Parent Education Night
Field Trip Friday
Hi,
I still have several students who are not signed up for rides for our field trip Friday. Please sign up, tonight, even if you are providing your own ride. This allows for me to make certain all students are accounted for and able to attend. We have plenty of seats available this time. I ask that if you are driving or riding with someone, please arrive at the North Shore parking lot no later than 8:20 a.m. Please do not come into the school, I will meet those who are driving or riding with others at the North Shore parking lot starting at 8:15 a.m. I will provide you a list of who you will be driving that morning. Please be on time and courteous to others. We are asked to be at the museum at 8:50 a.m. Ms. Stephanie will be at Hill Force Base Museum at 8:45 a.m. to greet students. You can find the sign up sheet here. If you have questions or concerns, please let me know.
Ogden Electric Parade
November 24th is the annual Ogden Electric Lights Parade. Our school will be represented and the marketing committee has come up with a float that will represent MMA.
We are looking for students from MMA who would like to be part of our parade! The meeting place will be in front of the Ogden Temple. The parade starts promptly at 5:30pm. The floats will be lined up at 5pm.
Students 12 years and younger must ride in the trailer or truck. If you are over the age of 12 then you may walk next to the float. Students who ride or walk will be carrying white peace signs or holding tea lights.
If your child would like to be a part of the parade then we will have waivers to sign in front of the temple.
The parade starts on 22nd and Washington and then ends at 27th. My advice would be for our MMA parents whose child(ren) are in the parade park towards the end of the parade so when we are done you can find your child.
We have some, but if your child would like to wear glow necklaces and bracelets during the parade we highly suggest the more the better! (It is a light parade!) the glow wear is also our symbol to honor Troy and Molly Cox.
If you have any questions you can ask Autumn in the office or me- Ms. Kaley. I will do my best to answer anything I know 🙂
Book Feast
Tomorrow is our annual class book feast. For those of you new to our class this year, it is much like a read-a-thon. We will be celebrating our love of books with our mentor class. Students may bring books from home, but I would suggest having them labeled. They may also bring a small pillow or blanket, but it must fit into their lockers. We will be starting our book feast at 10:30 a.m. and will end our book feast by enjoying lunch with our mentor class.
Please remember our Cultural Festival will start tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. and finish at 3:00 p.m. Please remember to have your child take home their projects at the end of the festival.
Next Home Project
Hi, I wanted to let you know that we will be starting our next study when we return from the break on the theme of STRUCTURE. We have made some small changes to the project expectation which will be due Friday, January 18th. The changes are as follows:
Level 1: Will research and present on a scientist
Level 2: Will do a project using the scientific method
Level 3: Will present on either simple machines or forces of motion
I will include the original write up below. The students will be presenting school wide after STEM week starting January 22nd.
Please note, they will likely not be ready to explore their ideas until the foundation lessons have been presented. I would suggest opening the conversations once we enter the month of December.
Structure November 26th-January 11th
Stem Fair January 14th
The theme STRUCTURE is what your child will be studying during our third thematic unit. To relate the theme STRUCTURE to our STEM Festival the week of January 14th, STRUCTURE can mean certain processes scientists use or explore such as the scientific method, the physical structure of matter or the structure of the universe, the structure of the classification of living things and so much more. There’s a lot to explore!
For the STEM Fair home project, we will ask that your child create a science presentation based on Utah state science standards they’ve been studying in class. We want to treat our STEM Fair not as a general “Science Fair,” but rather a celebration of science.
A science celebration presentation is not limited to just a tri-board. Listed below are ideas your child can choose from (but are not limited to) for the STEM Fair.
Some ideas include, but are not limited to:
- Poster or tri-fold board
- Brochure
- Hands-on experiment with write-up
- Experiment demonstration by student (must be able to show over and over)
- Create a board game
- Video (Example: Make their own Bill Nye)
- Performance or skit
- Diorama
- Create a book
- Create a lesson or work
Below is a list of state standards that your student should be familiar with by the second half of the year when we hold our STEM fair:
1st grade- Scientific Method on Earth/Space sciences, Life sciences, or Force and Motion
2nd grade- Scientific Method on Earth/Space sciences, Life sciences, or Force and Motion
3rd grade- Sun, Earth, Moon relationship, Living and Non-living within an Environment, Forces and Motion, Gravity, Heat and Light
Pizza Lunchables
Families, I am coming to you to ask for some help. This year we have a very popular lunch item within our classroom, Pizza Lunchables. Unfortunately, I am asking, okay, begging for them not to be sent to school. The mess they are making within the classroom has become beyond problematic. Despite individual lessons, it has not improved. The kids are squeezing the sauce everywhere and cheese sprinkles are getting smashed into everything. I know from a parent perspective we sometimes don’t realize the lunch choices we support at home, but sometimes taking a moment to reflect if your child is independent with the lunch they are bringing, is this something they can prepare on their own, clean up on their own, and finish eating in a timely manner. Our lunch time is 30 minutes. Thank you for your mindfulness and support.
Rides and chaperones for our field trip November 30th
Hi, you can find our sign up for field trip rides here. If you are providing your own ride, please still sign up, so I know all students have transportation. If you are willing to help with rides, please send me an email. I am also looking for chaperones. Thanks so much for your support and willingness to help.
Cultural Festival Reminder
Please remember that our cultural festival is this coming Friday. All students will present their projects that afternoon. Families may visit the school from 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. Please seek additional details from the school newsletter that will be sent out on Monday.
