normalization period which ends on October 1st.  This is to help students gain independence and confidence.  If you have questions regarding this philosophy feel free to contact me.

The first few days back to school are really busy, with that being said, it would be helpful if school supplies could be dropped off before school starts Monday.  I am at the school all this week, please feel free to stop in and drop them by.  I forgot to include that your child will need a water bottle.  This can be filled throughout the day to minimize the distraction of leaving to visit the water fountain. They will be sent home at the end of the week to be washed and then returned back to school on Monday.

I will be posting a link under wejoin in for snack sign up.  Please choose at least 1 or 2 weeks to provide healthy snacks for our classroom.  The children will prepare the snack as part of their practical life work for the day, please do not precut fruits and such.  These snacks provide the students with the fuel they need to get through their morning work cycle.  Thank you for your help with this.

We also have the school run for the redwoods 5K coming up on September 13th.   This is a great way to have fun and help with the 6th grade fundraiser so, start training.  If you are interested in helping with this fun event please let the front office know and they can provide contact information.

We also have our back to school breakfast this Saturday from 8-10 a.m..  This is a fun way to start the year, come together and help kick off the 6th grade fundraising.

Lastly, I am looking for a room mother, mainly to help organize classroom parties. This is a great way to get in your 40 hours of volunteer work.  Also, if you are interested in coming into the classroom to read with students, please let me know.

Get Ready!

School is coming so soon!  I am so excited to see our old friends and meet new ones.  I enjoyed seeing so many of you at our back to school pool party.

I know many of you are getting ready and are looking to purchase items for the new school year.  I have posted a school supply list page, just click on the link under the home page.  Please refer to our new dress code for this new year.  Basically, solid colors and collared shirts all week long.  Please don’t forget to purchase inside shoes, these are part of dress code and an important part of the Montessori environment.  Inside shoes (slippers) may have a small print, but no logos, characters, glam, glitz, etc.

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Wrapping Things Up

This will be our last week of regular morning work cycle.  I would like for our monthly home projects to be presented by the end of the week.  If for some reason you need to go into the following week, please let me know so we can schedule accordingly.   We had a handful of students who went on vacations to exciting places this month and would like to encourage you to have your child prepare a presentation (home project) to share with the class.

We will be having students from the kindergarten classrooms shadowing in our classroom this week.  Level 1’s and 2’s will be able to introduce themselves to the students who will be joining us next year.  This is such an exciting time of the year.  We will be having a special bridging ceremony for the kindergarteners moving up to first grade this Thursday.  We will be having a picnic lunch this day and I ask that you not send a lunch that needs to be warmed up.  Third grade parents should have received an email about your child’s ceremony for May 27th.

Field day is Friday.  Lower El will be participating in the morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  The North Ogden Fire Department will be coming to the school at 2:15 pm to squirt the kids with water in the school field area. PARENTS NOTE: Please put sunscreen on your child or send sunscreen (labeled with your child’s name) with your child to school so they can apply it themselves. Each child needs to bring a towel and wear a swimming suit under their clothes. For girls, their swimming suit needs to be a one piece (NO 2-PIECE OR TANKINI) will be allowed.

Fat Boy ice cream fundraiser forms are due Monday.  Friday afternoon will be the ice cream pick up at the North Shore parking lot.

Snack help for this week is much appreciated.  If you have surplus of anything at home the kids would love to use it this week.

Last Reminder

Parents Tomorrow is our field trip to the farm.  Our room mother stated that only 3 students have asked for rides.  Please know, for liability reasons,  that it is your responsibility to arrange transportation for your child.  We do have a limited number of parents who are willing to provide a ride, but you must contact our room mother.  Please remember they will be getting dirty, please dress them appropriately.  Good shoes are a must.  Sunscreen would be an excellent idea and remember no heat ups for lunch.  It should be a fun day!  We will leave at 9:00 a.m. from North Shore.  Just a few permission slips were not handed in today, please make certain you send them.

Thank you

Thank you for the wonderful teacher appreciation gifts this week, I especially love cut flowers and have really enjoyed having them in the classroom this week.  I love your children and thank you for allowing me to be apart of their growth.

Field Trip

I know the kids are excited to be heading to Ms. Shanan’s family farm, Holmgren Historical Farm, in Tremonton. This has been a big hit in years past.  We will be joining her class for the field trip this Wednesday.  Ms. Shanan has been preparing permission slips and they will be sent home Monday, please have your child return them Tuesday.  I wish we had certified drivers for our class, with this being said, for legal reasons you are responsible for arranging a ride for your student.  Please contact our room mother for any assistance you may need in this area or your willingness to provide a ride.  We welcome and encourage you all to come and enjoy this exciting day with us.  We will be leaving the school from North Shore at 9:00 a.m. and will be leaving the farm around 1:30  p.m. and returning back to the school for regular dismissal.  Please dress your child in clothes that will encourage exploration.  They will be getting dirty!  Sunscreen and water bottle are strongly encouraged.  Remember to bring a sack lunch.  We will be roasting marshmallows and doing some dutch oven apple crisp.  We will be asking for donations for these items.  Please see the we join in link, and thank you in advance. This should be a great learning experience and a fun celebration for our end of year!
