Volunteers

Hi,

As you know, we have our field trip, to the Treehouse Museum, coming up on Thursday, November 30th.  This is the week we return from Thanksgiving break.  We then have another field trip, to the Ogden Nature Center, the following Thursday, December 7th.  I would like to arrange a wejoin for carpooling.  If you are willing to help provide rides, please send me an email with which field trip or field trips you are willing to provide rides and how many available seats.  Please note, Ogden Nature Center does not allow for any siblings to attend field trips.

I am also looking for volunteers who would like to come in and read with students during the morning hours Monday-Thursday.  I do have flexibility if it is something that cannot happen every week.  We usually enjoy reading volunteers from about 9:15 a.m.-11:15 a.m., so anytime that works for you, within that window of time, is welcomed.  I am also needing someone that has time on Thursday afternoons to help with spelling tests.  This would need to be a set time.  Please send me an email if any of these opportunities interest you.

If you are looking for an opportunity to provide service hours for the classroom, but unable to come during class time, I am looking for a family to help with laundry.  We have our classroom towels that I would like to send home with a student on Friday and have them returned on Monday mornings.  It would be a small bag with about a dozen dish towels.

Thank you so much for your willingness to help support our classroom.

Thankful Journals

This month the students have been working on creating their “Thankful Journals”.  We have spent time recognizing and celebrating the amazing people, experiences, and things we have in each of our lives.  Students enjoy sharing their writing with one another and reflecting on all there is to be grateful for in our lives.  I encourage you to continue this dialogue, in your home, as we move throughout the month.

I want to express my gratitude for each of your children.  They teach me so much each and everyday.  I feel so fortunate that I get to spend my day with them, watching them grow and learn.  Thank you for sharing them with me.

Original Works

Today our Original Works fundraiser order forms were sent home.  This is a fundraiser that goes directly into our classroom and helps support supplemental materials for our lessons.  This year our class worked on creating self-portraits (some students chose to do their own idea), because what is more adorable than seeing a self-portrait your child created?  These portraits can be made into unique gifts for the holidays.  All orders will be delivered to the school on December 1st.  Ordering instructions can be found on the front page.  If you have questions, please let me know via email.

Thank You

I wanted to thank everyone for our first round of conferences.  I enjoyed sitting with each of you and celebrating the amazing work that is happening each day within our classroom.  I feel fortunate that I get to spend my day with these incredible children.  It was wonderful getting to know our new families better and reflecting on the growth with our returning students.

I hope everyone had a nice break.  The students have returned ready to work.  I see students challenging themselves in new and exciting ways.   We are working hard on the first 3 habits: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, and put first things first.   They are working on growth mindset and will be completing their weekly reflections on Friday.

I sent home Roaring Reader folders yesterday.   Please remember to take a few minutes each night to complete the reading assignment with your child.  Reading every night for at least 20 minutes makes a huge differences in your child’s growth and potential.  We only have a few days left for the month of October, please help support your child in completing their home project.

This week is our Red Ribbon Week.  Yesterday, we had a wonderful guest speaker talk about how we can be our own hero.  We are reflecting on making good choices for ourselves and looking for opportunities to stretch ourselves in new ways.  This week is a great opportunity to talk with your child about what being a superhero to themselves and others is and the choices we make each and everyday.

Gary Hogg

Yesterday we had a fun day working with local author, Gary Hogg.  He visits our school each year and gives fantastic workshops.  He helps the students to find their “authors voice” within their own writing.  He has many wonderful books for sale.  If you are interested in purchasing books, please fill out the order form your child brought home and return it tomorrow.
