Week of Oct. 13

Posted in Classroom, Field Trips | No Comments »

Hello!

It has been so great to be back and to be working with the kids again.  It was also great to meet and/or see you parents this past week!

I have been busy giving lessons!  I will continue to catch up on individual lessons and start level lessons this coming week.

Things to be discussing/doing with your child:

– Make sure they are brining home their spelling flash cards on Mondays.  I will do my best on my end to make sure they go home.

– Are they doing their red works (most important).  If not, what other areas were they working in.  Sometimes some blue works will need to be done.

– Have them read 20 mins a day.  Audiobooks and comics are good motivators for those who don’t like to read or have trouble reading.

-Practice their spelling words with them.  Can they say and spell their words?  Can they use their words in a sentence.  Can they alphabetize their words?  These are skills that help promote reading, comprehension, and testing skills.

-3rd grade parents: have your child be typing at home.  BBC typing program is free and is super fun.  Have them type any of our projects in programs such as Microsoft Word.  It will help get them used to their upcoming writing test in the spring.

This coming week (Week of Oct. 20th)

We are going to Black Island Farms on Thursday the 23rd.  I know some of you will be meeting us at Black Island Farms.  The rest of the students come to the school at normal time.  We will be leaving MMA at 8:50am via private vehicles.  Here are my drivers so far:

Drivers:

Sarah: Aiden, Bridger (willing to take, if ok with you Marian!)

Braydon: Alexis & Bryn

Kim: Reagan

Antoinette: Tanner, Logan (Ms. Jalee’s student), + 1 available seat

Michelle: Jaycee + 3 available seats

Austin: Brenna + 5 available seats (certified driver)

Annabelle: Tiffany

Darci: Amira

Jessica: Gabe

Steve: Stevie (undecided)

That is 19/20 of our students taken care of.  I could use a few more for driving, even if a grandparent would like to go.  Email me if you can drive.

If Asher and Ty would like to attend the field trip, please come into my room and sign their permission slips 🙂

*IMPORTANT: Most of class is being taken to the field trip by their own parent.  If a parent has room for other children and they ARE NOT A CERTIFIED driver by MMA, please make the arrangement for your child to go with one of these parents from our class.  Also, siblings ARE allowed to come to the field trips, you just have to pay for yourself and your other child to go.  Your child attending MMA has the priority to do the activities.  Your other child may not be able to do some of the activities because our field trips are for our MMA students.

Please pack a disposable lunch for your child

We will be departing Black Island Farms at 1:30pm

Black Island Farm’s website link is below in the last post.  If you can, donate $4.00 to cover this field trip cost.

This Friday, Oct 24th, we will be continuing our study on the 3 states of matter. We will be doing root beer floats as an example!  Kristy, if you still want to help, please email me.  Let me know if any of you can help bring Solo cups, plastic spoons, liters of root beer, and 2 large tubs of vanilla ice cream!

The Fall Festival carnival is this Friday Oct 24th from 4:30-7:30!  No masks, please.  I will see you there!

Please email our room mother Jaida Ryan if you would like to help with our classroom Halloween party!  jaidabrown@mail.weber.edu;

DoTerra:

I am happy to announce that we will be diffusing essential oils in our classroom!  I am a DoTerra oil user and have many different ones.  I will be diffusing scents like Citrus Bliss, Purify, Lemon, Wild Orange, On Guard, Peppermint, and Lavender to name a few.  Studies have been done and show that essential oils help students concentrate, focus, their emotions, and have raised test scores.  Oils like On Guard and Purify are natural detoxifiers of germs and bacteria.  If you too are a DoTerra user and would like to donate oils to our classroom it would be very much appreciated!  Ms. LaVonna and I are very excited to share the many benefits of DoTerra oils with our class.
