Spelling Bee

Our students did a fantastic job in our classroom spelling bee. All students were brave to stand up and spell in front of our class. We cheered for all! Congratulations to Samantha, Mary Jo, and Dash for winning our class spelling bee! They will compete in the school wide spelling bee next, Tuesday, February 27th from 9-10am. Families are welcome!

We will start our class spelling lists back up next week. Thank you for all your time and effort in working with your student to prepare for our classroom spelling bee.

Classroom Spelling Bee

We will hold our classroom spelling bee on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018. We have been practicing mock spelling bees with our students over the last two weeks. When practicing, we have asked the student to state the word, spell the word, and restate the word. All students will participate in our classroom spelling bee. If your student is one of the top three spellers in our classroom, they will go to the school-wide spelling bee. We will notify you  if your student is one of our top three.

In case you misplaced the letter regarding spelling bee information, here it is again:

Dear Families,

This is our fourth year participating in the Great American Spell Check!

Here’s how it works: your child studies specific word lists and are tested in their classrooms. The three students who spell the most words correctly from each class will then move on to represent their class in the school-wide spelling bees!

Your student needs your help in the following ways:

  • Monday, January 29th – February 5th: Teachers will send home study words.

*Students should begin studying words at their ability level. Once they have mastered those they can move on. Example:

Have a 1st grader doing 3rd grade spelling? Start them on the 3rd grade level words!

Have a 5th grader in 3rd grade spelling? Start them on 3rd grade level words!

*Don’t let your students get caught up in comparing themselves to others. Help them find their own growth and excitement!

  • January 29th-February 20th: Encourage your students to practice, practice, practice!
  • February 20th – 23rd: SpellCheck Tests!
    • These tests will be done in the classroom to determine the top three spellers from each room.
  • Friday, February 24th : The top three students will be chosen from each classroom to participate in the school-wide spelling bee. You will be notified by your child’s teacher if your child makes it to the school wide spelling bee.
  • Tuesday February 27th: School-wide spelling bees will take place in the gymnasium! Families are welcome to support their students!
    • LE- 9-10am
    • UE & Junior High- 11-12pm

The top two students from the school will go to the State Spelling Bee on March 10th in SLC!

Your support is crucial in the following areas;

  • Encourage your student’s participation.
  • Help your students learn to correctly spell the 50 words from their grade level and then move on to spell as many as possible!

I hope that you share our excitement about our school’s participation in the Great American SpellCheck. Together we can encourage strong spelling skills and a love of literacy! Please be sure to ask questions if you have them.

Sincerely,

MMA Staff & Faculty

Valentine’s Day

We will be passing out valentines cards on Wednesday, February 14th. If your student would like to participate, please have them bring in a box or bag (they can decorate it if they choose) and valentines cards to pass out to their classmates on this day. We have 28 students. I’m not going to send out names of all the students, because that can become cumbersome when we have to wait for every student to find each name to pass out. Please find non-material ways to have your student show appreciation.

MAPA

MAPA Board  is currently looking for a VP for the remainder of the year who will then become the president for the 2108-2019 school year. Please contact heidibradley81@gmail.com if you or you know someone who would be interested.

Don’t know what MAPA is… it is our schools PTA program. The fall festival, gala, book fairs, teacher appreciation, safety, box tops all happen because of MAPA and we want that all to continue to happen, so keep your eyes and ears open for someone who would do a great job!
We hope you all are enjoying the track it forward program. All events whether it is school wide or for the class room will be through track it forward from now on. There is a way to categorize events by teacher, school wide or both together:
1. Login to you track it forward account
( if you have not signed up please do so by going here https://www.trackitforward.com/site/mapa
2. Click on event sign ups
3. Click on filter by category (the little blue writing on the sample pictured)
4. You can then select what categories you want to see the calendar for. For example if you want to see only Ms. Joy’s sign ups click on Ms. Joy. If you want to see just Ms. Joy’s and the school wide events click on both Ms. Joy and school wide. You can do as many as you want.
5. If you do not see your teachers name on the category selection yet, be patient. They have not yet created an event on the track it forward calendar yet. But there next event will be on there. So keep a watch out:)
6. Sign up for event and your done. Track it forward will email you a reminder 2 days before the event.
