A need for a coffee maker or water heater

Posted in Classroom | No Comments »

Hello!

The food truck as been coming, however, they sell Cup of Noodles.  It takes awhile to wait in our microwave line and then to heat them up, have them sit, and then eat them (I wish they didn’t sell them!)  I give them a little extra time to eat, but on most Wednesdays when they come 3-6 students buy them, so some students are having to wait.  If anyone has an extra coffee maker or hot water pitcher, we are in desperate need of something to heat water very quickly, so all our Cup of Noodles can be cooked and eaten.

Thanks!

Hope you are enjoying your long weekend!

Candy Orders!

A Sees Candy form went out this week.  Students have until this Friday to sell candy if they would like since Valentine’s Day is around the corner!  Please bring in all forms by Friday morning.

3rd Grade Writing Test

The 3rd grade writing test for our class will take place February 17th in the afternoon from 12:30-3.  We usually do a 3rd grade breakfast on a testing day, but since it is in the afternoon maybe something else can be thought of?  Any suggestions and help on that would be appreciated!

Planetarium

Our trip to The Clark Planetarium will be February 18th.  We will be taking the Frontrunner to SLC for this field trip. We will be going with Ms. Jalee’s class as well.  We have an itinerary for times, however, they are good until a week before our trip, so we will be double checking to make sure everything is in order for The Frontrunner the closer we get.  What you need to know right now is that on this day we will ALL be meeting at 2393 Wall Ave in Ogden by 7:45am.  The train is scheduled to leave at 8:07am.  If you are late, we will leave with out your child and you will have to drive him or her to the Planetarium.  No exceptions.  Please plan accordingly.  We are due back to 2393 Wall Ave. at 3pm.  Please make sure drop off and pick up is at the train station.

If any parents are going, we will be seeing an IMAX film.  Adults who are coming with us will have to pay small fee for the IMAX.  Between Jalee’s class and ours we have the maximum amount to fit in the theater.  It may be possible, that not every adult is going to fit in the theater, so just a heads up about that.

Permission slips are going to be handed out during conferences, so they don’t get lost in backpacks.  When you come to see us, you will sign it there 🙂

Valentine’s Day Party

The week of February 9th is the week of Parent Teacher Conferences.  They start the 10th and go until Thursday the 12th.  February 12th is when I would like to have a little Valentine’s Party.  The kids can exchange cards and do some activities. This will take place in the morning as the 10th-12th are all Early Dismissals.  Anyone wanting to help, please contact Jaida Ryan.

This week in group lessons:

Level 1s: Time to the hour assessment, horizontal and vertical lines

Level 2s: Money assessment, how to measure right angles and straight with a protractor

Level 3s: Utah Compose overview, Fractions on a number line

In cultural: History

Level 1s: Time to the hour (practice at home!)

Happy New Year Everyone!

We had a fabulous week back.  We’re continuing to talk about expectations and grace & courtesy in the classroom.

This coming Friday it is an early dismissal at 1pm. Monday the 19th is NO SCHOOL

Lunch Time

Please pack forks, spoons, etc, that your child needs for lunch.  It is only sometimes that we have these things (like extra from our holiday feast).

The food truck comes Wednesdays, however, this week it was scheduled to come, but didn’t.  We were never sent a schedule, so many children expected it to come.  If you send your child with money on Wednesdays for the food, please pack them a back up lunch for a just in case circumstance.

If your child gets pizza on Fridays, pack them a few other things as well in case they need more.

Things coming up!

In February we have a field trip to The Planetarium.  We will be riding The Front Runner to SLC.  It will be Feb. 18th.  Please let me know if you would like to go.

Towards the end of February, 3rd graders will take their first state test of the year!  Writing will be first.  We are working on getting our schedule for our classroom.  Our classroom does a breakfast for each of the test dates.  As I get further notice on a date, please let me know if you wish to help make breakfast for our 3rd graders in February.

PTC conferences will be approaching soon!  They are February 10th-12th.  Sign ups will go up soon.  There will be a cut off a few days before the first date of conferences.  Please plan ahead, as sign ups will be going up very soon.

Snack

Please look at the snack sign up to see when your date is.

Slippers

Only a few children didn’t have slippers this week, but most of our class does.  I am checking every morning as slippers are part of the dress code.  Ask your child if their slippers are fitting or if they know they have a pair at school.

Merry Christmas!!

I’m going to update now 🙂

We had a work day Monday along with cultural (Geography).

