Absence

I wanted to let you know that I spoke with the students yesterday and explained I will be away from the classroom and out of the country from April 27th to May 5th.  Please know that I am away and will do my best to respond to emails in a timely manner.

Ms. Susan will be taking over the classroom in my absence along with two wonderful substitutes.  I have planned some wonderful lessons and activities in my absence.  Students will begin earning classroom money in preparation for our end of year “Store”.  This is a much anticipated event and a great way for students to deepen their understanding of money.  I will be sending out further information in the near future.

Field Trip

Monday I will be sending home bright orange permission slips for our upcoming field trip to the library.  The students will be walking to the library the afternoon of May 11th.  Please return these forms back as soon as possible.  If you would like to come along, please let us know.  We would love the extra company.  Students will be learning more about our library and the upcoming summer reading programs.

Spring Fever

It’s that time of year!  Once the weather hits above 70 degrees, the students start to get anxious and excited in anticipation for summer vacation.  I do my best to avoid any conversations of the up coming summer.  We try to keep them focused and working for as long as possible.  It is hard to believe that 6 weeks from today will be the last day of the 2015-2016 school year.  Our calendar will be filling with numerous events over the next several weeks and the disruption in routine, along with their excitement, can be challenging for many students.  We have found that if students are struggling with self control and following directions this time of year, it can be helpful to make a brief call home explaining their choices. We appreciate your support and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me.

We had a wonderful afternoon spending time outside for our cultural lessons this week.  We will be spending more and more time outdoors in the coming weeks.  If you are concerned about your child’s sun exposure, please feel free to send some sunscreen or a hat to wear when outdoors.  Many students no longer have water bottles at school and this would be another great item to have when outside.

Thank You

Thank you for all your help and support with the field trip this week.  Although the students did not have a chance to roam the grounds and do some bird watching, they had a wonderful experience inside the classrooms.

Also, thank you for supporting our talent show this past week.  I was really sad I wasn’t able to attend.  We had a friend from our classroom perform and she expressed it was a wonderful time.

Third graders test on Monday, please help your child get a good night rest, breakfast and lunch.  Last time we took in snacks, but they became a distraction.  Students do not normally have afternoon snack and we will be testing in the afternoon, so please don’t send a snack for your students during testing.  If students need a snack break, I will provide something for them.  I would suggest they bring a water bottle.
