Here’s What’s Happening!

Red Ribbon Week

Next week we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week with school spirit days.  Here is the schedule:

Monday, Oct. 28th – Spirit day: ‘Show your true colors and say not to drugs’

Each grade is encouraged to dress in their designated color:

Kinder and early childhood wear RED, 1st wear ORANGE, 2nd wear YELLOW, 3rd wear GREEN, 4th wear PINK, 5th wear PURPLE, 6th wear RED, 7th wear ORANGE, 8th wear YELLOW, 9th wear GREEN, or wear rainbows colors.

Tue. Oct 29th – Spirit day: ‘Don’t get mixed up with drugs’.  Students are encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing mismatched or crazy socks!

Wed Oct 30th – Spirit day: ‘I’m wild about being drug free’.  Students can show their wild side by giving their hair a crazy style! (Please keep in mind anything too distracting or uncomfortable for the student will result in a phone call home.)

Thur. Oct 31st – Spirit day: ‘Team up against drugs’. Students can “sport” their favorite team shirts or jerseys, as long as they are school appropriate.

Fri. Nov. 1st – Spirit day: ‘Saying no to drugs is no sweat’.  Show your school spirit by wearing a sweatshirt/hoodie to school, again making sure they are school appropriate.

We will also be decorating our door for the door decorating contest.  Be looking for information from MAPA about how to vote online for your favorite door!

International Festival

The International Festival at MMA will be held on November 22nd from 1:00-3:00 PM.  Families are invited and encouraged to attend.  Each student is required to complete a project for the festival.  We have discussed this project in class and the students have all chosen the continent and country they would like to study.  I passed out the project requirements today, so please check for those in your student’s backpack.  This is a home project.  The students should present their research on a tri-fold board for the festival and be prepared to present to visitors who come around to view their projects.  Students may bring artifacts, clothing, money, souvenirs, or food from their country as part of their presentation.  Any food plans need to be approved by me ahead of time.  I will send home reminders and further directions in the coming weeks.

Distracting Items

There are many distracting items being brought to class every day.  These items include:  fake fingernails and nail glue, hairbrushes, lip gloss, chapstick, special pens, stuffed animals, sunglasses, little creatures made out of clay, jewelry (especially bracelets), etc.  Just about anything has the potential to become a distraction.  Mechanical pencils are one of the biggest culprits.  I just ask that you check in with your student in the mornings and see what items they are bringing to school and help alleviate potential distractions.

Week 10

We are entering our 10th week of school!  Time is going quickly and I am thoroughly enjoying it.  I am feeling so good about this school year.  I love your children!  They are working hard and learning every day.  We are having a great time.

Just a quick reminder that it is a short week and there will be no school on Thursday or Friday.  I hope you enjoy some time as a family.  I am looking forward to it!

This week we have the 4th grade field trip to the Dinosaur Park on Tuesday.  Ms. Amanda will be working at school with the 5th and 6th graders.

Picture day is coming up on October 22nd.

Book reports were due on Friday.  Thanks to those of you who made sure those got turned in on time!  I look forward to having the rest come in on Monday.

We would appreciate any help we can get with snack.  We have been lucky enough to have some other classes provide us with some of their excess snack and it has been wonderful!  If you feel like you can provide snack for our class, please sign up here:  https://www.trackitforward.com/site/389525/events  We only have 22 students and don’t need anything fancy.  Some crackers, apples, or pretzels work great.  Thank you!
