7th & 8th Farm Overnight Field Trip

As our farm field trip is approaching we are looking for some help with chaperoning, certified drivers, and donations. The overnight trip will be held on May 11th and 12th. Students will arrive at 9 am on the 11th, and depart at 2 pm on the 12th.

Certified drivers willing to drive for either day, please email Jessica at jatwood@mariamontessoriacademy.org to be added to the wejoin. In the email please include how many students you will be able to drive.

We are planning a overnight field experience to Holmgren Historic Farm on May 11-12 for all 7th and 8th grade students (permissions slips to shortly be sent out). We need to have several parents accompany us as a chaperones either for the day(s) and/or to spend the night. The link provided provides you a place to sign up. Before you commit to chaperone, we need you to take a minute to review the following information: As a chaperone you will be overseeing student behavior and committing to ensure students are engaged in learning and making choices that are safe and respectful. In order to do this chaperones will be assigned a group for rotations and will ensure that group members do not wander off or disregard Farm rules of behavior. We want to set a good example for students, so please engage with your group and in all of the days’ and evening’s activities. In addition to these responsibilities, we want you to learn much and enjoy yourself. Please sign up HERE.

We are in need of some food donations to make this trip a success. For a list of the items needed, and to sign up click HERE.

Freshman Trip Final Meeting

We are excited for this meeting and the arrival of our first annual Freshman Field Trip.  Your teens have looked forward to, worked hard, and anticipated this field trip for some time. North Ogden Gardens

Each Year the students at Maria Montessori Academy Junior High help prepare the North Ogden Community Gardens by participating in their spring cleanup and garden box preparation. We will examine concepts in Agriculture, use garden tools to clean up old garden plots and prepare them by replenishing top soil. We will learn to communicate concisely in accomplishing our tasks and we will identify the relationship and impact of agriculture on the family and consumer.

Your students should be bringing their permission slip home today, for our trip to the gardens on Friday, April 22nd. We will be walking as a class to the Gardens. Permission forms are due back on April 20th.

If your students needs another permission slip they may print one here: North Ogden Garden Permission Forms

Spelling Bee

This is our second year participating in the Great American SpellCheck! Here’s how it works: your child studies grade-specific word lists and are tested in their classrooms. The three students who spell the most words correctly from each class will then move on to represent their class in the school wide spelling bees! Your student needs your help in the following ways:

April 11th – April 17th: Encourage your students to practice, practice, practice!

April 18th & April 19th: Spell Check Tests! These tests will be done in the classroom to determine the top three spellers from each room.

Wednesday April 20th: Teachers will send home with each participating student the student’s graded tests and an invitation for the finals. The top three students will be chosen from each classroom to participate in the school-wide spelling bee.

Friday April 22nd: School-wide spelling bees will take place in the gymnasium!

  •  LE- 9-10am
  •  UE- 11-12pm
  •  Junior High-12-1pm

I hope that you share our excitement about our school’s participation in the Great American SpellCheck. Together we can encourage strong spelling skills and build a fantastic community! Please be sure to ask questions if you have them.

Server Problems

I apologize for all the updated blog post emails you are getting. Over Spring Break we had issues with our server and our blog program. Due to this some posts were deleted and resent out. These problems should be corrected by the end of the day today. If you have any confusion or questions about events that are happening at the Jr. High please email me at jatwood@mariamontessoriacademy.org.

Talent Show

The Jr. High is hosting the upcoming talent show on April 13th from 6:00-7:30 pm. We would like to invite everyone to attend this great fundraising event and to celebrate the talents of our students.

8th grade students will be participating in a silent dessert auction. Students will need to bring a dessert in a container that will not be returned on April 13th either during the school day, or before 5:30 pm. Each donated dessert should include a list of ingredients (for allergy purposes) and be properly enclosed for sanitation.

Volunteer Help Needed

We are in need of parent volunteers for our 7th & 8th grade Farm overnight trip. The trip will be held on May 11th & 12th. Students will be dropped off at 9 am on the 11th, and picked up at 2 pm on the 12th. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to come and share some of their talents in a rotation. Also, we are in need of parents to stay the night. If you are willing to help make this experience happen for our students please email Mr. Rob or Ms. Jessica.
