Thank you!

Thank you to those of you who were able to donate tissues to our classroom!  The students appreciate having something soft to use on their noses.

Thank you for supporting last week’s fun run!  I hear we raised nearly $12,000 for field experiences!  That number is phenomenal and we couldn’t have done it without your support.

Don’t forget – Next week is student led parent conferences.  Plan for early release at 1:00pm all three days of conferences – Wednesday, February 13-Friday, February 15.

Please sign up for a time that works for you AND your child.   They will be showing you the portfolio they have put together which will highlight the things they have been working on in class.  As stated in the weekly MMA newsletter, there will be no progress reports issued during February conferences.  Instead, your child’s progress toward mastery of key standards will be shown with work they have personally selected.

You can sign up for a conference time at this link.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday.

Please help your child choose clothing that meets the dress code.  Ms. Kari and I understand that many children receive gifts of new clothing, but we strive to follow dress code standards as closely as possible, and children in our class are held to this expectation.   In addition, please be sure your child is packing a healthy lunch and snack.  We encourage fruits and vegetables instead of overly sugary snacks.  An apple or cheese stick will provide your child with more sustained energy than chips or fruit snacks.  Please remember that candy is strictly forbidden.

As we come back to school in 2019,  please make a note of these important dates.

STARBASE – 6th grade students only

STARBASE is on Hill Air Force Base; we have a few plans to get your students on base.
Our first plan is to meet at The Aerospace Museum and STARBASE will send a Hill Air Force Base bus to come pick us up and transport us to and from STARBASE.  The information for this plan is located here. Roy-Gate-Base-Bus   Please do not be lateDrop off time is 9:00.  The bus cannot wait for late arrivals and we could lose this privilege.  Pick up time is 2:45-3:00.  You must pick up your child from STARBASE before picking up other children from MMA.
The second plan, if  Hill Air Force Base cannot come get us, is to have parents transport their child onto base.  In order for anyone to get onto base they need to provide some information.  All forms were due December 20.  If you did not fill out a form, it is your responsibility to make arrangements with another family who filled out the form.
These are the instructions for getting to the South Gate.  South-Gate-Contingency-Plan-18

Week of January 14 – STEM Week

  • 4th – STEM Challenge – This in class project will take place the week of January 7 and require a short write up at home.  We will do the bulk of the work, and write up in class, with the finishing touches to be completed at home.  The at home portion of the assignment will take approximately 30-60 minutes since we are doing the bulk of the work in class.  This will be due Monday, January 14.
  • 5th – Invention Convention – Shortly after Thanksgiving, your students were given a log book for this home project.  The details for this project are laid out in great detail within the log book.  This project is due, Monday, January 14.  If your student needs a new copy, you can download and print one by following this link:  Invention Convention Log Book
  • 6th – Mentor 4th grade students in their STEM challenge

We look forward to seeing your children back in class Thursday, January 3.

Sixth Grade – STARBASE – Highly Important

Dear Sixth Grade Families,
Our sixth grade students have the unique opportunity to attend STARBASE on Hill Air Force Base.  This is a wonderful STEM program offered to very few schools in Northern Utah.  The permission slip has already been sent home and returned to school by each family, thank you.  This is a five day field trip one day a week for five weeks.  The dates for this wonderful experience are:
STARBASE:
Monday January 7, 2019
Tuesday January 15, 2019
Wednesday January 23, 2019
Wednesday January 30, 2019
Wednesday February 6, 2019
It is your responsibility as parents to get your child to and from STARBASE on each of the dates listed above.  I encourage you to carpool with each other.  I would like permission from each family to send out a list of the sixth grade parents e-mail addresses to each of you so you can coordinate rides.  Please let me know as soon as possible if you do not want me to share your e-mail address with the other sixth grade families.
STARBASE is on Hill Air Force Base; we have a few plans to get your students on base.  Other schools hire a bus to get them to and from STARBASE.  A bus costs $500.00 a day so that is not an option for us.
Our first plan is to meet at The Aerospace Museum and STARBASE will send a Hill Air Force Base bus to come pick us up and transport us to and from STARBASE.  The information for this plan is located here. Roy-Gate-Base-Bus   One last thing, I can not press upon you enough not to be late dropping off or picking up. The use of the base bus is a courtesy that has been extended to STARBASE and we do not want to keep them waiting; especially if they have other routes.
The second plan, if  Hill Air Force Base cannot come get us, is to have parents transport their child onto base.  In order for anyone to get onto base they need to provide some information.  Please fill out this form with the appropriate information if you think there is any possibility you might drive to or from this field trip one of the days.  TRANSPORTATION-FOR-BASE-ACCESS-18  STARBASE needs this information by December 20th.  Please get this information to me (although the form states otherwise)  as soon as possible.
Once this information is turned over to security forces we will not be able to add any drivers.  If you think there is a small chance you may drive your child then please fill out this form.  These are the instructions for getting to the South Gate.  South-Gate-Contingency-Plan-18
If you have any questions please let me know.
Ms. Amity

6th Grade Redwoods Intent Due

Intent forms are available in the office.

Hogle Zoo Field Trip – Important Information

Our next field trip is right around the corner.

Next Wednesday, October 31, our class will be joining Ms. Kirsten’s class on a field trip to the zoo.

This field trip is unique in that non-school age siblings are able to attend and we typically get more parents than are required by the zoo.  Please understand that any number of parents beyond the 5:1 student to adult ratio are required to pay their own admission.  In order to make this as fair as possible, the first 5 chaperones who have already signed up, will receive free admission.    If you plan on bringing non-school age siblings, you are also required to pay admission.

A reminder to notify our room mom, Natalie,  if you are planning on driving your own child.  This way we have all students accounted for.  Please do not make alternate ride arrangements without communicating your plans with her.

Lastly, we will be abiding by MMA policy regarding field trips and dress code.  Please be sure you review this policy if you have any questions.
