Thank You

I want to thank everyone for your help with our field trip today.  I appreciate all your support with rides and chaperones.  We ended up having beautiful weather and lots of mud.  We made recycled paper that will be sent home once it dries.  We did lots of fun activities relating to our botany studies.

Our next field trip will be Friday, April 20th.  We will be celebrating Earth Day at the Ogden Botanical Gardens.  I would like to invite you to come participate with your child.  We will be doing some Earth Day activities, botany studies, and cleaning the parkway.  We will finish our time at the playground for some fun and lunch.  The 20th is an early out day, so we will meet at the parkway and leave from the parkway.  We will not be in the classroom this day.  I will send home reminder letters, with all the details, later this week.

Last Few Days of 2017

It is hard to believe we only have a few days left before we enter 2018.

I first want to thank everyone for another amazing field trip.  It was so much fun and I really enjoyed being outside with the students.  As you may have seen and heard, our playground is gone and we are adjusting to some changes while the new building is being constructed.  Our outdoor space and time is more limited, so I teased with the students that they have homework, which requires them to go outside and play.  As many of you are aware, I enjoy taking the students outside in the morning for fresh air and physical movement, this is something that has become more challenging with the recent construction.  I feel strongly that time outside engaging with nature is something many children are lacking in their development.  I would like to encourage you to find more opportunities for your children to be outside, working on their gross motor skills and observing the world around them.  This is a big reason why I love our visits to the Ogden Nature Center.

The students did complete their weekly reflections, I forgot to hand them back this afternoon.  I will send them on Monday.

Home projects for the International Festival are due Thursday morning.  If you have questions or concerns, please let me know.

Don’t Forget Our Field Trip Tomorrow

Please make certain your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.  We will be spending time outside.  We will meet our rides at North Shore parking lot at 11:50 a.m.  If your child needs a ride, please sign up here.  Reminder that siblings are not allowed on field trips at Ogden Nature Center and that all chaperones/ parents are $3.00.  I appreciate our drivers and chaperones and the support you offer in order to make these opportunities come alive.

Ogden Nature Center and Parents Attending

I forgot to mention in my last post regarding the Ogden Nature Center’s policy on parent involvement for field trips.  These are a few important bullet points they would like for you to be aware of:

  • If you have any additional adults who want to attend, the cost will be $3.00 per adult. Please note that memberships of any kind are not accepted as payment for chaperone fees. (You will pay this when we arrive).
  • Inform chaperones that all other children, including infants, should be left at home. If siblings are brought on the trip, that chaperone will not be allowed to follow along with the school group and the parent will be responsible for paying general admission rates.

Please know that your support is welcomed and we love having our parents involved with our field experiences.

Thank you for a wonderful field trip!

I want to thank everyone for their help with our field trip today.  We couldn’t have done it without all your support.  It was so much fun and the kids really seemed to enjoy themselves.

Next Thursday we have our field trip to the Ogden Nature Center.  Below I have included the cover letter.  We will be leaving the North Shore Parking Lot at 11:50 a.m. and meeting in the main parking lot of the Nature Center at 12:15 p.m.  We will leave the Ogden Nature Center at 2:40 p.m. from the main parking lot and carpools will arrive back at North Shore close to 3:00 p.m.  If you need a ride, please sign up here. Volunteers

Hi,

As you know, we have our field trip, to the Treehouse Museum, coming up on Thursday, November 30th.  This is the week we return from Thanksgiving break.  We then have another field trip, to the Ogden Nature Center, the following Thursday, December 7th.  I would like to arrange a wejoin for carpooling.  If you are willing to help provide rides, please send me an email with which field trip or field trips you are willing to provide rides and how many available seats.  Please note, Ogden Nature Center does not allow for any siblings to attend field trips.

I am also looking for volunteers who would like to come in and read with students during the morning hours Monday-Thursday.  I do have flexibility if it is something that cannot happen every week.  We usually enjoy reading volunteers from about 9:15 a.m.-11:15 a.m., so anytime that works for you, within that window of time, is welcomed.  I am also needing someone that has time on Thursday afternoons to help with spelling tests.  This would need to be a set time.  Please send me an email if any of these opportunities interest you.

If you are looking for an opportunity to provide service hours for the classroom, but unable to come during class time, I am looking for a family to help with laundry.  We have our classroom towels that I would like to send home with a student on Friday and have them returned on Monday mornings.  It would be a small bag with about a dozen dish towels.

Thank you so much for your willingness to help support our classroom.

Field Trip Permission Slips

Today your child was sent home with a yellow permission slip.  Only the front page needs to be initialed, signed and returned.  The other copies are for your reference.  I will send the information digitally closer to each field trip date.  Please mark your calendars and be aware of the need for transportation support.  I ask that these be returned by this Thursday, November 9th.  If you have questions, please feel free to email me.

Zoo Field Trip

Important!  Please Read!

Wednesday is our Hogle Zoo field trip.  If you are riding with a certified driver, please meet at the school just before 8:00 a.m. in the North Shore parking lot.  We would like to leave the school at 8:00 a.m. We have a few opening for rides found here.  If you are arranging your own rides, please arrive at the Hogle Zoo North Parking Lot by 9:15 a.m.  This is across the street from the main zoo entrance.  We will gather in this parking lot, as a group, and then cross the street together and enter the zoo as a group.  If your child is not attending, please let me know, so we are not waiting for their arrival.  Please be mindful that additional chaperones and siblings will be responsible for their own admission.  The zoo has a pretty strict chaperone policy and I will provide that information to you once we arrive on Wednesday morning.  I will send home a letter tomorrow afternoon outlining a few keys points about our field trip.  The weather looks to be a little rainy, but this actually is when some of the best animal observation is possible.  Please make certain your child is prepared for the weather.  We will be leaving the zoo by 1:30, so students who are riding with certified drivers will be back to school in time for end of day dismissal.
