2019/2020 School Supply List

Here are the supplies for the 2019-2020 school year.  Please feel free to use supplies you still have from last year if they are in good shape.  The students will be keeping their own supplies. Please label everything with your child’s first and last names.  The binder should be labeled on the spine.  It is helpful if supplies are unpackaged before the students bring them to school.  The loose leaf paper and page protectors can be put into the binder.  The pencils, scissors, etc. can be put into the pencil box.  If you are unable to purchase these supplies, please let me know.

A new option this year is to purchase your school supplies using Amazon Smile. This method helps give back to the school.  Please use this list as a reference when searching for supplies.   https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1A8Q4Z22JURA7?ref_=wl_share

THE ITEMS ON THIS LIST WILL BE USED DURING THE REGULAR SCHOOL DAY. THEY MAY BE BROUGHT FROM HOME ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS, OTHERWISE, THEY WILL BE FURNISHED BY THE SCHOOL

White 1 1/2″  three ring binder  (New students only.  Returning students should use their portfolio from last year.  Please make sure you bring it back to school if you brought it home over the summer.)

50 page protectors

1 package loose leaf notebook paper

1 or 2 packages 24 Ticonderoga pencils (These are the only pencils that hold up!)

1 package 24 colored pencils

6 wide ruled composition notebooks

1 pair scissors

1 ruler

erasers (either pink erasers or the kind that go on the end of the pencil)

1 pencil box

glue sticks

2 plastic 3 prong folders with pockets (any colors)

*indoor shoes (slippers, Crocs, etc.  No characters)*

reusable water bottle

wired headphones (over ear or in-ear)

lunch box

backpack

These supplies are optional but appreciated and helpful in the classroom:

paper towels

handheld pencil sharpener

3×5 index cards

graph paper

white printer paper

*Please do not bring any markers of any kind

**We use storage cubbies in our classroom for the students to store their supplies.  Many of the storage bins are getting very worn.  If your student would like to bring a new fabric cube storage bin that they can use for as long as they are in our class, that would be fine.  Otherwise, they are welcome to use the ones that we already have.  Please purchase a neutral color such as cream or tan.   Blue, green, or gray would also work.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  I prefer that you use my school e-mail (kgonzales@mariamontessoriacademy.org) to communicate, rather than replying through the blog. I am so excited to see all of you and embark on this journey together!

End of the year info.

Well, the last two weeks of school are upon us.  I find it hard to believe!  Here are some important things that you should know.

On Tuesday, May 14th, we will be making up our RISE assessments.  Please help your child come to school well rested and with a tummy full of healthy food.  A water bottle would be great, too.

Upper Elementary field day is May 17th from 12-2pm.  Students may wear appropriate athletic attire this day.  You may want to send sunscreen if it is a sunny day.

On Monday, May 20th, we will be participating in Maria’s Market with other upper elementary students.  The students may set up a booth and sell items that they have made or no longer want.  They may not sell candy or sodas.  We love you parents, but you are not invited to stay and attend this fun activity.   The students have been earning Maria Montessori money in class for the past couple of weeks in preparation for this market.  I will be sending home more information next week.

May 21st, 22nd, and 23rd are parent teacher conferences.  Please bring your child with you to the conference so that they can show you all of the things that they have been learning.  Also plan to attend the book fair while you are at conferences.  This is my favorite fair because it is buy one get one free!  You can sign up for an appointment here:

May 21st-24th are early out days and school will be dismissed at 1:00pm.

May 22nd is our 6th grade bridging ceremony at 10:30am.  Please come celebrate the 6th graders as they complete elementary school and move on to junior high.  The parents of 6th graders are invited to come have breakfast with their students before the ceremony at 9:30am.  This is our way of celebrating the 6th graders as well as thanking their parents for their love and support.

May 23rd is crazy sock and/or hair day

May 24th is wear tie dye or your favorite sports team attire day

The last day of school is May 24th.  Students who ordered a yearbook will receive it that day.

I hope I remembered everything!  Please let me know if you have any questions.  kgonzales@mariamontessoriacademy.org
