The count down begins.

The kids are starting to count down the days until the end of the year.  We still have our normal work cycle for the next few weeks, with a few exceptions. The 3rd grade party is tomorrow afternoon.  If you signed up to provide something, please don’t forget to send it.  Students are invited to bring their own game to play in addition to others that will be available.   May 8th is our evacuation drill.  This is when we will be practicing picking up your children.  May 14th will be our field trip.  I will send further dates for end of year activities as they are confirmed.

Ask your child about our recent rice experiment.   It is pretty powerful.

Celebration!

Our third graders have been shadowing this past week in Ms, Shanan’s class.  They are having so much fun and learning about what is in store for next year.  We will finish with the third grade shadowing this week.  Their party is on Monday the 5th.  Please see the We Join In link on the right to sign up to help.

Ms. Brec is getting married on May 6th in California.   She is having a small wedding on the beach and is saddened that she will not be able to celebrate with all her students.  We are having a small informal shower in the library on Thursday at 3:30 and you are welcome to bring your student by if you wish.  Please drop me a note if you will be stopping by.  She will be out of the classroom the week of the 5th.

Important reminder for May 8th and our full evacuation drill.  Please mark your calendars.  An email was recently sent out explaining the drill.

Don’t forget about home projects.  We are nearing the end of the month and several students have not yet presented their projects.

We hope to be attending an all day field trip on May 14th.  I am still awaiting approval, but please mark your calendars.  Details will soon follow.

Moving Forward

Our third graders are finishing up their SAGE math test today!  We have planned their end of year party for the afternoon Monday, May 5th.  If you are available to come help with the level 3 party, we welcome you, please let me know.  The level 3’s will begin shadowing in the upper el classrooms starting tomorrow.  Each student has an assigned day that they will spend in the upper el classroom becoming familiarized with what is ahead for them.  This is an exciting time as we start to explore their futures in upper el.

Warm Weather!

It has been so nice this week with the nice warm weather.  Too bad it wasn’t this warm during our break last week.  The students have wanted to have lunch outside and we have really enjoyed the opportunity.  If the weather is nice we will continue to have lunch outside more.  You may want to consider that we will be eating outside when you are planning lunches.  Items that do not need to be heated are idea, but students are still able to heat and carry out if needed.

We have the opportunity for school pictures on this Tuesday the 15th.  Pictures packets were sent home this week.  Several students declined taking one with them.  They were a bit confused as to why there were school pictures again.  I don’t have that answer, but know we have more packets if you need one.

The third graders completed the first two tests for SAGE this week!  We were the first group in the school to use this new test and the students did great working with us during this new learning curve.  We will complete our test this coming Wednesday the 16th.  If you have any further questions or concerns about SAGE, please contact me personally.

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the warm weather!

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break.  Monday morning third grade have their first session of SAGE testing.  Their next testing day is this Thursday.  Friday will be early out for Professional Development.  I look forward to seeing your children in the morning!

3rd Grade Essay Test

This is just a reminder for our level 3’s.  We will be having our SAGE essay test Monday morning, April 7th.  Please make certain your student is ready by having a good night sleep and a breakfast with protein.  Students are welcome to bring gum to chew on while testing and please make certain they have a water bottle.  Snacks will be provided.  Enjoy your Spring Break!

Frozen Movie Night

This Friday the sixth grade will be hosting a fundraiser movie night.  The cost is $3 and the movie is Frozen.   Children may be dropped off from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.  If you are bringing a non-student to watch the movie an adult must be present.  Popcorn will be provided.  Blankets, pillows and comfortable clothes are encouraged.!

Home projects are due this week!  Remember next week is Spring Break.

Spring

Spring is almost here!  In celebration of Spring and our level 1 bird unit, we will be having a special “Birds of the World” presentation Thursday afternoon.  This is done by the same group who does “Scales and Tales”.  I am sure it will be a big hit!

Please come out and support our school by attending the Spring Gala on Saturday.  Fliers were sent home this past week with your children.  You should have also received a school email with the same information.  This is our big school fundraiser for the year and your support is needed.  It is certain to be a fun night for a great cause.

I hope you have enjoyed your long weekend with your children.  Please remember to be working on home projects.  We have only seen a few so far this month.  Please remember to have your level 3’s type their projects this month, It is great practice for our SAGE test.  We only have two weeks before the end of the month and these are required assignments.  Please help your student understand their responsibility in completing this assignment.
