Field Trip Sign Up

Our field trip is quickly approaching. Please remember to sign up or indicate that you will be providing a ride for your child.  I currently have a few openings with parents who are willing to help drive your child.  You can find the sign up sheet here.  Thank you for doing this as soon as possible.

Water Bottles

Hi,

As you are aware from our school newsletter, we are having bathroom issues within the school.  Students are now logged in and out of the classroom each time they need to leave the classroom.  As you can imagine, this can be time consuming.  In order to ease some of the burden, we are doing our best to avoid having students go to the water fountain and rely on using their water bottles.  If your student does not have a water bottle at school, please help support us by providing one.  Even a plastic cup will work, since we have a sink within our classroom.  Thank you for your support.  If you have questions or concerns, please let me know.

Gala Basket Donations (Message from MAPA)

Parents, MAPA is in need of assistance for the classroom Gala baskets. We would ask that instead of donating items this year you donate money to MAPA and some of the volunteers will purchase everything for the baskets. We feel that this may alleviate any stress that providing items for the baskets may cause. We would ask you to be as generous as you can with your donation. We also ask that funds be donated by Thursday March 7th.
Thanks!!!

Field Trip Sign Up

I have a couple parents who are willing to help carpool for our upcoming field trip.  If you need a ride for your student, please sign up asap, seats are very limited at this time.  If you are providing your own ride for your student, please also sign up, so I have everyone’s rides accounted for prior to the field trip day.  Please sign up on our field trip sheet found here.

If you would like to help carpool and have not sent me an email, please let me know and I will add your name to the form.  We appreciate everyone’s support with making these experiences come alive.

If you have questions or concerns, please let me know.  I will send home hard copies of the field trip form today and you also have access via my blog from a previous post which is found here.

Reminder of our next field trip

I just wanted to remind you to calendar our next field trip.  The cover letter information is below.  If you are willing and interested in carpooling students for this field experience, please send me an email.  We would need to meet our rides for the field trip about 12:20 p.m. that day in the North Shore parking lot.  I would like to start arranging rides by the end of next week.

Hi,

We are currently in need of some dish soap.  If you would be willing to provide some, would you please send me an email.  We could use some asap.

Also, if you would like to provide items for card making with our mentor classroom, we would appreciate it.  We could use specialty paper, stickers, doilies, ribbon, etc.  You may send these with your student over the next several days.  We will be using the materials on the 13th.

Thank you for your support

Valentines

Hi,

I wanted to let you know that your child is invited to share Valentine cards with their classmates on, Thursday, February 14th.  We currently have 25 students within our classroom, so if your child would like to provide 24 cards they may choose to do so.  We will not label who they are to, but please have them label who they are from.  This is not a requirement and is purely optional.  Any treats that are included with cards will be sent home and not available to eat within the classroom.  Students are also invited to provide a decorated bag or box to collect their cards.  If you have questions or concerns, please let me know.

Parent Teacher Conference

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held February 13th, 14th, 15th.  These will be early out days for students.  You can find sign up times on our school Track It Forward.  The link can be found here. This will be a student led conference, so they should be present. I look forward to visiting with you and celebrating your student’s progress.  .

Spelling Bee and Our New School Wide Unit of Study

Connections January 15th– February 22nd

Spelling Bee February 26th

The theme CONNECTIONS is what your child will be studying during our fourth thematic unit.  During this time, we will be focusing on growth, division, reunion, and industrialization in the Americas mainly during the 1800s but not limited to this time period.

During this theme our school will celebrate a Spelling Bee week which will include class spelling bees, lower and upper el spelling bees, and a school wide spelling bee. All students are encouraged to participate in the spelling bee that will be held in their classroom. We want all students to work with the words used in the spelling bee to help build their vocabulary and spelling knowledge.

However, if your child is not comfortable participating in this event, they can also participate in other ways. If your child decides not to take part in their classroom bee, they will need to use the spelling bee words in another way to share with their classmates. Some of these ways include but are not limited to writing a story using as many of the spelling bee words as possible, creating multiple funny sentences using the words, create a board game using the words, create a game involving good, physical activity with the words, create a classroom scavenger hunt with the words.

When words are involved, the possibilities are endless!

Scripps National Spelling Bee lists were sent home today.  Please check with your student, you will need these words in hard copy form, since we are not authorized to post these words digitally.
