Seeking help

Hello parents-

Asher Misner who is a level 5- his father has left for a year to serve our country in Honduras.  His mom is need of help with getting him to school and home- she is willing to help contribute a cost.  If you are in anyway available to help at all, please contact her at  Heather Misner- hmisner82@gmail.com

Also Jen, our room mom, is looking for someone who can help volunteer to to take over the Gala basket.  She is VERY busy helping me coordinate field trips and taking this off her plate would help her alot.  If you are interested please contact me or her ASAP at jenqw@digis.net

Also the State Capital field trip is on March 9, not February 9.  Sorry about the confusion!

Hope you are making it through these snow storm blizzards- I was busy digging out of 16+ inches of snow today.  Be safe but also enjoy.  I had to stop myself a few times today to remember to enjoy and play with the kiddos.

weekly update

Dear Parents-

This week we went on a fabulous field trip to Astro Camp.  At the end of the day there were a lot of mixed feelings about the field trip, by the next morning everyone was talking about how they want to go again.  This field trip is a simulated activity of a shuttle take off and landing,  There is a lot of reading scripts, expectations and team building.  We are also competing against another class- which is often a new and/or uncomfortable process considering Montessori is not a promoter of competition.  All of these factors were a part of the heightened emotions.  ( I will post pictures when the site is functioning again)

This Wednesday level 5’s are going to JA Bizztown.  Thank you Brant, Holly, Ben and Mallory for chaperoning and driving.  Level 5’s will meet at North Shore and leave for SLC at 7:30 AM.  A donation of $5 can be provided to the office or at https://secureinstantpayments.com?Event=1175  Also a JA Bizztown form came home on Friday please have this returned tomorrow to school.

FIELD TRIPS–  Donations for field trips can always be given to the office or can be donated online at https://secureinstantpayments.com?Event=1175  THANK YOU for your support.  If every child donates $10 for the year, this can help to cover all field trips!

  • February is a BIG month for field trips, all three field trips are ALL day field trips.  Please email Jen at jenqw@digis.net if you can volunteer to chaperone.
  • Wednesday, February 1 we will be going to the Leonardo in Salt Lake City.  We will be taking the Frontrunner.  I am looking for 2-3 chaperones.
  • Thursday, February 9 we will be going to the state capital with Ms. Kirsten class.  I am looking for 2-3 chaperones.  We will be taking a bus.
  • Friday, February 10 we will be going to Weber State for Fabulous Friday.  This is an art field trip.  I am looking for 2-3 chaperones and we will be taking a bus.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES– conferences are just around the corner.  February 15-17, these will be early out days at 1:00, please make arrangements for your child.  These conferences are student led- a wejoin link will be set up this week, please be on the look out.

SKATE NIGHT– is Tuesday, hope to see you there for this family fun event!

Junior High Open House– Jan. 26 from 6:30-7:30.  I would suggest that even if your intent is for your child to attend a different Junior High, still come and attend.  It is very beneficial.  6th graders will be shadowing all day on Thursday, February 23.

I hope you have a fabulous week and thank you for all of your support,

Ms. Nicoletta

Weekly Update

Dear Parents-

This last week was full of adventure.  Level 4 and 5’s went to America First to learn about credit unions and get a tour.  We had a nice walk in the snow.  Thank you Natalie for joining us and chaperoning.IMG_9514

On Thursday level 4 and 6’s interviewed the level 5’s for JA Bizztown positions.  The level 5’s took these interviews very seriously and were in fact nervous to interview.  As for level 4 and 6’s these are great opportunities to learn how to conduct interviews and to collaborate and discuss with a team.  IMG_9530  IMG_9528  IMG_9524

This last week we also began to prepare and conduct our astronaut training for Astro Camp this week.  The class is so excited for this field trip- all field trips are exciting but this is one of their favorites.  Thank you so much to all of our chaperones who are attending to help make this field trip happen- Sarah, Ashley, Mallory, Brent and Brant- THANK YOU!

Donations– A reminder that donations for field trips are very appreciated.  Each class is allotted an amount of money for field trips each year which help for these experiences.  Unfortunately the amount allotted does not cover all of these amazing opportunities so donations are greatly appreciated.  We are asking for a $5 donation or anything to help contribute.  If you would like to donate this can be taken to the main office.

Tomorrow– Students will come to school at normal time and will come into the classroom. At 9:00 as a class we will walk across the street to meet with our chaperones to leave for the field trip.  We will be back to school for afternoon pick up at 3:00.

January 25 is the next field trip- ONLY for level 5’s.  This another great field trip.  We are looking for one more chaperone for this field trip.  If you are available please email Jen Whetton at jenqw@digis.net  Bizztwon positions are as follows:  Harley- treasurer, BANK: Alex- Savings Officer, Neeley- CEO, Jace- CFO, Hunter- teller 1, Kaycen- teller 2  COMPUTECH: Payton- CEO, Carter- sales manager, Asher- specialist

Spelling reviews will be on Wednesday- please have your child practice their words with you.

