Good morning,

Flyers will be coming home announcing Picture Day at MMA.  Pictures will be October 22nd.

Also, don’t forget that this Friday, October 11th is our field trip.  Those planning on joining us and riding the frontrunner should be at the train station no later than 8:20 (or earlier).  I will have our wristbands with me that morning.  The frontrunner will leave promptly at 8:30.  If you or your student misses the train, you will need to either bring your student to the school or plan on dropping them off at the Clark Planetarium.  Thank you for all that you do for the success of your students.

Ms. Shauna and Ms. Misha

Hello,

As a reminder, our field trip to the Planetarium is this Friday.  Your child will need to be at the station no later than 8:15.  We will gather as a class before we board the train.  Our tram will leave promptly at 8:36.  Any students not present at that time will be left behind and will either not be with us or will have to be dropped off at the planetarium.   If you are already planning on meeting us there, please let me know so that I am not worried about where you might be.  If you will be going with us on the trip from the station, please make sure that you get a wristband from me before boarding.  Our transportation is paid for, but everyone must have a wristband to enjoy our ride into Salt Lake.   If you are planning on joining us at the I-Max theatre, you must pay your $6.00 (if I had you down before October 1st).   As always, I look forward to seeing you and having you with us.

If your child has yet to turn in a permission slip, please get that in ASAP.  Any students not having those in will not be joining us on this field trip.

Thank you for all you do.

Ms. Shauna

Hello,

I just wanted to give everyone here a reminder that there are lots of upcoming events this week and next.  All students planning on attending the field trip next Friday at the Planetarium MUST have their permission slips turned in no later than Friday.  This allows the office to get things turned around and ready to give to the Field Trip Coordinator.   Those of you planning on accompanying us on the trip must have either done the background checks or just plan on accompanying your own child.  I don’t have an updated list of the background checks.  It is a good idea for everyone to get one though.  It helps us know you and know that you are supporting our efforts for safe schools.  If you plan on going on the field trip and will be going to watch the Lemur movie with us, please plan on the $6.00 for the movie.  We look forward to having you with us.

This Friday, October 4th is our Fall Carnival.  We are excited to have you join us.  Please, bring your family, friends, and neighbors.  More volunteers are needed for the success of this event.  If you have a few spare minutes, MAPA would love your help.  The carnival will begin at 4pm and end at 7PM.  This is a fun family event and should be shared with many.  We love our families and want you to have a great time while you spread the word about our school.   I hope to see you there.

Home projects:  Home projects are coming due.  As I have spoken with some of the students, they say they have not yet started.  If not, this is the week.  We will start presentations for these next week.  If you have questions regarding what those are, please do not wait to ask.

Have an amazing week

Sunday notes

I hope this finds you well.  Just a reminder that there are several activities this week.  MAPA will be out and about on Friday and needs your support.  They will be handing out muffins on Friday the 27th of September.  They will be out during drop-off and pick-up.  This Friday is an early release day for all students.  The school will dismiss at 1:00 pm for faculty and staff PD day.  In the previous blog, the cover letter was information for everyone to have when students attend our field trip.  I will be sending out permission slips no later than this Friday.  I will be out of the classroom tomorrow attending to my daughter.

I just want to add how much I have enjoyed getting to know your students.  They have come in eager to learn new skills and I am excited to be able to work with them on these new skills.  We are working on math and lots of reading.  One of the things that we have that is new to everyone this year is something called Reading Horizons.  This way of learning is working similarly to our Grammar lessons.  The students are learning about marking vowels and how different vowel sounds look and how it affects a word.   (Pictures to be added soon)

Many of you have asked about spelling lists.  If one thing that I have learned is that random spelling lists are not as effective as words the students are working on.  They do need to learn how to spell, but with a purpose.  As an example, if a student is working on a project, the words in that project become important.  At that time, it is when we work in spelling as well as how the word is spelled and the whys it is spelled that way.  The reason for this is that children up to the age of 8 and 9 are still working on phonemic awareness.  They are still working on spelling and figuring out all of the different ways to spell words.  By the end of the 3rd year, I hope to see that many of the spelling errors have been corrected and reasons behind the spelling.  If you would like to work on spelling with your student, I have no objections.  I will not be giving a weekly spelling test, however.   I am happy to send home a list of need to know words and have them work on those at home.  I will do anything to help support you in what you do at home.  I feel that those associations that we make at home and at school are never lost and build upon each other.

A weekly insight

Hello, all of you wonderful people.

I am writing this to make sure that those of you on the blog know that tomorrow (September 17, 2019) MMA will be a hosting site for live fingerprinting and background checks.  If you have not had this done before, now is a great time.  This service is normally offered only through the landed districts.  MMA is moving toward having all parents who will be working with students have a background check.  That includes those parents who will accompany us on field trips.  We love having our parents with us.  However, it is in the best interest of all parents to get a background check and clearance.  It is for everyone’s safety and is also a wonderful way to continue to support our school by being able to be in classrooms as well as accompany us on field trips.  There is no way to make all of that work without you.

Many of you have asked about upcoming events  One event that we will be having at school is the boostathon.  I believe that this event will take place in November.  However, you should have received a flyer from the office regarding T-shirts.  This was a great deal for everyone.  The MAPA (MMA’s version of PTA is wanting all students to have a t-shirt.   This helps us as a school in being united for the same goals.  If you have not filled out the paper for an MMA t-shirt, I highly encourage you to do so.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.  I value you as parents and always strive to work together with you as a team for the growth, well-being, and learning that takes place as a team member for your students.

Don’t forget our home projects will be due soon!

Snack Sign-up

Hello,

I wanted to let you know who has signed up for snack for the next couple of weeks.

Week of  Sep 16-20  Karlie

Week of Sep 23-27 – Jachob

Week of  Sep 30 – Oct 4 – Keira

Thank you for all you do!  The children are enjoying putting the snack together and using math skills to figure out how much each person gets.

Ms. Shauna and Ms. Misha

Greetings and Salutations,

I wanted to make everyone aware that is on this blog that I will try and find the link for Track it Forward.  I was initially not signed up as a teacher and am still not sure that I am.  I am looking for the list for snack.  I know it was full.  If you have not brought in a snack and would like to bring one in, snacks are always welcome.  The students have been enjoying a bounty of fresh fruits, cheese, and crackers.   They even have picked some of the grapes outside our school.  I was not aware we had grapes until this past Tuesday.  Apparently, they are delicious as I saw several students enjoying them.

We will soon be coming to the end of our normalization period.  What that means is that students are approaching normalization.  There will still be some students who will continue to work on self-regulation skills as well as working on working in the classroom.  For some this is immediate, for others it takes longer.  Students are allowed to take their skills and expand them.

Clark Planetarium: Our field trip will be here soon.  I am needing at least one other chaperone.  If you are willing to accompany us and are willing to pay $6.00, please let me know ASAP.  I am excited to go to the planetarium here.  I have been to Rexburg, ID, and San Antonio, TX, but not here.

Have a wonderful week,

Ms Shauna
