Literacy Week February 24-28

We have many fun activities for the students during literacy week. Here are a few things for you to be aware of:

We will have a book swap all week. If you are looking to exchange a book for a different book, have your child bring a book the swap out. The tables will be up all week in the hallways.

Monday at 1:30-2:30 pm will be a school-wide read-a-thon. We will be reading in our classrooms. My students are able to bring books from home and one small stuffed animal or squishy. I will not allow blankets or pillows.

We will be hanging copies of book covers in the hallway. Your child can draw or print a copy of their favorite book cover to bring in by Wednesday.

Literacy Night is Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.

Valentine’s Day Goings-On

I would like your child to bring Valentine’s box or bag on Thursday, February 13th. We have Art on Friday afternoons and I would like to make sure we have plenty of time to allow for the students to share Valentine’s with each other. We have 23 students in our class.

We will incorporate Valentine’s activities throughout our work cycle to enjoy the holiday (writing, math, etc.).

Science Home Project

The students will present their science project on Friday, February 7th. They are welcome to bring their project in when completed and present to their classmates. On February 7th, the lower el. classes will rotate to each class to see each other’s projects. Make sure your child’s project is complete and at school by February 7th.

Level 1: Research a scientist or inventor

Level 2: Science project using the scientific method

Level 3: Make a simple machine or research laws of motion

Spelling Bee update

Greeting!

Only 3rd through 9th graders are able to attend the Regional and National Spelling Bee, so, lower el. is only allowing 3rd graders to be in the school-wide Spelling Bee.

We will conduct a classroom Spelling Bee with all the interested 1st through 3rd graders. This will determine the top 2 3rd graders for the school-wide Spelling Bee. For the classroom Spelling Bee, we will have more than just the 3rd graders be the top spellers as we will incorporate 1st and 2nd graders as well.

Spelling Bee

We have our school-wide Spelling Bee on February 24th during school hours. Only two students from each class will be in the Spelling Bee. The students that are interested will practice at home and when we get close to the Spelling Bee I will test the students to see who will present that day.
