Literacy Week!

Hello all!

This week is literacy week!  This year’s theme is “Finding Peace Through Reading” We are looking at a week chalk full of activities! Our schedule looks like this:

Tomorrow night is Literacy Night!  Come in and join us! Dress up as your favorite book character and enjoy the evening!

All week we will be doing book swaps.  Students can bring in gently used books that they are no longer interested in and swap them for a new book!

To encourage literacy at home and at school, students are encouraged to put the titles of books they have finished onto leaves and hang them in the hallway.

Friday will be our school wide read-a-thon.  Administration has asked for no pillows, blankets or stuffed animals to be brought in.

March at-a-glance:

3/14: Pi Day!  We will be working on Pi Based Activities all week – great talking point with your child!

3/15: Early Release (Professional Development)

3/17: St. Patrick’s Day

3/18: NO SCHOOL (Professional Development)

3/20: Field Trip to Lantern House.  I DO need drivers/Chaperones.  Please contact myself or Alisha: eventhair@yahoo.com

General Reminders

Hello,

As we head into spring and the weather starts getting nicer, please remember a few general things:

Lunches – FROM THE WEBSITE:

Please provide a nutritional lunch including juice or milk. Soda, caffeinated beverages, and candy are not permitted. Fast food is not to be brought to the school as a lunch substitute.

We encourage all students at our school to help reduce waste by bringing lunch in reusable containers. Please help us learn to keep our environment clean and healthy. Student lunches cannot be refrigerated at school, so please include an ice pack if the lunch is perishable. There are microwave ovens available for warming, but food should be already cooked and require less than two minutes heat time. In the case of a forgotten lunch, students will be allowed to call parents twice. After that, in interest of encouraging responsibility and independence, natural consequences will apply.

CLASSROOM RULES: please do not send your child with popcorn or red drinks/water additives like red KoolAide.  These make an enormous mess and stain our carpet. Please make sure your child is being sent with some sort of protein in addition to carbohydrates and sugar. A lack of protein at lunch often leads to the student crashing before the end of school which leads to behavioral issues and melt downs.

Please be aware that I will be out of the classroom Thursday and Friday as I will be attending a class for my certification.  Thank you for understanding.  I will have access to email both days, so please feel free to reach out to me through email if you have any questions or concerns.

I realized last week that my snack signups didn’t continue into the new year.  I apologize that it took me two months to figure that out.  The problem has been rectified and the new snack sign up is on track it forward.  Find it here: https://www.trackitforward.com/site/389525/events

Valentines Day

Excuse the two posts in one day, I forgot to discuss the Valentines party on Thursday.

It is not going to be a big to-do as we have specials on Thursday, but we will be passing out valentines and candy.  If your child chooses to participate, please make sure that every child is given a valentine – I have 26 children in my class, a list of names will be sent home tomorrow with your child.  Your child is welcome to make and decorate a box for their valentines!

Please remind your child that candy is not to be eaten at school and that any candy that has been given to them must be eaten at 1:00 AFTER they have left the school premises.

Any questions, please shoot me an email!

Greetings! Just a quick note to remind you that PTCs start tomorrow!

These are student led so please make sure you bring your child with you!

If you have not signed up please follow this link: https://www.trackitforward.com/site/389525/events

Wednesday through Thursday we have early release days, so please remember to pick up your child at 1 PM.  There also will be a bookfair happening, so make sure you stop by and check that out!

Thanks so much, and I look forward to seeing you all this week.

Thank you for talking to your student about grace and courtesy.  We had a MUCH better week last week and we are looking forward to a good week this week.  Our math review this week is on subtraction.  Please practice subtraction with your child for at least 15 minutes every night this week with your child.

Next week

Greetings,

Moving into next week, please be aware of the following:

The Chili Cook-Off is Tuesday from 5:30-7:00.  Our class would like to enter a pot of chili in the cook-off, but we can’t do it without your support.  Please sign up to bring something in here:
https://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/klwjn
We also would LOVE to have volunteers come in and help us cook.  If you are interested, please shoot me an email.

Friday we have our Fun Run.  Please log in to funrun.com to help support our school.  Proceeds from the run go to help fund field experiences for students.

We are out of loose leaf notebook paper and would love some donations for the classroom!

I need your support at home:
We have been having a lot of behavioral, disrespect, and defiance issues within the classroom.  Please remind your child what good grace and courtesy looks like.  At the beginning of the year, students created and signed the classroom rules which include things like respecting time, the environment, others, and themselves and following the golden rule.  Please remind them that they need to uphold the expectation they have set for themselves.  This week we will be resetting expectations and focusing on what the classroom should look and sound like, and I would appreciate you reinforcing this at home.

We also will be starting a “Math Review” day in addition to a “Math Challenge Day.”  This week, the focus is on addition. I would appreciate you working with your child for 10 minutes every night to reinforce this skill.  For some this might mean working on math fluency and math facts, for others this might mean working on mental math with addition, for others still this might mean working on addition word problems. If you need ideas or clarification please email me.

Thank you!
