Parents,

I need to thank all of the very generous parents who donated items for our practical life activities.  Ms. Martha and I really appreciate your help!

This week we will be doing a close read on the life cycle of chicks and then next we we will begin incubating some chicken eggs.  I can hardly wait!  We also have our bird show this Wednesday.  We are asking for the afternoon class to be dropped off at 11:15 and for the morning students to be picked up at noon.

This week we will be looking at the plants and animals of the European wetlands as well as studying the parts of a flower.

Have a great week!

The week of April 9

Parents,

I hope you all had a rejuvenating spring break, I know I did.  I cannot believe that there are only 7 weeks left in school, there is still so much to do.  This week we will introduce Birds for our zoology study.  We will also introduce Europe and the wetlands of Europe.  We will begin our study of flowers in botany and Form in art.  Our simple machine for the week will be pulleys and we will be reading some fairy tales from Europe.

I want to give all of you a heads up for some things that will be happening later in the month.  On Wednesday April 18 we will be watching a bird show here at the school.  The morning class will stay until noon on this day and the morning class will come early at 11:15.  On Friday April 27 we will be putting on our annual participlay.  We will be joining Ms. Joy’s class for this fun event.  Family is invited. The morning class will preform at 10:30 and the afternoon class will preform at 2.

We have several new practical life works in our classroom and are in need of some donations.  Please sign up here if you would be willing to donate.

We hope you have a great week!

Pick up

Parents,

The office has asked the teachers to make  an extra push to have everyone use the crosswalk after school.  I know that several parents have become accustomed to walking along the fence line by the junior high.  We have not worried too much about this but the administration is asking that everyone use the crosswalk.  We know that this will mean a few extra steps for you but please help us set good examples for our students.

Thank you!

Ms. Jen

The Week of March 20th

Parents,

This week we will talk about the different types of reptiles.  For the next few months we will be talking about simple machines.  There are 6 types of simple machines: the wedge, lever, incline plane, screw, wheel and axel, and pulley.  Last week we did an overview of all of them and this week we will look at the wedge.  Some examples of wedges are nails, sewing needles and ramps.  Our artist of the month is Henri Matisse.  On Firday we will be doing a group Matisse inspired art project.

This week we will begin reading our first chapter book as a class.  We will read the Magic Treehouse Dinousaurs at Dawn.  Each day we will read a chapter or two.

Thanks to all those parents who supported the Gala.

Have a great week.

The week of Feb. 26

Parents,

Let me begin by giving you a rundown of what we did this past week.  We did a close read on the life cycle of frogs and made a frog book and adding a page each day of the different stages frogs go through as they mature.  We also continued our study of roots and Ms. Joy made her famous root soup (potato soup).  Those who tried it loved it.  We also learned about Van Gough’s “Starry, Starry, Night”.

This week is literacy week.  We will be having different activities going on all week to support this.  The theme this year is  “Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.” As a school we will be reading the book Ishi by by Akiko Yabuki. Here is a link to the book  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRXJc7YYtDU

and here is a link to some activities that you can do at home to go along with the book http://www.ishitherock.com/activities/

Each student will be making an ishi rock and as a school we will be making our own version of an ishi book that will be in our school library. Thursday is literacy night from 6 to 8.  It is always a fun night.  On Friday we will be having a read-a-thon.  Each child can bring their favorite book to read with some of our junior high mentors.  As teachers we will be sharing one of our favorite books with the kids: The book with no pictures by B. J. Novak.  Don’t worry about sending blankets, pillows stuffed animals etc.

Thank you to all of our amazing parents.  Ms. Martha and I appreciate all of your support.

Have a great week!

Ms. Jen & Ms. Martha
