SAGE Practice Homework

This is just a reminder that your children have SAGE language assignments due on Thursday.  Out of 26 students only 3 have begun (or completed) the assignment.  This is mandatory.  Not only is it good practice in language, it will help familiarize them with the ins and outs of the program they will be using to test.

Please make sure they have completed the assignment by Thursday, March 19.

Cultural Update March 16-27

We are finishing up History units for all grade levels and moving into a new unit of Botany study.  I am trying out a new method for the students to know what is coming and what their expectations are regarding this next unit.

If you have other students in our school their teachers may already be using “study guides” for their work expectations and project tracking.  This is new territory for me, but I’m excited to try it and think the students will like it too.  The study guides can be found at the Study Guide page at the top of the blog.  I will update these each time we move to a new unit of study.  We will be in Botany until Spring Break and will then move into another Geography Unit.

I welcome any feedback to the study guides that you may have.  This tool will evolve as the year moves on in order to maximize its usefulness.

SAGE Assignment update

Good Morning.

The current SAGE language assignments are available today.  I will be pulling kids aside individually to ensure they know how to log in and access their assignments.

Due date for the current assignment is March 19.

If you have any questions regarding the expectations for practice, please let me know.

Upcoming Events, News and Reminders

Firstly, I wanted to remind everyone about the annual Gala on Saturday, March 21.  This is a fantastic event and supports MAPA in supporting our school and classrooms.

Second, with our next testing window quickly approaching, students need to be practicing SAGE on a regular basis in order to become familiar with the use of the program.  We are still having regular lessons and work cycle and I am by no means “teaching to the test” but do feel it is important that students are practicing with the software they will be testing on.  Because classroom resources are short, we do not have enough computers or time for students to utilize class time for practice and students are expected to practice at home.

We will be focusing on language practice for the next few weeks since this is the first test they will take.  After that it will be math and then science.

If there is no internet access or computer available in the home, please let me know so that your students can practice in class.

Lastly, if you are a chaperone for the 6th grade field trip, we have our next meeting tomorrow, Thursday, March 12 at 6:00pm.  We will be discussing cabin assignments and choosing our bandanna colors.   Please plan on attending.

Ogden Nature Center Field Trip

Mine and Ms. Amy’s class will be going on a field trip to The Ogden Nature Center in Ogden, Utah on March 10, 2015.  We will meet at The Ogden Nature Center at 9:00 a.m. on March 10th.  The students will gain insight into Utah’s diverse landscape.  Discover the forces that create our wetlands, forests and deserts.  Investigate plant and animal life and examine potential threats to many important ecosystems.  We will eat lunch at the Nature Center and explore The Nature Center for the afternoon.  We will return back to Maria Montessori Academy at about 2:30 p.m.

Chaperones please be aware The Ogden Nature Center does NOT allow siblings to come on the field trip with us.

As an aside, IXL assignments this week are student choice.  I have asked the students to choose three areas they need more practice in and let me know what they are working on.  Please make sure your children are practicing IXL, though there isn’t a specific assignment for each grade level this week, they are required to practice.
