Why I Volunteer

If you don’t know me, I’m Ashley Carlson, and I’m the secretary for MAPA.  I grew up a painfully shy child, and am a rather introverted adult, so as you might imagine volunteering was initially something that terrified me.  What I’ve gained by doing so has been so great for me and my children.  I’ve had the opportunity to get to know many of the children that my kids see on a daily basis.  I’ve been able to meet some fabulous parents, administrators and teachers and get to know them much better.  And hopefully I’ve been able to be a positive influence in our school community.

As I sat in our first MAPA meeting of the year, I found myself surprised at the many ways available to shape the experiences our children get to have at Maria Montessori Academy.  There are so many ways to have an impact and get those volunteer hours in!  The more I learn, the more convenient it gets.  There is literally a place for every family at this school.  If you have questions about ways you can help that work with your families busy schedule, or questions about who can help, please come to Back To School night and visit us at the MAPA table.

There are efforts being made to help with Hurricane Relief.  There are ways to get involved with Recycling, the School Gala, Fundraising, Lego League, Book Fair, Room Parents, etc. etc.  So please come out to the school Thursday night, 9/7 starting at 6:00 pm.  We can’t wait to see you!

We all know the saying it takes a village, so come, be a part of our village!
