Dear Early Childhood Families,
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! You, as the parents of a Montessori child, are doing an amazing job (even if that means that you have not done very much). We know how hard this is and we appreciate the support and time you are giving to your child. One of the things we felt like was missing from the packets/resources we provided for the past 2 weeks was the opportunity to give the jumping off point for many of our lessons. For our students this is often their first formal experience with studying certain topics. We want this to be a positive experience, even if it is not the normal I think most of us really miss by now. That being said we will be trying ZOOM for daily group lessons. These lessons will not be long (15-20 minutes). The resources and paperwork will go along with what we talk about in our group lessons. If you are not able to join the lesson live don’t worry, it will be recorded so it can be viewed at the most convenient time for your schedule. We felt like there was a lot of confusion about how things were working during the past 2 weeks. We apologize, this is new to us as well. We will post all additional ZOOM meeting links along with a google doc explaining what assignments there are and how to do them on our classroom blogs. There will also be a packet of work that needs to be picked up from the school beginning on Monday April 6th after spring break. In an effort to get everyone who is reading new Sam books for the month of April, please drop off the Sam books that you were given (if you are ready for new ones) by Friday March 27. We encourage you to be mindful of your child’s needs as well as your own. We will be here to support you, Ms. Jen & Ms. Martha will be available Monday through Friday 9:30 to 10:30 am via phone or email. We want to help you in your social distancing. We will let you know what assignments need to be turned in. You can email copies of these to your child’s teacher rather than dropping them off at the school.

I know that the email that was sent out by the administration looked terrible and was really hard to read. Hopefully by providing access to the original google doc will help you. Please be mindful that you do not make changes to the document. This could make it very challenging for everyone else who is trying to read it. There are a few things that I need to clarify. There is a packet at the school for you to pick up for your child. There are several papers that your child will need to be able to complete their work. We asked for work to be turned in each Friday. You only need to turn in paperwork. Don’t worry about turning in anything else. You are welcome to scan in the paperwork and email it to me if you don’t want to drive it into the school. Please don’t hesitate to email me with questions.

Here are the new subjects we will be learning about in March
Geography – Asia & Mountain biome
Zoology – Amphibians
Botany – Seeds
Art – Element of texture
The next habit of happy kids we will talk about is synergize. We will be focusing on Together Is Better. This means that we value other people’s strengths and learn from them. we work at getting along well with others, even people who are different than me. We seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems because we know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than anyone of us can alone.
Remember that there is no school on Friday for professional development. Parents we are running low on snack. If you have not taken the opportunity to sign up for snack this year we have several slots open. Please remember that you are signing up to bring snack for the whole week, not just 1 day. Our annual gala is coming up in March. Our wonderful room parents are putting together a basket that will be auctioned off at this event. The theme for our class basket is family game night
We need your support to gather items to fill the gift basket for the Kindergarten class. Items such as snacks, board and card games as well as outdoor family fun are all great items to bring in. Do you know someone who runs a local business that can donate some items? Ask! All items are due by March 6th to be included in the basket.
You can bring all donations into the classroom and I will pass them onto our room parents.

This week is literacy week. There is several great things going on this week. We will kick off literacy week with a read-a-thon. Our schedule will be a little different from the rest of the school. The morning class will have their read-a-thon from 10:30 to 11:00 am. The afternoon class will have their read-a-thon from 2:00 to 2:30. Please send your child with a few (2 or 3) of their favorite books. We are asking that you leave all pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals at home. On Wednesday your student can bring a picture of their favorite book. The pictures will be hung up outside our classroom for the other students to see. Thursday night is our family literacy night. The event goes from 5:30 to 7:00. We encourage you to bring friends and family to this fun night. Students will have a chance to earn a dress down day on Friday by participating in this event. Friday is our community reader day. We would love to have you or a family member come in and share your favorite childhood book. If you are interested in doing this please email me so we can coordinate a time.
This week we will finish up our studies of the ocean biome, fish and the element of line.
