Welcome December

Hello Everyone,

I hope you have all had an amazing week off and were able to spend time with your families. December will be her Monday. The year has flown.

The next home project is due the week of December 15. We have been studying the continent of Europe so your student needs to do a report on anything that has to do with Europe. This can be a country, the history, the people, food, etc. The International Festival will be that week so the projects need to be done for the students to present at the Festival.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

IXL

Hello,

The school has purchased an IXL account for all the students. I have used IXL to send you all an email containing your student’s username and password. IXL is an online math site your kids can work on at home. Level 3s will also be practicing IXL at school as a test prep work.

Let me know if you do not receive an email from IXL or if you have any questions.

Thanks.

Jalee

Thanksgiving is Next Week

I hope you have all had a good weekend. Winter is definitely coming. It is getting cold. High temperatures for this week are going to be in the 40s. We will continue to go outside for recess unless we are told it is too cold or if it is raining and too wet. Please make sure you send appropriate clothing with your children. Coats are a necessity and gloves and hats are a good idea too. When we get more snow, boots are the best idea for recess.

Thursday, Novemeber 20th is the annual Gratitude Feast!!
We will be hosting local Social Workers and Therapists. It’s going to be an intimate affair
that will take place in the Jr. High “yurtable”. A wejoinin link is available for families to
start signing up to donate prepared food or help on the day of the event.
To help with food donations:
http://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/qrtku
To help at the Gratitude Feast:
http://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/wgqcf
This is such a special event to show our school’s gratitude to hard working members of
or community by serving them a Thanksgiving meal. Our class is working with Ms. Nicoletta’s class to make placemats for this event.

We will not have school at all next week, the week of November 24-28. Enjoy this time off with your families during this wonderful Thanksgiving time.

The next home project is going to be for the International Festival that is December 17 and 18. We have been studying the continent of Europe. Your child’s home project will need to be on something about Europe. They can choose to do it on a country, the money, animals, any historical landmarks, the sky is the limit. These will need to be done the week of December 15 so we can present them at the International Festival. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks.

Ms. Jalee

Montessori Materials Night

Hello Everyone,

I hope you have all enjoyed your weekend and are loving this fall weather. I know I am. It is my favorite time of year.

We have a fun, full week this week. Tuesday we have a young author named Mckenzie Wagner coming to visit our school. She is 13 years old and we be doing an assembly for our students.

We also have the author Gary Hogg coming to do small workshops with the kids on Friday. Tomorrow I will be sending home a flier with information about Gary’s books. If you choose to buy some, he will take some time Friday to sign the copies you buy.
Both of these are great opportunities for the students in writing.

Wednesday is our Get Down and Dirty with Montessori Materials night. All the information on this is in the post prior to this one. Remember it is an adults only night. We would love to see you all there.

Don’t forget that Friday is an early out day. Please make sure your child is picked up at 1 that day.

Enjoy the rest of your night.

Get Down and Dirty with Montessori Materials

Get Down And Dirty

With the

Montessori Materials

Maria Montessori Academy

Wednesday November 12, 2014

6:30-8:30

Have you ever wondered why your child is playing with beads all day, what snake game is, or how a checkerboard teaches multiplication? Join us for an evening of getting “down and dirty” with the Montessori materials.  Bring your adult friends and neighbors for an opportunity to experience math, language and science, as you never have before! All of our teachers will be here to give lessons and answer questions related to the MMA curriculum.

Try your hand at balancing algebra and using test tube to do long division in a way that will blow your mind. See the transition of the math materials from preschool through the junior high level and learn about how our beads actually help us understand the square root of numbers!

Watch the progression of the grammar materials; from common and proper nouns to prepositional phrases. Discover the meaning of etymology and see how it can actually be fun! See why our children LOVE to learn! Participate in hands-on science and social studies lessons that will solidify your understanding of microorganisms, invertebrates, the rock-cycle, electricity and more!

This evening will be an open house event from 6:30-8:30 but we suggest coming early because we know, that just like the children, you won’t want to leave when it’s over. Remember this is an adult-only night for MMA parents and other community members.

We look forward to sharing our passion for education with you and we know that you’ll learn something new!

November is Here

November is here. I can hardly believe it. This year has gone by so fast already.

In level 3 dance on studio Fridays, we have been learning the dance, Thriller. We preformed the dance for lower el Friday. They did so well, I am so proud of them all. We plan on preforming it at the International Festival as well. This will allow parents to see it.

Thank you to everyone who helped with our Halloween party by coming, donating, or both. We had such a fun time.

Home projects are due this week. Please let me know if there is any reason your child will not be able to get theirs done this week and we can work something out.

Wednesday, November 12 from 6:30-8:30 is our Get Down and Dirty with Montessori Materials night. This will be an ADULTS ONLY night were you can come and learn more about our language, math, and science materials.

Friday, November 14 will be a half day for teacher development. Please arrange for your child to be picked up at 1 pm that day.

Enjoy your evening.
