Family Skate Night

Please come and have a “rolling” good time!

Maria Mont 1

We are off to a great start for the year with our September meetings.  Thank you to all you lovely parents who took the time to come out.  We love your input and ideas! Our next meeting will be held October 6 at 8:45 am.  For those of you who weren’t able to make it out in September, here’s a brief run down of what went down.

Last years MAPA donation to the school is going to be used to equip the new Junior High with items that were not in the budget such as bleachers and a sound system for the gymnasium.

A big thank you to all who were willing to chair a committee this year!  We are still in need of several room parents.  If you are interested please check with Rosie Alexander or your students teacher.

The original works fund raiser is in full swing.  Students are submitting their works this week, and ordering information will be sent out to the parents in the future.  This fundraiser goes directly to each students classroom and your students teacher gets to use the funds for classroom needs.  (Miss Rachael will need help in December sorting all the art.  It’s a great way to get some volunteer hours in!)

Our first book fair of the year and Fall Festival will be coming up in October.  If you would like to volunteer to help or find out more please come to our next MAPA meeting.

Thank you for all the support that has been offered so far this year!

Fall Mapa meeting

Did you know that as a MMA parent you are already a member of our Parent Association? Please join MAPA this evening Thursday 9/21 at 7 pm for their Fall General Meeting. Come and learn all about upcoming events and see how you can earn your volunteer hours while helping our school.

Why I Volunteer

If you don’t know me, I’m Ashley Carlson, and I’m the secretary for MAPA.  I grew up a painfully shy child, and am a rather introverted adult, so as you might imagine volunteering was initially something that terrified me.  What I’ve gained by doing so has been so great for me and my children.  I’ve had the opportunity to get to know many of the children that my kids see on a daily basis.  I’ve been able to meet some fabulous parents, administrators and teachers and get to know them much better.  And hopefully I’ve been able to be a positive influence in our school community.

As I sat in our first MAPA meeting of the year, I found myself surprised at the many ways available to shape the experiences our children get to have at Maria Montessori Academy.  There are so many ways to have an impact and get those volunteer hours in!  The more I learn, the more convenient it gets.  There is literally a place for every family at this school.  If you have questions about ways you can help that work with your families busy schedule, or questions about who can help, please come to Back To School night and visit us at the MAPA table.

There are efforts being made to help with Hurricane Relief.  There are ways to get involved with Recycling, the School Gala, Fundraising, Lego League, Book Fair, Room Parents, etc. etc.  So please come out to the school Thursday night, 9/7 starting at 6:00 pm.  We can’t wait to see you!

We all know the saying it takes a village, so come, be a part of our village!
