Hello Everyone,
It appears that spring is trying to break through. Rain instead of snow and weather in the 60s. The students definitely feel it and are getting spring fever.
With the warm weather and the change of time with day light savings, we are bound to see some changes in behavior with the students. We greatly appreciate your support and all that you always do for your wonderful children. This last week we had more than one student fall asleep in class. We understand that life gets busy and it is not always easy to get kids to bed at a decent time. I find myself falling into this category many times a week. Ms. Tiffany and I are asking for your help in getting your children to bed at a good time and with good meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I know we all want our kiddos to be healthy and happy and good sleep and food definitely helps. Please do your best to get your children to bed at an early time. This way the kids can be awake and alert and learn better at school. Thank you for your support in this.
There will be no school this Friday. Teachers have a professional development day so the students will be off.
Originally, the plan for our next home project was for it to be due the week of the 16th. However, since I failed to get the students assigned topics out last week, I am pushing the project back until the week of the 23rd. I will have assignments out by Tuesday. I have also attached the letters for each level so you can be aware of what the topics will be on.

Don’t forget to buy your tickets for the GALA. It is coming up Saturday, March 21. It will be at The Timbermine Steakhouse from 6-9 pm. It is always lots of fun with good food, good people, and great things to bid on in support of our school. Our MAPA committee is still looking for baskets to use in the GALA so if you have any, please send them to the school. Also, thank you all for the donations to our basket. We received many.

Our next home project is coming up. They will be due the week of March 16. This week a letter will go home with information on the home projects and the date your child will be presenting.
Level 1s: Students will be assigned a specific category of vertebrate animal (fish, amphibian, reptile, bird, or mammal). The following are things they will be expected to cover in their presentation:
Provide an example of a specific animal in the category they have been assigned (e.g. salmon, seagull, frog, llama, etc.) Provide interesting facts about their specific animal. Describe the general characteristics of the type of animal (e.g. Feathers, warm blooded, lays eggs, etc.).
Describe the habitat it lives in. (e.g. water, land, both, etc.)
Level 2s: Students will need to research the category of invertebrate animal that they have been assigned. The following are things they will be expected to cover in their presentation: How it looks– its physical characteristics. Where it lives. How it moves. How and what it eats. Other interesting facts
Level 3s: Students will research a biome they will be assigned that is located on the continent of Africa. They will need to include information about the climate(weather, temperature, etc.), natural resources, people, plants, and animals. They should also have a picture of a map that shows where this biome is located.

Happy Leap Day today. Welcome March tomorrow. It is getting warmer, but still chilly. Please continue to send your children with weather appropriate clothing for recess.
Monday is Dr. Seuss’ birthday. We will be doing some activities and reading Monday afternoon to celebrate this.
Thank you to everyone for your support this past week in celebration of literacy week. Our literacy committee did an amazing job planning things to help kids celebrate reading and develop a greater love for it. Thank you to all who were able to attend literacy night with your kids. It was a lot of fun.

You can also still donate things for our class basket until this Thursday. Our basket is family fitness. We have a few items but would always love more. This Thursday is also the next MAPA meeting at 5:30 pm. All are welcome. This is their annual meeting and also when they will be putting all the baskets for the GALA together.
We do not have school, Friday March 13. This day is a professional development day for teachers.

Hello Everyone,
We are so excited for literacy week next week! We have many fun things planned throughout the week to help the kids get excited about reading.
On Monday we will be having a school wide read-a-thon from 1:30 to 2:30. Students should bring some of their favorite books to read and share with friends during the read-a-thon. Students should not bring blankets, pillows, or stuffed animals for this.
Also on Monday, students should bring a copy of the cover of their favorite book, or a copy of their favorite book. We want them to share what it is to the class and tell why they love it. We will then hang the covers outside our classroom for others to see.
Tuesday is our school wide spelling bee. Not all our students chose to participate in our class spelling bee, but those who did were amazing and did an awesome job. We are proud of them all and hope they are also proud of themselves. We do want to say congratulations to Ari and Christian from our class who will be representing our class in the school spelling bee. The school spelling bee will be Tuesday, February 25, at 9:30 in the addition gym. All are invited to come and support.
Literacy night will be Thursday, February 27 from 5:30 to 7:00. All are invited to attend. You can even come dressed up as your favorite book character. There are many different classrooms and areas in the school for you to visit and participate in activities and works. There will also be a Scholastic book fair in the library. I am not sure on the hours for this throughout the week, but I do know for sure it will be open during Literacy night.
We will wrap up literacy week by having community readers on Friday. If any of you or your family members are interested in a reading a favorite children’s book to our class, please email me and let me know so we can set something up.
Two things that will be happening all week next week, are the book swap and star hanging. For the book swap, students can bring any book they are not reading or wanting anymore and put in on one of the many tables that will be around the school. They can then pick a different book from the table. For the star hanging, students will be able to hang a star on a large black paper that will be hanging in the halls. When they finish a book or a chapter of a book, they can write the name of the book and their name on the star and hang it up. For those still learning to read, we encourage parents to read with them so they can hang stars also.
Don’t forget to purchase your tickets for the GALA. Please see the previous blog post for more info on where to buy the tickets. You can also donate money to help get things for the silent auction baskets. We would also love any donations for our basket you might have. Our basket theme is family fitness. You can donate things like jump ropes, balls, water bottles, etc. MAPA is also looking for any baskets you might be willing to donate to put these objects in.
The next MAPA meeting will be the night of Thursday, March 5, at 5:30. They will be putting the baskets together this night so we need all things by then. You can attend this meeting if you would like and help and offer suggestions ideas.
