Final Fun Run post

Maria Montessori Academy Fun Run Families,

We had a fantastic day! The kids did great! Hopefully they will all sleep well tonight.

Thank you so much for supporting this year’s Maria Montessori Academy Fun Run! The program was a huge success, and I know everyone had so much fun! There’s just one more thing left to do.

We need your help collecting all of our pledges. As a class, we raised $2327.50 — our goal is to collect 100% of all pledges by 11/20/2019.

All sponsors that included their email address when making a pledge will receive an email reminder and instructions to pay for their pledge. Please reach out to those sponsors who did NOT include their email address to let them know they can send cash or check to you, which will then be sent to school in your child’s collection envelope (coming home soon).

Finally, please encourage your student to thank all of their sponsors for helping our school!

Thank you again for your support! Let me know if you have any questions.

Week of November 4, 2019

Week of November 4, 2019

Hello Parents,

This month we will work on Habit 2- Begin with The End in Mind. We will also begin our continent studies, starting with our own continent- North America as well as learn about the different biomes. We will begin our biome studies by learning about deserts and in particular, the deserts of North America. In botany, as we learn about the parts of a plant, we will focus our attention on learning about roots and their functions. In zoology, we will move from invertebrates to vertebrates and begin our studies of vertebrates with reptiles. We will also learn a little about rocks. Please have your child find and bring in one small to medium sized rock, unwashed. In practical life for our food preparation we will make quesadillas to use up the leftover cheese. We will just need some tortillas to add to it. I have set up a trackitforward sign-up if you can help with the tortillas.

I will be sending information about the Boosterthon (fundraiser) regularly the next little while. Please share the information with your family and friends.

Also, if you have not heard the good news, our class won the door decorating contest from Red Ribbon Week thanks to our room parents Andrea McMahan and Kami Johnson. MAPA will be providing both classes with a pizza party. As of now I think we are trying to shoot to have it on Friday. Thanks for all of your votes!

Thank you for your continued support,

Ms. Martha & Ms. Valerie

Hello Parents,
I wanted to bring to your attention two things, first the door decorating contest for Red Ribbon Week. Please see the information that follows; and second, information about the Original Works Project.  I copied and pasted information from MAPA and our room mother. Here it is-

Voting is open for the door decorating contest online here:
Dear Parents & Guardians of Ms. Martha’s Class,
I am emailing to tell you about our class’ decorated door for Red Ribbon Week. If you are on Facebook and have not already liked ‘North Ogden Maria Montessori Academy Parent Association’ page, please do so. There is a contest that we need your help with: The Red Ribbon Week Door Decorating Contest. A post for the contest can be found on their Facebook page and our class door is “The Best Me is Drug Free” with all of the kids’ hand prints in the shape of a red ribbon. Please vote and even share with your friends and family on Facebook so they can vote for our class too! Voting closes tomorrow! Thanks so much!!

Original Works

Hello Parents!
We are so excited to announce that the Original Works order forms are here and ready. Please look for them in your child’s backpack. There are so many wonderful things you can order with your child’s artwork on it. These make wonderful Christmas gifts and grandparents love them. The best part of all is that all proceeds go to your student’s teacher for them to decide how to use in the classroom.
If your child’s artwork has already been turned in to Original Works, you will receive a packet with a picture of it and order information on the back. Please follow the instructions for ordering. If you order by Tuesday, November 5th, you will receive your orders in time for the holidays. If you are unable to order until after, no worries. You will still get your items, they just aren’t guaranteed by the holidays.
If your child’s artwork has not been turned in to Original Works yet, you will receive an order form as well as their artwork with the packet. Please fill out the order form and return it and the artwork to your child’s teacher. If you want to guarantee that you will get the items by the holidays, this needs returned to their teacher by this Friday, November 1st. Any orders turned in between the 2nd and the 12th can not be guaranteed by the holidays. This is the same if your child has not made a piece of artwork yet.
Please support your child and your teacher by ordering.
Thank you for all you do. If you have any questions feel free to email Ms. Jalee: jschofield@mariamontessoriacademy.org.
Thank you for your support!

Week of October 28, 2019

Hello Parents,

This week we will finish up with Habit 1 on being pro-active. However, we will continue practicing that skill and using that language. It is a skill that will serve us well if we use it throughout our lives. We will also finish up our lessons of map making, spiders, and leaves. As part of our Practical Life experience in food preparation we will be making Mummy Muffins this week. If you would like to help by providing us with the items needed to make them, I have set it up on trackitforward. Here is the link: https://www.trackitforward.com/site/389525/event/507699

We will celebrate healthy living and have fun with it during red ribbon week. Monday we will help decorate our classroom door. Tuesday, the children can wear mismatched or crazy socks. On Wednesday, it is crazy hair day. Thursday is team jersey day, and Friday is sweat shirt or hoodie day.