I want to thank those parents who brought food and who also came.  Doing the Holiday Feast is always an annual favorite, so thank you!

Slippers:

During our International Festival Wednesday a child wasn’t wearing slippers and a toothpick went through their foot.  He had to go to the hospital to have it removed.  On Tuesday, our fire drill alarm went off early.  Luckily, our kids were outside, but those who were inside who were not wearing slippers had to evacuate in their socks.

After the new year, I will be looking for slippers, as slippers are a part of dress code.  If your child needs a new pair of slippers, use the break to get your child some.

Friday (12/19)

We will be watching Arthur’s Christmas.  They may bring pillows and blankets.  We will visit Junior High at 10:30am-11am

Have a great Holiday and a Happy New Year!  I will see you all in 2015!

Cheers!

Welcome December!

It comes and goes very quickly.  Here are some things coming up!

International Festival Update:

The dates have been switched for International Festival.  UPPER EL will go December 17th and LOWER EL will go Thursday the 18th from 1-2:30.  Families and the community are welcome to attend these days!  Junior High will also be celebrating with their activities on the 19th.  We will be touring the Junior High from 10:30-11:00.

Projects ARE DUE Thursday the 18th.  It is best if they are done on a tri-fold board (like a science fair cardboard board).  I told the kids to have a nice attractive board so people will be drawn to it.  I mentioned to them that a lot of words on their board are not very helpful, so images are a great way to make the board attention-getting.  A little bit of information under each of the pictures will help explain what the image is about.  Notecards or a print off of information of what they want to talk about it more helpful than to have it all over their board.  Students will need to practice so when people visit their project they know what to talk about.  Bringing food, music, and souvenirs are very helpful as decor.

Holiday Feast!

Our holiday feast will take place Tuesday December 16th from noon until around 1pm.  We need your participation for this wonderful annual event!  Food sign ups are now available and so is the sign up for if you are coming.  Students look forward to you coming! Please see the sign ups below!  Our room mother, Jaida Ryan, will be helping me with this

IXL

Students are LOVING IXL.  We do a little in the classroom, but it is primarily to be done at home.  Please let me know if you need your child’s login and password.  They should be spending most of the week on it for around 20 minutes.

Volunteer Opportunity!

I would like the students to have a little holiday craft time.  I think making different types of ornaments such as the cinnamon ones and the salt dough ones would be really fun.  Wednesday the 17th would be a great time.  It’s the start of the International Festival, but I believe Upper El is going the morning 9-11.  Ornament making can start at start after lunch around 12:45.  Any other craft ideas are welcome too!  Jada, if you want to ask to see who wants to help on this day that would be fantastic!

Here are this week’s group lessons:

Level 1s: Lines, Hundreds board test, Skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, days from a calendar with beads

Level 2s: Interior and exterior angles, word problem cards

Level 3s: Rounding to the nearest 10s and 100s place.  Triangle review I.

In cultural: History

Level 1s: Body clock (learning minute and hour hands), paper plate clocks, Analog clocks, Salvador Dali melting clock art project

Level 2s: Birth of the Solar System, The Sun

Level 3s: The Devonian, Carboniferous, Mississippian, Pennsylvanian Periods

Have a great week!

Cheers!

Items being brought to school/Playground Behavior

Posted in Classroom | No Comments »

This past Friday, we sat down for our class meeting.  We discussed things being brought to school and playground behavior.

It has been noticed that some students are choosing to bring items to class from home.  The students then share those items and say to students they can have them, but then ask for the item back and the other student or students get mad because it was given to them.  We’ve had issues such as Pokemon cards, tiny magnets, gemstones, erasers etc.  They are causing disruptions and upsets in the classroom.  We talked about it as a class, but please help me enforce this at your home.  Thank you!

At recess, our class likes to play a game called tag/tackle.  Since we are a multiage classroom, some students are older and bigger and when the younger or smaller students are playing, they are getting hurt from the roughness that is occurring.  We discussed as a class that the game of tag/tackle is to no longer be played at recess.  Students are getting hurt physically and emotionally.  The students and I thought taking a break would be beneficial and that later in the year, we would revisit the game and come up with posted rules that would need to be abided by.  Until then, it is no longer a game that can be played.

IXL Homework

Posted in Classroom | No Comments »

IXL is now up and running for our class!

Please have your child work on IXL a good chunk of the week.  It is imperative that 3rd graders work on it as it will help them with test prep and help solidify classroom learning.

Check your email for your child’s login and password
