Welcome to the 2019-20 school year

Welcome Parents,

We are excited to begin the 2019-2020 school year with some of our returning friends as well as meeting many new friends. Because our classroom blog is our main form of communication with parents please read the entire post. We need you to subscribe to our classroom blog to receive email notifications for weekly classroom updates as well as special classroom notifications.  Here are the instructions on how to subscribe:

  • On right hand side of the blog page you will find “Subscribe to our blog.” Click that link
  • When the “Email Subscription Request” page comes up. enter your email address
  • Enter the spam code into the box provided, and click on “Complete Subscription Request” button
  • Go to your email (if it’s not there check junk folder) to complete the activation steps.  Your subscription will not be complete unless you do this last step!

Here are some other things to help make our new beginning run more smoothly:

We will be administering Utah’s Kindergarten Entry Exit Profile, or the (KEEP) assessment for all kindergarten age students. To allow us the time necessary to accomplish this, we will be using August 12 through August 16 for assessments. There will not be school during this week for kindergarten students.  Kindergarten and preschool students will have their first day of school on Monday, August 19th. We are asking all parents (preschool students as well) to sign your child up for 1 time slot. During the hour they are with us, we will do the assessment as well as give each student an orientation to the classroom and playground.  The preschool students will only come for 30 minutes for an orientation.

Please sign up here: https://www.trackitforward.com/site/389525/events

The school and MAPA use the track it forward website as a way to help parents keep track of their volunteer hours as well as find all volunteer opportunities in one place.  You will need to create an account before it will allow you to sign up for a time slot.  It can take up to 24 hours for the registration process to be complete. Please be patient.  If you have any problems, please email me. For those parents who do not sign up by the August 12th they will be assigned a date and time.

Each day we have a snack available for our students.  We ask families to sign up and provide snacks for 2 weeks during the year.  The signup sheets can also be found on the track it forward website. https://www.trackitforward.com/site/389525/events

We have also included Ms. Martha’s Classroom supply list for 2019-2020

Hello Parents.

Also, for those that might not know where Oaklawn Park is, the address is 1200 E 2500 N, North Ogden. Your children will be wearing the shirts that we dyed today for the fieldtrip. I will send them home on Thursday. There is a chance of rain in the forecast for Friday. Field day will happen regardless. Please plan accordingly and dress your child appropriately. I have not heard back if anyone is planning to chaperone. We welcome any who can come and help. Please email me if you are planning on coming.

Thanks,

Looking ahead at our bridging ceremony on Monday, May 20, remember there will not be regular class that day for Early Childhood. The ceremony will be held in the Big Gym and all Kindergarten children should be on the stage in their seats so we can begin at 10:30. Families are invited to attend and bring a sack lunch for afterwards if you would like to join us in this tradition. Our preschoolers and their families are also welcome to attend if they would like to support their peers, however, they will not be bridging. Everything should be wrapped up around noon.

I have spent the last two days doing the KEEP assessments. I will be finishing them up hopefully by next Wednesday. Ms. Valerie and Ms. Kimber will both be in the classroom while I do the assessments. We will be learning about the people of the rainforests in Africa as well as learning about the life cycle of flowers and insects.

Week of May 6, 2019

Hello Parents,

We will be starting our Kindergarten Entrance Exit Profile (KEEP) assessments this week. I am not sure of the exact date because we need to wait until Ms. Jen finishes her assessments. Ms. Kimber is filling in for Ms. Jen while she does her assessments and then she (Ms. Kimber) will fill in for me while I do my assessments.

In geography we will learn about some animals living in the rainforests of Africa. We will learn about the parts of a flower in botany, and parts of an insect in zoology. We will introduce a new simple machine, the wheel and axel. We will also have some art instruction by our art specialist, Ms. Trudy.

Be looking for the May Parent Teacher Conferences on trackitforward coming soon. I thought I had it to post today, but some how I lost it. Have a wonderful weekend, and we will see you soon.

Ms. Martha, Ms. Valerie, and Ms. Kimber

Week of April 29, 2018

Hello Parents,

Thank  you for coming to support us with the participlay.  The children were excited to perform for you and were so happy to see you there.

We will continue our study of Africa, but the biome study will change. We will now be learning about the rain forest. In botany we will learn about flowers. Insects  will be our focus in zoology. Our simple machine for this week will be the screw and in art we will learn about positive and negative space.

Looking ahead-

For our field day at Oak Lawn Park on May 17, we will be doing tie dye shirts to help us to easily distinguish each group (each group will be in a different color combination). We need everyone to bring a plain white T-shirt by Thursday, May 2. We will tie them then and then dye them on Monday, May 13. It is too hard to get them tied and dyed on the same day, and I will be doing the KEEP assessments the week of May 6 and will not be available for much of anything else.

  • Shadowing in lower elementary Monday April 29 (kindergarten students only)
  • KEEP assessment will be done May 6 – May 10 (kindergarten students only)
  • May 17th Early Childhood Field day .  We will be going to Oak Lawn park for our field day
  • May 20 Bridging ceremony (graduation).  There will be no class this day, only the graduation.  More details will be coming soon.
  • May 21- 23 Early release for Parent Teacher Conferences
  • May 24 early release for the last day of school

It is crazy how fast this year has gone by and there is still a lot of work to do. We thank you for the support you have been for us this year. Have a great weekend!

Ms. Martha, Ms. Valerie, and Ms. Kimber

Blog- April 22, 2019

Hello Parents,

Please remember that Monday is an early release day. Morning class is from 8:30 to 10:30 and afternoon class is from 11:00 to 1:00.

This will be a fun and exciting week! Our kindergarteners will be presenting their bird reports. We will be hearing from about five children each day starting on Tuesday and will continue until Friday. On Friday we will present our participlay to you in the small gym. The morning class will perform at 10:30 am and the afternoon class will be at 2:00 pm. On Wednesday we will make a fruit salad to finish up our study of fruit. Please send your child with a piece or small serving of their favorite fruit such as an apple, small bunch of grapes, slice of watermelon, etc.

Next Monday, April 29, our kindergarten children will be shadowing in their prospective first grade classes.  This will give them an idea of what to expect and look forward to in first grade. This is usually something they really look forward to. They will work with an older child for about one hour and then come back to class.

We are still studying the same units that we started at the beginning of April and will fill in new lessons as time allows, but with the book reports and practicing for our play, I will not be as rigid with the schedule as usual. I want this to be a good experience for them, so I don’t want to over plan. I want the children to have the time they need to present their reports, and they can only sit so long. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

We will continue to peel, slice and eat hard boiled eggs for one of our practical life exercises this week. Here is the link if you would like to help with the eggs. It is listed for Tuesday, April 23 under Ms. Martha’s Practical Life (eggs). The time says bring them at 8:30, but if you are an afternoon parent, just bring them when you drop of your child.

Thank you for your support,

Ms. Martha, Ms. Valerie, and Ms. Kimber

Shadowing in a lower elementary class

Hello Parents,

One thing I forgot to mention in the blog is that on Monday April 29th our kindergarten students will be shadowing in a lower elementary class. For those of you who are not familiar with what shadowing is let me fill you in. Each one of our kindergarten students goes to visit one of the 9 lower elementary classes.  They are partnered up with a student from that class and then they do some activities and work in that room with their partner for about an hour and then they come back to our class.  This is a great chance for them to see what they get to look forward to next year as well as ease some of their fears. Please make sure that you child is at school on the 29th.

Have a great week!

Ms. Martha, Ms. Valerie & Ms. Kimber
