Valentine Boxes

Hello,

We did not get a chance to decorate Valentine boxes today. We will take the last 30 minutes of work cycle tomorrow to decorate them. If your child wants to decorate a box here at school they need to bring their own box, one will not be provided for them. Your child does not need to have a box for our Valentine party. It is their choice to make one or not. They can also make one at home and bring it to school Thursday.

Don’t forget about the sign up for helping with the party. It is to the right of the blog.

It’s Earth Day Everyday

Happy Saturday Everyone!

Just wanted to share this picture of some of our class friends. They took it upon themselves to clean up our school grounds during recess. They were not asked or expected to do this but chose to. They did it during our recess and free time we had one day and have been doing it every recess ever since. A big thanks to these friends and the ones not pictured that have been helping out.

Just a reminder that parent teacher conferences are this coming Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 1:30 to 7. There are still plenty of sign up spots. Here is the link http://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/fwijs. If you are unable to make it this week please let me know so we can set up a different time that will work better for you. Please bring your child with you as they will be helping present the conference. There will also be a book fair in the library during these days. It will be from 1-6.

We will NOT be having school this Friday or next Monday the 16th. We will be having our Valentine party this coming Thursday. Your child can bring Valentine cards and treats for the class if they would like. If your child brings candy, please have it in a sealed white envelope. We have 28 students and two teachers in our class. There is a class list in a previous post if you want to address the cards with the students’ names. The easiest thing to do is only put who it is from. This makes passing out the cards go much faster. Your child can also bring a box to put the cards in if they want. We will be taking some time Monday afternoon to decorate boxes if they want to bring it to school and do it. Cereal boxes work great. There is a sign up to help with the party or donate things to the left of the blog or in a previous post.

We have our field trip to the planetarium a week from Wednesday. I will be having you sign the permission slips at conferences. If you are not signed up by Monday afternoon, I will send the slip home with your child. These must be returned no later than this Thursday the 12th.

Home projects were supposed to be due the week after conferences. However, I realized that we won’t have Monday or Wednesday to present them that week so if your child brings them in the week after, that will be fine. I sent a pink paper home with the person your child is assigned to do. If you do not have this paper let me know and I will get you another. This paper does not need to be filled out. It has things on it I would like included in the project.

Valentine Party

The classroom Valentine’s Party will be Friday, February 13th from 10-11:30 am.  We will be having four stations.  They will be:
Food Station – Pancakes
Game Station – Cupid’s Arrow Game
Craft Station – Heart Leis
Card-making Station – Decoder Cards

Home Project Clarification

Just a clarification on the home project. I sent home pink papers with the students. It is helpful to fill this out but you can do more than just that. Help your student make something creative to present to the class. Examples are posters, powerpoints, flip charts.

Valentine’s List

Just an update on doing the Valentine’s. If you include treats with the cards, please put them in a sealed envelope. You can choose to include who the card is to, or you can just leave them nameless with only who the card is from. This is usually the easiest way to do it but I know some students like to pick out certain cards for certain students. We have 28 students plus Ms. Marleen and myself. Missed the Weekend

Hello,

I am so sorry I didn’t get the blog updated over the weekend. Between the Utah Montessori Conference and the Superbowl, I didn’t get it done. I also apologize because we have a lot of updates.

I know we are half way through the year and it is tempting to slack off on things, but it is really important to stay on top of things and continue on like it is the beginning of the year. One specific thing Ms. Marleen and I have noticed we could improve on is the dress code. Here is the link for the dress full dress code: Dress-Code-Policy-MMA-signed-04.08.14. It is only two pages and does not take long to read. Please go over this and familiarize yourself with it. One of the main issues we’ve seen are with bottoms.

Bottoms
Color: Any solid color.
Material: Cotton, twill, corduroy.
Style: Plain, pleated, cargo; no sagging or baggy pants.
Skirts/jumpers/shorts: Pleated or straight; hemlines should fall below fingertips when arms are extended down sides of body. Leggings must be worn with skirts/dresses.
Tights/hose/leggings: Solid colors only; leggings may be worn under skirts/dresses/skorts.

Please make sure that skirts and jumpers are long enough and that the bottoms are the right material.

We have drawn names for our home projects. I sent home pink papers last week with the name of your student’s person. If your child was not here and did not get a paper, I will be sending those home tomorrow with them.

Our field trip is coming up on Wednesday the 18. We are going to the Clark Planetarium. We will be taking Trax and Frontrunner. Please have your child at the Frontrunner station on Wall Street at 7:40 that morning. We will be arriving back at about 2:50 that afternoon. We had a few openings for parents to be guaranteed a spot to watch the IMAX film with our class. These have been filled. We would still love it if you wanted to come. Just please let me know if you are coming.

Parent teacher conferences are next week. They will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday starting at 1:30. These are also short days. Please make sure you have arrange to have your child picked up at 1. I have the sign up sheets for you. The conferences will be every half hour. We are working on some things for your students to show you. Please bring your child with you if you are able. It is such a great experience for them to lead the conference. Last thing. Jr. High is selling carnations for Valentine’s Day. A pink paper was sent home with the information today.

We will also be having a Valentine’s party next Thursday, the 12th. I will have more info on volunteering for that soon. Your child can also bring Valentine’s for everyone if they choose. Please have the card/treat/gift in a sealed envelope. We will be taking some time Monday afternoon to decorate boxes at school if the students would like to. The best box I have found for this is a cereal box. You can send the box anytime you would like. Your student can also make one at home or not make one if they choose.

Project, PTC, Field Trip

Happy Friday All,

I apologize, I didn’t get the names drawn for our home projects. We will do this Monday after lunch. The projects will still be due the week after conferences. That is the week of February 16.

Parent Teacher Conferences are Tuesday, February 10, Wednesday, February 11, and Thursday, February 12. These will be half days so school will end at 1. We will have no school the following Friday and we have Monday, February 16 off for Presidents day. Conference sign-ups will be available soon.

We will be taking a field trip with Ms. Kaley Parson’s class on Wednesday, February 18. We will be going to Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake and we will be taking the Front Runner and Trax. We will be seeing a movie in the IMAX theater and seating is limited. ALl parents are invited to come; however, not all may be allowed to see the movie with us. We do have a limited number of seats available for parents. If you would like to come, please let me know ASAP. This will be first come first serve. Admittance to the planetarium is free.

No School Monday

Good Afternoon,

Just a reminder that we will not be having school on Monday. It is Martin Luther King Jr. day.

Our next home project is coming up. Since February is Black History Month, yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, and Monday is MLK day, we will be doing a report on a famous African American from history. We will draw names for this on Tuesday. I will send a paper home with your student telling you who they have drawn. This paper will also include any information that should be on the report. These will be do the week after conferences, February 16th. However, if your child gets finished early, they may bring their report in and present it before.

Just some upcoming things for next month. Parent Teacher Conferences will be Tuesday February 10, Wednesday February 11, and Thursday February 12. Monday will be a full day but Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of that week will be half days. We will have no school on Friday, February 13. Sign-ups for conferences will be up in the next week or two.

Level 3s will be doing their SAGE writing test on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 17. A more detailed email will follow for all level 3 parents.

We will be going on a field trip to Clark Planetarium on Thursday, February 18. We love having parents come. If you are able to come, please let me know ASAP. We will be seeing the film Hidden Universe in the IMAX theatre there. The first 10 parents to RSVP will get a discounted ticket and a guaranteed seat in the theater. We will be taking the Frontrunner and Trax like we did last year so as a parent you will need to pay for that ticket for yourself. We will have free wristbands for the students.
