The week of Feb. 26

Parents,

Let me begin by giving you a rundown of what we did this past week.  We did a close read on the life cycle of frogs and made a frog book and adding a page each day of the different stages frogs go through as they mature.  We also continued our study of roots and Ms. Joy made her famous root soup (potato soup).  Those who tried it loved it.  We also learned about Van Gough’s “Starry, Starry, Night”.

This week is literacy week.  We will be having different activities going on all week to support this.  The theme this year is  “Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.” As a school we will be reading the book Ishi by by Akiko Yabuki. Here is a link to the book  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRXJc7YYtDU

and here is a link to some activities that you can do at home to go along with the book http://www.ishitherock.com/activities/

Each student will be making an ishi rock and as a school we will be making our own version of an ishi book that will be in our school library. Thursday is literacy night from 6 to 8.  It is always a fun night.  On Friday we will be having a read-a-thon.  Each child can bring their favorite book to read with some of our junior high mentors.  As teachers we will be sharing one of our favorite books with the kids: The book with no pictures by B. J. Novak.  Don’t worry about sending blankets, pillows stuffed animals etc.

Thank you to all of our amazing parents.  Ms. Martha and I appreciate all of your support.

Have a great week!

Ms. Jen & Ms. Martha
