Greetings!  We have been introducing some big in class projects that students will be working on for the coming weeks and as students will need to bring in some supplies, I wanted to get some information out to you:

4th Years

The fourth years are discussing immigration to Utah and have been assigned a project to create a poster board answering the following questions:

Where are you from? (if the student was born in Utah, I have asked them to dig deeper – where are their parents, grandparents, great grandparents from?  What brought them to Utah originally? So for example, My great grandparents immigrated to America from Europe, my grandmother is Pennsylvania Dutch but married my grandfather which brought her to Idaho where my parents stayed and I was born, and I have now immigrated to Utah for the wilderness and this job.)

What are some of your favorite foods? Tell us about them?

Describe an important person to you and your family?

What are some of your traditions?  What do you enjoy about that activity

How are you connected to Utah?  (were your  great great grandparents the first settlers?  Did your family come here because of the railroad? Etc.)

Students will need to look to you and your family for answers, pictures, and stories.  The answers to these questions, and any stories the students would like to share will be placed on a poster board along with the pictures of the students family, favorite foods, whatever they would like to represent.  This poster board is due February 5th.

5th Years

We are studying Ancient Egypt in class.  Today we discussed pyramids and they chose a pyramid to study.  Now they need to make a pyramid resembling the one they chose.  Pyramids can be built out of anything they choose: sugar cubes, brownies, playdough, legos, etc.  These materials will need to be brought into class so they can construct in class.  After constructing the pyramid they will be writing a report about their pyramid that includes the following items:

  • The title of the Pyramid
  • 5-10 facts about their pyramid
  • Where the pyramid is located (now and originally)
  • describing the interior of the pryamid
  • Who the pyramid was built for.

The pyramids are due February 7th
