Roaring Readers Fluency Passages

Greetings,

Today some students received a purple folder. Inside you will find a reading passage and sight words. The reading passages should be read daily. There is a place at the bottom that you can keep record of total words read in 1 minute and number of mistakes. If your child doesn’t like to be timed, that is not important to do. Your child will read this passage Monday -Thursday and return the folder by Friday for a new passage. I will send them out every Monday. The sight words are extra reading material to help your child master sight word reading.

These are the students that should have received the purple folders: Aislin, Carson, Emma, Jaxon, Elijah, Ashland, Emily, Teyla, Avery, Kyrah, Tenlie, Eden, Dallas, Micah, Sianne, Alex, Landon, Ryley

Please let me know if you have any questions.

P.E. & Music

Dear Parents,

We start P.E. and Music on Monday, September 11. Please have your child wear or bring sneakers (shoes for movement) every Monday.

If you are interested in celebrating your child’s birthday, please click here, or the ‘Celebration of Life’ tab is at the top of the blog. Type your child’s name in the month of their birthday (or half birthday) and enter the day you would like to celebrate. We usually have the celebration at 2:00, unless you indicate a time that better accommodates your schedule.

We will have monthly home projects that will need to be done at home. They will present to the class when they finish. I will present the Brown Bag project to the class on Monday, so they understand how it works and what is expected. They will have the rest of the month to bring it in. The monthly projects for the year can be reviewed at the top of the blog under the tab ‘Home Projects.’ I will also send a paper home on Monday with the list of home projects.

We have finished the Great Lessons: Birth of the Universe, Timeline of Life, Needs of Man, etc. I have been assessing math skills and will be conducting a thorough reading assessment next week. We will be in full swing work cycle next week.

Thank you for all your support!

Snack for Tomorrow

Hello Parents,

We had snack provided for this week by a wonderful parent and we used vegetables from our classroom garden. We are out of snack and would like something for tomorrow (Friday). If you can provide snack for us, please send it with your child tomorrow. We could use crackers/cheese, bread/butter, or bagels/cream cheese.

Thank you,

Ms. Holly

First Day of School and Solar Eclipse

Dear Parents,

For the Solar Eclipse each student will be given a pair of glasses which will protect their eyes while viewing the eclipse.  PLEASE speak to your child about the safety and importance of not looking at the sun.  I will also be giving this lesson, but would like for it to be a review from what you have already explained.

Ms. Sara will be outside holding a sign with our names on it.  She will gather any students who need support finding our classroom.  She will be in front of the school Monday-Thursday starting at 8:15 a.m.  Please remember that our drop off and pick up are different from previous years.  The following was sent out by our school director in regards to the new traffic flow:

Access the revised MMA Traffic Trifold (http://mariamontessoriacademy.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/17-18-Drop-Off-Map.pdf) through our website by clicking the “Our School” link and then “Our Facility.” If you are headed northbound when exiting the school, please follow the red route and remind your students to stand in the red area for pick-up. If you are headed southbound, please follow the blue route. City officials want to prevent traffic from turning north at Taco Time. We will have crossing guards at critical points to protect student safety and expect drivers to be hyper vigilant as well. We are confident this new procedure will benefit our students and appreciate your cooperation and patience.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to email me.  I am thrilled to see everyone on Monday morning!

Ms. Holly

Snack Sign-Up for 2017-18

Please sign-up for two weeks to provide snack for the classroom with the following link: https://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/qzbpg

There is a philosophical reason behind snack time in the Montessori Method.  Your child will gain the skills of helping to prepare (cutting apples, etc) and clean up snack and serve their classmates. This teaches leadership and is one of the children’s favorite activities. We will be teaching healthy eating habits and ask that healthy snacks be brought for this time. We really need your help for this food preparation/snack time to work.  Fresh produce from your garden is a welcome,as well as baked goods. Ideally, we ask that you provide snack twice during the school year.

Suggested Healthy Snacks

 Any fresh fruit or vegetables

Pretzels

Graham Crackers

bagels or bread with cream cheese or butter

Dried fruit such as raisins or fruit leather

Granola or granola bars

Crackers

            Gluten free dry cereal

       Cheese

            Rice cakes

           Jerky

Snacks do not need to be assembled beforehand.  Teachers assist children with this.

Please! No candy, sodas, chips/Cheetos, and drink mixes.

3rd Grade Bridging Ceremony

Hello Parents,

If you have a 3rd grader, we will be celebrating their rite of passage to upper elementary on Wednesday, May 24th at 10:30 AM. This will be held on the south side of the building on the field. Please be on time because our class will be first to announce the names of the children. The fourth graders will be mentoring them once they have been announced. You will be sitting in front of the stage behind the elementary students. After the ceremony, parents are welcome to have lunch with us on the field. Thank you for all your support over these past 3 years. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to love and learn from your beautiful children. You will always have a special place in my heart.

Ms. Holly
