Homework

Thank you to those of you who are working hard with your children to complete your reading logs and returning your homework folders.  Today, I included a home project paper to help guide research for December’s project on Australia.  This is the last week of school for November.  Home projects on history are due Friday.  Please refer to the IXL homework page for this weeks assignments.

Book Feast

Thanksgiving is the time of year when we reflect on the things we are most grateful to have. The students have been working hard on creating their own gratitude journals this month.  I would like to celebrate our gratitude for books by having a Thanksgiving book feast.  We will be feasting on books this Friday afternoon.  I am asking students to prepare an informal book report to share with their classmates.  The students will be sharing their favorite books with friends, so please have their books from home labeled.  Students may bring a small blanket, pillow, healthy snack to share and good books to read.

Homework

Thank you for helping your children with their homework this past week.  I was thrilled to see all the reading logs come in.  Please be sure to log onto IXL.  If your child’s first initial and last name don’t work, please try adding a 1 at the end.  If you are not able to log on after trying that, please let me know.  I still have several students who have not logged in. Last week, I held off assigning certain lessons in hopes to get everyone a chance to become comfortable logging on.  Please make the effort to do this asap.  The IXL homework page in up on the blog.  Please check to see which lessons are assigned this week to each grade level.  This will be updated weekly.  Also, double check that your child is practicing the correct grade level, please do not go below your grade level, unless it is assigned to you.  I have made some additional remarks on the IXL page, please take a moment to look those over.

November is a short month to complete home projects.  We have a half day this Friday and students will be released at 1:00 p.m.  Then, one week before Thanksgiving break.  So, please, encourage your child to complete their project before the break.

Get Down and Dirty with Montessori Materials

Maria Montessori Academy

invites you to

Get Down And Dirty With the Montessori Materials

Maria Montessori Academy

Wednesday November 12, 2014

6:30-8:30

Join us for an evening of getting “down and dirty” with the Montessori materials.  We welcome adult friends and neighbors for an opportunity to experience math, language and science, as you never have before! All of our teachers will be here to give lessons and answer questions related to the MMA curriculum.

Try your hand at balancing algebra and using test tube to do long division in a way that will blow your mind. See the transition of the Montessori math materials from preschool through the junior high level and learn about how our beads actually help us understand the square root of numbers! Learn about snake game and how it makes learning negative numbers fun and how we use a checkerboard  to teach multiplication!

Watch the progression of the Montessori grammar materials; from common and proper nouns to prepositional phrases. Discover the meaning of etymology and see how it can actually be fun! See why our children LOVE to learn! Participate in hands-on science and social studies lessons that will solidify your understanding of microorganisms, invertebrates, the rock-cycle, electricity and more!

This evening will be an open house event from 6:30-8:30 but we suggest coming early because we know, that just like your children, you won’t want to leave when it’s over. Remember this is an adult-only night for current and future Maria Montessori Academy parents and other adult community members.

We look forward to sharing our passion for education with you and we know that you’ll learn something new!

Take Home Folders

Today your student should have returned home with a take home folder.  Included is a letter, reading log, and information to access IXL.  IXL is an online math program that covers skills students learn in each grade level.  I will be creating a blog page which will list weekly IXL homework assignments based on ability/grade level.  If you have time tonight, help your child log on and practice lesson A.1 according to their grade level.  I do realize that all children are at different ability levels in multiple areas and I will be working a system to insure that time is not wasted and that progress is in place.  At times, I may have students working on multiple grade levels in order to fill in any holes.  This applies especially to younger students who are progressing quickly.  I first want to make certain everyone is able to log on and understand how to get started.  Please let me know via email if you have any troubles.

Also, please work to complete the reading log with your child.  November home projects are now in full swing.  I will create an easy access page to follow the monthly topics.  I was optimistic that I would have this all in place today.

Don’t forget next Wednesday the 12th we have Get down and dirty with Montessori Materials night.
