Week of March 16; 2020

Hello Parents,

Please read the orange flyer that was sent home on Friday for the PM children and that will be sent home on Monday for the AM children. It has important information regarding COVID-19 and how it is affecting our school at this time.

This week we will continue to learn how to synergize or work together (Habit 6), we will learn about some of the people that live in the mountains of Asia, learn about the parts of an amphibian, learn the parts of a seed, work with levers, and do some art with texture.

Have a great weekend!

Hello Parents,

This Thursday, March 12 we will be having our class pictures taken for the yearbook. Please make a special effort to have your child honoring our dress code (solid colored collared shirts, clothes free of holes, etc.)  Also, please make an effort to have your child here at school on time so they can be included in the class photo; this is especially important for the PM class because we our scheduled soon after the children arrive.

Week of March 9, 2020

Hello,

We finished our first week of introductions with our new themes on Habit 6 (Synergize), Asia, Mountains, Amphibians, Seeds, Simple Machines, and Texture in art. Our kindergarten friends got to shadow in a lower elementary classroom to get an idea of what first grade will be like. Most of our friends came back happy and excited about the experience.

This will be a short week for students. The children will  come to school Monday -Thursday. Friday is a Professional Development day for teachers, there will be NO SCHOOL for students on Friday, March 13.  This week we will introduce Vincent van Gogh; learn about some of the plants and animals living in the mountains of Asia; learn about the life cycle of an amphibian; and learn about levers.

We want to thank all who contributed to our Gala basket. We had many wonderful donations.  The basket (crate) looks AMAZING!  It will be a desired basket to add to the auction.  Also, thank you parents for all other donations of snack , time, and other things we ask for. We appreciate all you do!

Thanks again,

Ma. Martha & Ms. Valerie

Week of February 18, 2020

Hello Parents,

Thank you so much for all the many ways you support us! Thanks to all who helped in any way to make our Valentine’s celebration special. The children seemed to enjoy their waffle, fruit, and whipping cream snack and being able to pour their own juice etc. They used good manners as they sat with a few other peers eating their snack. They were also excited to pass out their Valentines. This is a fun day for these little children, so thank you for helping to make it special! Thank you also for all the yummy treats and other gifts. We appreciate your generosity.

This week for our biome study as we learn about oceans, we will be learning a bit about three of the major zones. We will learn about the sunlight zone, the twilight zone and the midnight zone. We will talk about the animals and plants that live in the different zones along with other interesting facts. This week we talked about different types of fish rather than the parts of a fish like I said in the blog last week, so this week we will learn about the different parts of a fish. We will do some more science experiments with sink and float. We just learned about buoyancy and are experimenting with different shapes of foil boats; this week we will learn more about density. In art we will introduce Pablo Picasso.

Remember there will be no school on Monday, February 17 for President’s Day. Enjoy this extra time with your family. On Friday, February 21 you can take your family skating at Classic Skating from 5-9 pm. This is always a fun activity that our families look forward to each year. Also, mark your calendar for Saturday, March 21 for the Gala. We have received some donation already to put toward our classroom’s basket, but we are still hoping to have more donations come in. If you have not had a chance to sign up but would like to, you can either sign up for something on the track it forward page, or you can donate some other thing of your choice that has to do with school; and then just bring it in when you drop your child off. Here is the link for the Gala basket- https://www.trackitforward.com/site/389525/event/527346

Thank you again for all you do! Have a wonderful weekend!

Week of February 10. 2020

Week of February 10, 2020

Hello Parents,

Thank you to all who helped with our 100th day party in any way. It was a fun day. For our AM kids, that day came a day later than expected, but was a wonderful day. We are now looking forward to our Valentine’s Day activities which will be held on Friday, February 14. As a reminder from a previous post, we are in the process of decorating our Valentine sacks here at school. The children may pass out Valentine’s cards if they would like. However, if you are sending your child with Valentines to deliver, please just address them by who they are from, and not designate who they are going to. We will have someone help them “drop” their Valentine in the sacks of all the other children. We have 24 students in the AM class and 12 students in the PM class. Also, to incorporate the Montessori grace and courtesy as part of Early Childhood’s traditional Valentine celebration, we will have a formal snack on this day. The students will help set the tables with cloth tablecloths. They will arrange the flowers for the center of the table and serve each other.  We talk about what kind of manners people use at a restaurant like putting their napkins on their laps and not talking with their mouth full.  The kids love this tradition.  We will be having waffles with fruit and whipped cream.  We will be needing a little help on this day as well as some donations. Here are the links to sign up-

