Update

Hello there!

Boy, can I tell it is getting close to Halloween!  Each day gets more challenging as the week progresses.  I tried to forbid your children from eating candy until Friday night, but they didn’t go for it.  Bummer!  We’ll just keep trying to channel all of that extra energy into getting more work done!

We are having our Halloween pancake breakfast on Friday morning, so send your children to school hungry!  I will be making the pancakes and providing the butter and syrup.  If you would like to help with anything else, you can sign up here: http://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/twmyj

There is an important 6th grade parent meeting tomorrow at 4:30PM at the school.  Please try to be there!

6th graders received a new math assignment today.  They are still on lesson 1.4.  Problems 13-26 are due on Friday.  This may be challenging for some of them.  I told them to do the ones that they could and try their best.  Only four of the 6th graders came today prepared with their assignment that was due.  Please help me in encouraging your students to complete their assignments and turn them in on time.

We have been celebrating Red Ribbon Week this week at school.   As part of the celebration, the school is having a door decorating contest.  We have worked really hard and created an amazing door!  If we win, we get to have a pizza party.  The judging is tomorrow, so please keep your fingers crossed for us!

Enjoy the rest of your week!  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Join us on a Montessori Journey!

Get Down And Dirty
With the
Montessori Materials
Maria Montessori Academy
Wednesday November 12, 2014
6:30-8:30

Have you ever wondered why your child is playing with beads all day, what snake game is, or how a checkerboard teaches multiplication? Join us for an evening of getting “down and dirty” with the Montessori materials.  Bring your adult friends and neighbors for an opportunity to experience math, language and science, as you never have before! All of our teachers will be here to give lessons and answer questions related to the MMA curriculum.

Try your hand at balancing algebra and using test tube to do long division in a way that will blow your mind. See the transition of the math materials from preschool through the junior high level and learn about how our beads actually help us understand the square root of numbers!

Watch the progression of the grammar materials; from common and proper nouns to prepositional phrases. Discover the meaning of etymology and see how it can actually be fun! See why our children LOVE to learn! Participate in hands-on science and social studies lessons that will solidify your understanding of microorganisms, invertebrates, the rock-cycle, electricity and more!

This evening will be an open house event from 6:30-8:30 but we suggest coming early because we know, that just like the children, you won’t want to leave when it’s over. Remember this is an adult-only night for MMA parents and other community members.

We look forward to sharing our passion for education with you and we know that you’ll learn something new!

Red Ribbon Week

Hello!

Next week our school will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week.  As part of this celebration, the school is having an essay contest.  This year’s theme is Love Yourself-Be Drug Free.  Every student has been asked to submit an essay about this theme.  I have spoken with the students about this and many have been working on their essays in class, but many have not.  These essays are due on Wednesday, October 29th.  Please speak to your children about this theme and encourage them to work on their essays at home so that they will be ready to turn in on Wednesday.

Thank you for your help!

Veteran’s Day Assignment

I gave your students an assignment for Veteran’s Day.  It is due on November 11th.  They are to interview a veteran or research a veteran by reading a book, etc.  They should think of relevant questions to ask about their military service.  If they have trouble writing down the answers, they can ask for permission to record the interview.  They can present their report in whatever way they are comfortable.  They can do a powerpoint, a poster, a written report, or any other creative way they can think of!  Let me know if you have any questions!

Certified Drivers

Hello!

I have had many of you tell me you are willing to drive for field trips and that you are certified drivers.  That’s great and will really help us go on more field trips this year.  However, the school recently sent out a list to the teachers of all of the certified drivers that they have on record.  There is only one certified driver from our class, Sheralin Noble.  If you have gone through the process and believe that you are a certified driver, please contact Ms. April at the front office at abench@mariamontessoriacademy.org and find out what you need to do to be added to the list.  You won’t be able to drive any students until you do so.

Thank you so much!