Looking ahead on an important date in November, we will have our annual feast on Friday November 15.  All parents will be invited to attend the feast with your child.  Morning class will be from 10:45 – 11:30 and afternoon class will be from 2:15 – 3:00.  We will also have opportunities for parents to help with the preparation.  I will give you more details as it gets closer, but just wanted you to be aware of it now so you can save the date.

Thank you for all you do to support us. Have a great week!

Ms. Martha and Ms. Valerie

Week of October 21, 2018

Week of October 21, 2019

Hello Parents,

Here are a few calendar items I want you to know about for this week.  First, this week is Red Ribbon Week. I don’t have much information about it yet, but hopefully more information will come soon. Next, Tuesday is picture day. Please read at the end of the blog post for more information on frequently asked questions the office managers get regarding picture day. Lastly, Thursday the “Box Top” store will be opened from 11am to 1pm. We will take our AM kids with box tops to the store just before we go to recess. We will take the PM kids with box tops soon after they arrive at school. For those of you who might not know what the Box Top store is, it is when the children bring in all their saved and cut out ‘Box Tops for Education” coupons from participating products (go to boxtops4education.com for more information) and use the points like money to ‘buy’ different items within their point range. Don’t worry if you have not been saving box tops yet. They have a Box Top store every month and you can just start saving them from here on out. Also, ask friends and grandparents to save their box tops also. The school receives money from the box tops to purchase things they need.

This week we will continue to reinforce our understanding of and ability to being proactive as we work on Habit 1 of The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. We will also continue to learn more about maps and map making. We will learn the parts of a spider and the parts of a leaf and do more “Day and Night” activities. We have been learning about secondary colors and on Friday, we will do some Jackson Pollock paintings with primary and secondary colors.

Picture Day

Does every student get their picture taken? Yes. This is for fall pictures as well as the yearbook

Do the students bring anything with them (i.e. order forms or money) Yes they can, but please order online. Any money will be handed directly to the photographer as the office is not permitted to take money.

Does every student need to be in dress code? YES!!! Again, this will go in the yearbook, so every student should be in dress code. Please no hats or funny head wear.

What happens if I do not receive my photos or if they are wrong? Please reach out to lifetouch with the number on the flyer. The office can not do anything regarding parent orders.

Will there be a retake day? Yes, Re-take day is on November 14, but please encourage your students to have their picture done next week so we do not miss anyone.

Here are some pictures from last week and from the Oaklawn Park fieldtrip. Enjoy!

Thanks for your support,

Ms.Martha and Ms. Valerie

Week of October 14, 2019

Hello Parents,

We have a couple of requests for this next week. First of all, we will be having our leaf party on Wednesday, October 16th. If you have trees that are dropping their leaves, this would be a great time to have a leaf raking party at your house and then send those big bag of leaves to us for our party. Please send them sooner than later so we have an idea of how many leaves we still need. The next request is that our classroom parakeets would love some more treats. They really love “Millet spray”. Here is the link-

https://www.trackitforward.com/site/389525/event/505478

This is a short week. We have Fall Break October 17th and 18th. There will be NO SCHOOL those two days. On Monday we will continue to work on Habit One or on being pro active. We will act out a fun story of how Pete the Cat shows how to be pro active. On Tuesday, we will extend our study of map making by focusing on cardinal directions and the compass rose. And as I said earlier, Wednesday we will have our leaf party. There will be several “leaf” activities that the children can choose from. They are free to come and go to the activities as they wish. It will be a fast but fun week!

One more thing we feel is important to mention; if ever your child brings birthday invitations to school, please ask them not to hand them out personally, but rather ask a teacher to help them put the invitations in the students backpack discretely. That way, if not all children are invited, no one gets their feelings hurt.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Ms. Martha and Ms. Valerie

Week of October 7, 2019

Hello Parents,

Thanks to all of you who helped in anyway with the field trip and the Fall Festival . These wonderful events are not possible without your contributions of time and resources. This week we will continue our studies of day and night; leaves; invertebrates; secondary colors, and being proactive. Here are some pictures of a few of our friends working this week. Enjoy!