SNACK– The snack sign up is very limited for the remainder of the school year.  Please take an opportunity to sign up to bring snack.  Snack is an essential element of the classroom; students help to prepare snack for the classroom, snack time is an opportunity to enjoy small conversation with someone for 5 minutes, this time to eat is also important for the health and nutrition of the students- it is BRAIN energy.  Please sign up at https://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/pvjfq

UPCOMING EVENTS:

January 19th- 6th Grade Social 5-6:30

January 24th- Skate Night, 5-9

January 26th- Junior High Open House 6:30 to 7:30

Have a great week,

Ms. Nicoletta

This week the students continent reports are due on Tuesday and their Poetry book reports are due on Wednesday. The poetry book report was extended by two weeks.  We have had several students already turn in their continent reports and their poetry book reports- thank you for supporting them with their long term projects.

Spelling Words and MMA Winter Concert

SPELLING WORDS- The students got NEW spelling words yesterday.  A set of words should have come home with them.  They will have their Spelling reviews the 13th of December.  Please have them practicing at home as well- there are lots of activities to do.  words-their-way-activities

MMA Winter Choir Concert

Howdy MMA Families!

MMA is having a Winter Holiday Choir Concert on Thursday, December 8th.   Mark it on your calendar!  Everyone is invited!  Upper Elementary and Lower Elementary children are both performing, but it is not required.  It will take place in the MMA gym.  It will be about 35-40 minutes long.  We have verylimited seating.  Because of this, we have split the student body in half by the students’ last name.  We will have TWO performances that same night, but, you only need to come once at your specified time.  However, if you are in the Honor Choir you will need to be there for both performances.

If your students’ last name starts with an   A-K, you will come at 5:50pm and it will start right at 6:00pm.
If your students’  last name starts with an   L-Z, you will come at 6:50pm and it will start right at 7:00pm.

For the families that come at 6:50, please do not come earlier, because the other performance will just have ended and families will be exiting the building.

If your children have different last names and are scheduled to go at different times, please only come to one.  You get to choose which one your family wants to go to, only if this applies, otherwise come to the appropriate scheduled performance.

This is a Holiday concert and appropriate attire is encouraged.  It really makes the event feel special and it sometimes is fun to dress up.  Knee length dresses with covered shoulders and tights or leggings look best.  Slacks with button up shirts and ties would be nice….I call it Sunday best or if you were going to a wedding etc.  It does not have to be school dress code, but, consider to wear the best you have.  This is not required just encouraged.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me at Cstarks@mariamontessoriacademy.org .  I am looking forward to celebrating this Holiday with you and show casing what we have been learning in music.  Hope to see you all there.

Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
MMA Elementary Music Specialist
Connie Starks

Welcome Back- being Thankful

Dear Parents-

I hope you are enjoying break.  I want to take a moment to tell you how THANKFUL I am each and everyday to be in your child’s life, to share the classroom with them, to watch them grow, to be a part of their emotional growth and maturity, to be able to see the “lightbulbs” flash with peer enjoyment of learning- I am Thankful to have such wonderful parents of our classroom.  It takes a village, I am so thankful to have each and everyone of you be a part of this village!  Thank you for everything you do- for your time, your donations, your support and your help with our classroom- the thank you is not always said but it is definitely acknowledged- THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU!!!

DECEMBER 9– Early Out 1:00

DECEMBER 15– In honor of us recognizing you and acknowledging all of you- our class and Ms. Marlene’s class will be having a Family Holiday Feast in the North Kiva on December 15 at 1:00.  Instead of you providing for the feast the students are preparing something special for you!  The classes will also be performing some songs and a few other surprises for you.  Please if you can get the time off, please come and enjoy this special afternoon with our two classes.

1,000 CRANESorange-crane_

A few months ago our class read the book Sadako- a book that tells the story of a atomic bomb, cancer and the 1,000 cranes.  After being diagnosed with leukemia from the radiation, Sadako spent her time in a hospital folding origami paper cranes in hope of making a thousand of them. She was inspired to do so by the Japanese legend that one who created a thousand origami cranes would be granted a wish. Her wish was simply to live.  After reading this book- the class decided they wanted to make 1,000 cranes and send them to people- to give them wishes of hope.  In honor of this- our class and Ms. Marlene’s class have come together and decided that they are going to make a 1,000 cranes (approximately 16 per students) by February 10 and we are going to send 100 to 10 different places (the classes decided):

  • Primary Childrens Hospital
  • A homeless shelter
  • An orphanage
  • Veterans
  • A place in Africa
  • A place that has received recent Natural Disasters
  • A family shelter
  • Animal shelter
  • International place that is in destruction from war
  • Third world country Montessori School

CELEBRATIONS OF LIFE– We have 3 birthdays coming up in December.  The children really like to have their Celebration of Life in class.  This is a wonderful time for the students to express their gratitude to the child and to share a compliment or an acknowledgement of the student.  Please make sure to email me to schedule a time to have the Celebration of Life- most days at 9:00 or 2:30 work best, it is about 30 minutes.  If your child had their birthday during the first six weeks of class please also schedule a time.

SNACK- We do not have anyone signed up for the snack for the last two weeks of December before break! This week Carter Yearsley is signed up for snack.  The following is the new snack sign up for Semester 2:
