Final week of school!

Dear Parents,

Thank you for all your support for our class party last Thursday.  It was a super success.  The kids had a wonderful time.  We truly appreciate all the generous contributions we’ve received for our class this year….snack, supplies, excellent presentations, support for class parties, and so many other things.  Thank you so very much!  We absolutely love each of your children and are so proud of them.

Here is the schedule for the last week of school—

Monday:  Memorial Day– no school.

Tuesday:  Bridging Ceremony for third graders at 11:30.  Parents of third graders are invited to attend.  We will be having the ceremony outside (weather permitting).  You are welcome to bring a chair or blanket to sit on.  After the ceremony we will be having a picnic lunch outside.   Our students will be welcomed into upper- el by Ms. Stephaney’s class.   (FYI–this does not mean your child will be in her class next year. Class lists for next year have not been finalized.)  The ceremony will be held in the gym if it is raining.

Wednesday:  Crazy hair/hat day.

Thursday: Crazy sock day

Friday:  Dress down day. Students may wear jeans, t-shirts, or other casual styles.  We will also be doing yearbook signing.

All days will be early-out due to Parent teacher conferences.  School will dismiss at 1pm.

Thank you again for a wonderful year and have a lovely Memorial Day weekend,

Ms. Krista

Spelling words and elephant toothpaste

We had a fun science presentation today from one of our students and all the kids wanted to know how to do it at home.  I told them I would post it on the blog.  Here it is:

Elephant Toothpaste–

Put 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide in an empty plastic water bottle and pour in 4 drops of food coloring and a squirt of dish soap. In a separate container mix 1 T. yeast with 3 T. water.  Using a funnel, pour the yeast mixture into the water bottle.  (Make sure the water bottle is in a large bowl–it will spill over!)

Spelling words for this week-

Level 1: long, strong, tongs, gong, song, honk

Level 2: people, family, character, American, myself, yourself, group, author, parents, individuals,

Level 3: convince, prepare, observe, enter, support, consider, compare, remain, spoke, exercise, separate, continue, charge, empty, repeat

Europe projects

Dear Parents,

We will be doing one final project.  Since we have been studying Europe this past semester all the kids are eager to present a country of their choice.  Some students have chosen to do the same country or work together on a project.  I’ve encouraged them to bring anything they have (souvenirs, clothing, art, music, etc.) or can make (food, craft, etc.) from their chosen country.  If your child was not here today please let me know which country they would like to do.  It is alright if they choose a country that’s already been chosen.  We will have the presentations on May 14 and 15.
