Original Works deadline has been extended

Hello Families,

Good news! Our Original Works deadline has been extended. There is still time to order something with your child’s artwork on it and still receive it before the holidays. You have until November 9th now. Late orders can be submitted until the 15th. Your children all worked hard on their art and are proud of it. These make good, easy gifts for grandparents and other family members. The ornaments and quilt squares are great keepsakes. Please take some time to view your options and order. The proceeds from this go directly to your student’s teacher to be used in the classroom. Simply follow the instructions provided on the Dear Family Letter you received previously.

school code: Marmon

For any questions please contact Ms. Jalee at jschofield@mariamontessoriacademy.org.

Thank you!

Day of the Dead

We are celebrating Day of the Dead on Friday, November 1st. We would like to make mini pizzas. Let me know if you can donate one of these items: peppers (green, yellow, red), olives, pepperoni, grated cheese, pizza sauce, pizza dough. We will be making sugar skull pizza and baking them in our oven for lunch. If your child would like more than that for lunch, please have them pack extra food to eat in their lunch box.

We also have an altar in our classroom if your child would like to bring a picture or something that reminds them of someone (pet, relative, brother, parents, grandparents) that is no longer with us.

Original Works

Hello Parents!
We are so excited to announce that the Original Works order forms are here and ready. Please look for them in your child’s backpack. There are so many wonderful things you can order with your child’s artwork on it. These make wonderful Christmas gifts and grandparents love them. The best part of all is that all proceeds go to your student’s teacher for them to decide how to use it in the classroom.
If your child’s artwork has already been turned in to Original Works, you will receive a packet with a picture of it and order information on the back. Please follow the instructions for ordering. If you order by Tuesday, November 5th, you will receive your orders in time for the holidays. If you are unable to order until after, no worries. You will still get your items, they just aren’t guaranteed by the holidays.
If your child’s artwork has not been turned in to Original Works yet, you will receive an order form as well as their artwork with the packet. Please fill out the order form and return it and the artwork to your child’s teacher. If you want to guarantee that you will get the items by the holidays, this needs returned to their teacher by this Friday, November 1st. Any orders turned in between the 2nd and the 12th can not be guaranteed by the holidays. This is the same if your child has not made a piece of artwork yet.
Please support your child and your teacher by ordering.
Thank you for all you do. If you have any questions feel free to email Ms. Jalee: jschofield@mariamontessoriacademy.org.

We are grateful!

I want to give a shout out to our parents that presented this week. The students had the privilege to squeeze their own fresh organic orange juice with Tharon Valencia. He brought a box of oranges, a citrus squeezer, and animal crackers for the students. We had the opportunity to have Daniel Payne present fire safety prevention and he taught the students tips and important information to stay safe during a fire. He let the students put on his protective gear.

We got adorable pictures for the yearbook. Thank you for your generosity and the time you spent with our students. They loved it!

We also had Ballet West visit our school. The students learned about the hard work to be a professional ballerina/dancer and were able to watch a short performance of sleeping beauty. We enjoyed seeing their exquisite costumes and outstanding talent.

We are grateful!

November Home Project

Each student will research and explore a country from Africa. They will need to find a creative way to share what they have learned with the whole school. This project will need to include the country’s flag, a landform in the country, and how fundamental human needs are met there (such as transportation, food, housing, etc.). Students may include any other interesting facts about their particular country. They will need to have a display that can include pictures, artifacts, clothing, music, and food.

The project will be due on November 18th. Our Festival will be held on Friday, November 22nd. Students will present their projects individually in their own class in addition to presenting to the entire school during the cultural festival. During the festival, students will have the opportunity to visit each classroom and experience all of the continents and countries throughout the world as they view the presentations prepared by their schoolmates. Each student is expected to participate in the festival.

Field Trip Tomorrow

Don’t forget Friday, October 11, is our field trip to Clark Planetarium. Please make sure your child is at the train station on Wall Avenue in Ogden at 8:10 a.m. I will be there at 8:00 a.m. and the train leaves around 8:30 a.m. We will take the frontrunner and enjoy a day at the planetarium of exploring the exhibits, watching an IMAX movie, and seeing a presentation on the planets at the science around the sphere. We will leave the planetarium around 1 p.m. and take the frontrunner home. The train will arrive back in Ogden at 2:24 p.m. Please make sure your child is picked up at the station on Wall Ave at that time.

Chaperones

October 9, 2019

Dear Chaperones,

Thank you so much for offering to chaperone our upcoming field trip to Clark Planetarium. We will be taking Frontrunner to and from the planetarium. In order to ensure a safe and fun trip for everyone, we wanted to provide you with some guidelines.

For the safety of our students, please guarantee that the students you have been asked to chaperone are always with you and that you can always see them. Even if students are with a buddy, please do not allow them to go somewhere on their own. If students need to use the restroom, please escort them and wait outside the bathroom or stall if appropriate.
On the train, please sit near the students you are responsible for and if possible, please sit next to or across from them. During the short walk from the train station to the planetarium, please keep the students you have been asked to chaperone with you.
On the field trip, we are all representing our school. If students are misbehaving or acting in a way that is not acceptable at the place visiting, please kindly redirect them. Do not allow students to run up and down the aisles of the train or to wander around. They should be sitting with their pockets on the seat, feet off the seats.
We will not be the only people on the train. If needed please remind students to leave others’ things alone and talk with a quiet, school appropriate voice.
We will also be eating our lunches in the theater while watching the IMAX movie. When the movie is over, please ensure that students restore their environment to the best of their ability. As you all know, at our school we want students to respect and take care of their environments. We need to leave the theater better than when we got there.

Again, we want to thank you for your willingness to help make our field trip a success. Without you, we would not be able to attend as many field trips as we have. As a chaperone, students are expected to treat you with respect and grace and courtesy. Please help by respectfully redirecting them as needed. You are a vital part of our MMA community and we appreciate all you do.

Sincerely Yours

MMA Lower Elementary Team
