2018-2019 School Year Preparation

I hope you have all had a great summer, and have plans to make the most of the rest of the break.

In order to start the year off right, please read through this information with your child.

School Supplies

Please be sure to check the specific supplies for our classroom as each teacher requires something different.  You can find the supply list and guidelines for preparation.   Your child’s first homework assignment is the preparation of their school supplies.  Please help them come prepared for the first day by following the guidelines linked above.  If you choose to deliver prepared supplies (highly recommended) prior to the first day of school, please be sure to put your child’s name and my name (Ms. Amity) on the bag so they make it to the correct classroom.

If you have a sixth grade student, your child will need an additional, white, 2-inch 3-ring binder for their Expert Project. I will address this project in a separate post.

The school dress code can be found here .  Providing your child with appropriate options for school reduces the number of dress code reminders that we need to fill out allowing us to focus on education.  Please help Ms. Kari and I do our job effectively by ensuring your child adheres to the school dress code.  Girls: please remember leggings may only be worn under skirts, skorts or dresses (not alone).  Your child will need a pair of Indoor Shoes to wear while in the classroom and other lessons taking place in the building.

Pool Party

Join us for our annual pool party Tuesday, August 16 from 6-8pm at North Shore Aquatic Center across the street from the school.  You will have an opportunity to sign up to volunteer, reconnect with friends and chat with Ms. Kari and myself.

Sneak a Peak

You are invited to our Sneak A Peak event on Monday, August 20th from 1:30-3:30pm. On the half hour, beginning at 1:30pm, then again at 2pm, 2:30pm, and 3pm, we will review classroom expectations and answer general questions relating to the classroom.

Last Three Weeks

I can hardly believe we are already approaching summer at this breakneck speed.  It truly feels as if the school year has just begun.

We will continue working hard each day until the end of school.  It becomes increasingly difficult to keep student attention the closer to the end of the school year we get.  Please help your child remain engaged by maintaining a regular sleep schedule, meal schedule and arriving on time each day.

We will be taking our final SAGE exam Tuesday, May 8.

Rising 6th Year Students and Families 2018-2019

Next week your child will be receiving a packet introducing next year’s Expert Project. This year long research project begins this summer!  We are asking your child to spend some time this summer thinking about possible topics, reading about them and starting a bibliography of books  to refer back to in the fall when the final topic selection is made. The project culminates with an evening reception where children will present their project.

Students can choose any topic they have an interest in.  This year the 6th level students researched Bats, Gymnastics, African Savannah, Vikings, Baseball, Asthma, and Lego.  The range of ideas is limitless and your child has already brainstormed a list of ideas.

Please watch for the paperwork to come home and help your child keep track of them by purchasing (or using an existing) 2-inch, 3-ring binder.  Additional copies of the paperwork will not be provided, but can be printed directly from the blog through the Expert Project tab at the top of the page.

We will discuss this as a group in class, and again during parent teacher conference.

JA Biztown Wednesday, March 14

Good evening 5th grade families!  This Wednesday, March 14 is our 5th grade (and some 6th grade) field trip to JA City.  Your kids have been working hard writing business plans, filling out loan applications and preparing their checkbooks for this experience.

In order for our trip to run as smoothly as possible, please make sure you have signed up for a ride to Biztown for your child.  A link was sent out in an email this morning.

You are responsible for ensuring your child gets into the vehicle in which you have assigned them.  Please do not drop them off at North Shore and drive away without their driving knowing they have arrived. In order for all volunteers to arrive on time for their training, vehicles must depart from North Shore at 7:30.

If your student did not pre-order lunch from Chick-fil-A, they will need to pack a sack lunch that does not require heating.

Lastly, we will arrive back to school for regular end of day pick up.
