Parent Teacher Conference

The Parent Teacher Conference sign up sheet can be found here.  In order to be mindful of others, if you feel that you may need more than 20 minutes for our conference, please feel free to sign up for an additional time slot.  Please also be aware, Ms. Chelsea will not be attending conferences on Friday, February 17th.  If you are wishing to visit with us both, please select a time on either Wednesday or Thursday.  Students are invited to attend.  Please note, I may wish to visit without you child present for a portion of our conference.  I look forward to visiting with each of you and celebrating your amazing children.  If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to email me.

School will be released at 1:00 p.m. on February 15th, 16th, and 17th.  There will be no school on Monday, February 20th.

Busy Month

I have a few important key reminders regarding the next couple of weeks.  In the past, I have invited parents during the month of December for a holiday class program.  As many of you may have remembered, we did the fun readers theaters last year.  Since we have the school Winter Choir Concert on Thursday, December 8th, Treehouse Museum field trip on December 13th (permission slips are coming home Monday), and the International Festival on December 19th and 20th (our class presents the 20th, starting at 12:30 p.m.), we have decided to have a class program at a later date.

Please remember that International Festival home projects are due the 15th.  We have already had several students present and their hard work is amazing!  Thank you for supporting your children with this important event.

During the next several weeks our cultural focus will be on the area of history.  Level 1 students are learning to tell time.  Level 2 students are studying our Solar System and creating a booklet. Level 3 students are creating a booklet of research based on the time line of life.  They are really enjoying seeing the evidence of living things that no longer exist on our planet.

Your continued support with reading at home is greatly encouraged.  Don’t forgot to use Myon at home, especially for home project research.  Also, although students do not have formal assignments on IXL for homework, I strongly encourage the use, especially over our long breaks.

As always, if you have questions, concerns, or celebrations, please send me an email at my school email bherrera@mariamontessoriacademy.org

Count Down!

I am so excited to see everyone in just a few short days!  Reminder, all first graders and new second and third grade students will attend Student Orientation this Friday, August 12th, from 1:00-1:45 p.m.  When students arrive for orientation on Friday, I will be standing outside of the school with my assistant, Ms. Lindsey, holding a sign with our names.   We ask that parents drop their students off with us and meet back with your child when we come out together at 1:45 p.m.  We will wait until we have all new students with us before we enter the building.  If you know that your child will not be attending, please send me a quick email.  Student orientation is a time for students to learn the route to their locker, know the location of their classroom, meet new classmates, etc.  Please know that we will support your child through this new transition during the first few days of school.  Monday morning my assistant will be outside again, with a sign, for any students who need support finding their lockers and the classroom.  We ask that parents not come into the school with students during the first six weeks of school.  Creating independence is a key piece of what we refer to as normalization in the Montessori philosophy.  If you are a new family to our school or would like a refresher on key terms and philosophy within our school, I would recommend attending Parent Orientation or what we like to call Montessori 101 on Back to School Night starting in the gym at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 18th.  Our open house portion of Back to School Night starts at 7:00 p.m. and will concluded at 8:00 p.m. This is open to all families and is a great time to come visit your child’s classroom, sign up for volunteering, fill out a student information sheet, etc.  In the elementary age group we ask for this to be an adult only event.  If you have questions or concerns, please send me a quick email.

If you are interested in volunteering as our room parent, please send me a quick email.

Dress Code

I hope you have had a chance to visit the recent dress code reminder Ms. Stephanie recently sent out to all families.  The issues we are noticing in the classroom are holes in pants, not wearing inside shoes, and wearing leggings as pants.  I wanted to let you know that I will need to be more mindful in enforcing the dress code in our classroom.  I ask for your support and please double check your students clothing before they leave the house.  It takes time away from instruction when I must stop and make phones calls and fill out paperwork. I appreciate your understanding and support.  If you do happen to have questions or concerns regarding dress code, please feel free to email me.

Parent Teacher Conference

Conferences will be February 9th, 10th, and 11th.  Please sign up here. Remember these are early out days at 1:00 p.m.  There will be no school on Friday, February 12th or Monday, February 15th. .  If your child shares time in another teachers classroom, please sign up with both teachers at the same time and we will meet altogether.  Also, if you foresee you need more than 20 minutes, please feel free to sign up for two time slots.  I look forward to visiting with you.
