Ogden Electric Parade

November 24th is the annual Ogden Electric Lights Parade. Our school will be represented and the marketing committee has come up with a float that will represent MMA.

We are looking for students from MMA who would like to be part of our parade! The meeting place will be in front of the Ogden Temple. The parade starts promptly at 5:30pm. The floats will be lined up at 5pm.

Students 12 years and younger must ride in the trailer or truck. If you are over the age of 12 then you may walk next to the float. Students who ride or walk will be carrying white peace signs or holding tea lights.

If your child would like to be a part of the parade then we will have waivers to sign in front of the temple.

The parade starts on 22nd and Washington and then ends at 27th. My advice would be for our MMA parents whose child(ren) are in the parade park towards the end of the parade so when we are done you can find your child.

We have some, but if your child would like to wear glow necklaces and bracelets during the parade we highly suggest the more the better! (It is a light parade!) the glow wear is also our symbol to honor Troy and Molly Cox.

If you have any questions you can ask Autumn in the office or me- Ms. Kaley. I will do my best to answer anything I know 🙂

Book Feast

Tomorrow is our annual class book feast. For those of you new to our class this year, it is much like a read-a-thon.  We will be celebrating our love of books with our mentor class.  Students may bring books from home, but I would suggest having them labeled.  They may also bring a small pillow or blanket, but it must fit into their lockers.  We will be starting our book feast at 10:30 a.m. and will end our book feast by enjoying lunch with our mentor class.

Please remember our Cultural Festival will start tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. and finish at 3:00 p.m.  Please remember to have your child take home their projects at the end of the festival.

Pizza Lunchables

Families, I am coming to you to ask for some help.  This year we have a very popular lunch item within our classroom, Pizza Lunchables.  Unfortunately, I am asking, okay, begging for them not to be sent to school.  The mess they are making within the classroom has become beyond problematic.  Despite individual lessons, it has not improved.  The kids are squeezing the sauce everywhere and cheese sprinkles are getting smashed into everything.  I know from a parent perspective we sometimes don’t realize the lunch choices we support at home, but sometimes taking a moment to reflect if your child is independent with the lunch they are bringing, is this something they can prepare on their own, clean up on their own, and finish eating in a timely manner.  Our lunch time is 30 minutes.  Thank you for your mindfulness and support.

Original Works Sent Home Today

Original Works was sent home today.  The following document was included on the back of the order form.  You can even order using artwork that your child has created outside of school.  This is a fundraiser that helps support our very own classroom.  I use the money to buy materials and supplies for work and lessons within our class.  If you have questions, feel free to reach out to Rachel Bush, a fabulous volunteer, who puts this fundraiser together.  Her email can be found at the bottom of this document.

Original Works Q & A:

What is Original Works?

Turn your child’s art into keepsakes (mugs, tote bags, pot holders, pillowcases, keychains, night lights, etc.). This fundraiser benefits your child’s classroom directly.

What if my child didn’t do or complete their art?

Complete it now! Art needs to be on plain 8.5”x11” paper (cardstock is best for durability). No 3-D art (glitter, pipe cleaners, etc.) and no copyrighted art. Must be original! Whatever you turn in with your payment will be considered complete.

What if my child made more than one piece of art?

You need one order form per piece of art. The order form needs to be filled out and taped to the back of your child’s art.

What if I have a child who wants to participate and isn’t at MMA?

Anyone can submit art. All you need is an order form and to designate which teacher you want to benefit!

How do I pay?

Write a check made to Original Works and attach it to the order form or write your credit card number on order form.

When are orders due?

Art, order forms, and payment must be returned to the front office by October 17th.

What needs to be on the art?

Your child’s name, teacher’s name, and a T designating the top of art must be written on the back of each piece of art.

When will keepsakes arrive?

Friday, November 30th!

Store

I apologize for neglecting to inform you about store before I was left for the Redwoods field trip.  During the month of May, students are able to earn classroom currency.  This helps to reinforce their knowledge of money and utilize it in a practical life application within the classroom.  On Thursday, May 24th, students will have their store day.  Each student will open their own business and will also be able to shop other stores using their classroom currency.  Students may choose to create their own business, but should not go to an actual store to purchase things to sell.  Some ideas from the past: a students who collects rocks opened a rock shop, a child who enjoys drawing opened an art store, a child who loves writing created books, magic tricks, and so much more.  I have had students make slime, friendship bracelets, origami, play dough, sculptures, etc.  Students may also sell old/ unwanted items,  if the value is more than a dollar, please send a note signed that they have permission to sell the items.  Also, I will allow for students to sell trinkets, such as birthday party favors and such, again, only if you have these items in excess at home, they should not be purchased for the sake of store.  If you have questions, please feel free to email me.