Afternoon class-   https://www.trackitforward.com/site/389525/event/527656

This week we will introduce Habit 5 (from The 7 Habits of Happy Kids), “Think first to Understand, Then to be Understood”. When you think about ways we communicate, have you noticed that in school we learn to read, write, and speak, but we don’t learn to listen. In habit 5 we will learn how to listen, not only with our ears, but also with our eyes and heart. For our biome study, we will continue to learn about the oceans; their names, locations, and some of the characteristics of each ocean. In biology, we will learn the parts of a fish and their purposes. In science, we will experiment with the effects of water and learn to make predictions. Finally, on Friday, we will have some fun, yet meaningful Valentine’s Day activities. It will be a great week!

Share the Love Day at MMA

Also on Friday, February 14, we will be holding a “Share the Love” day at MMA. There will be tours and presentations with Support Staff. Students not currently attending our school may come with their parents to tour the school and observe a classroom. Please share this information with your family and friends. We have a great school and we want to share it with others. Here is the link where they can RSVP-  https://forms.gle/c55cn76RkRAYryRL8

Thank you for your continued support! Have a fabulous week!

Thanks for helping and more help needed

Hello Parents,

Thank you for your help and contributions for our 100th day celebration.! It was a lot of fun! We cannot do these fun activities without your help. The children all counted to 100 by ones and by tens. Some needed a bit of help, but many did it all on their own. Great job !

Looking ahead at our Valentine’s party, we will be eating on cloth table cloths, but need someone that knows how to sew, to cut down some big tablecloths and then hem around the edges so we can have small tablecloths. If you have that ability and are willing to do this little project, please let me know and we will send the fabric home with your child so you can get started.

Thanks again for all you do.

Week of February 3, 2020

Hello Parents,

Wow! We will celebrate our 100th day of school on Monday, February 3 and then have just 80 more school days left. Time is going by so quickly. The children are all progressing, and we are getting more and more students bringing books home to read. We are now requiring the kindergarten children to do at least two challenging works before going out to recess. After a while, we will try to get to three challenging works each day to help prepare them for lower elementary. Please help to reinforce the idea of putting first things first and doing the important things right away.

This month our habit (from The 7 Habits of Happy Kids) will be “Think first to Understand, Then to be Understood”. We will also be learning about oceans; fish will be the vertebrate we will study; we will do water experiments for science; learn about the element of line in art and have Pablo Picasso as our featured artist.

Valentine’s Day-

Looking ahead, we will have our Valentine’s party on Friday, February 14. We will be decorating Valentine sacks in class. The children may pass out Valentine’s cards if they would like. However, if you are sending your child with Valentines to deliver please just address them by who they are from not designating who they are going to (this makes delivery much easier 😉). We are still in need of items to be donated for our Gala basket. The 10th annual Maria Montessori Gala will be held March 21 at 6:30 pm at the Timbermine. There will be a dinner, country dance lesson, silent auction, art auction, and raffles. Each class has been asked to provide something for the art auction as well as a basket to auction off. Our class will make up a basket with the theme “1st grade, here I come!” If you are able to help with this, it would be greatly appreciated. We are asking that the items be delivered to the classroom by Friday, February 21st. Please note that all items should be new. If you need any more info for the description, or have any further questions, please contact Andrea McMahan at 951-634-7566. Here is the link to sign up to help with the Gala basket- https://www.trackitforward.com/site/389525/event/527346

Please know how much we appreciate all that you do with your generous contributions of time, talents, and other means which allows us to do these fun activities. Thank you! Have a wonderful weekend!

Week of January 27, 2020

Hello Parents,

This week we will be finishing up our unit studies on Habit 4, Antarctica, mammals, weather, the element of shape, and our featured artist, Henri Matisse.

There will be a Chili Cook-off on Thursday, January 30 from 5:30-7:00. It is all you can eat for $5, children under five eat free.

Looking ahead- On Monday, February 3, we will celebrate our 100th day of school. We have been counting the days of school from the beginning and have been looking forward to this day. This is a big deal for us! There will be activities going on in each of the Early Childhood classrooms and the children will be free to move about between the two rooms as they would like. One of the activities each student will do on this day is to come out in the hall to count with me.  One of the Math standards for kindergarten is for students to be able to count to 100 by 1’s and by 10’s.  We have been practicing all year but a little practice at home would be great! To make this day a success, we are in need of some help.  Here is the link to sign up if you are able to help.
