Dear Parents,

I will be providing resources to help prevent summer slide, in reading, and in math. I will give you a hard copy at conferences, in addition to a digital copy on the blog.

Reading Resources- Reading 20 minutes a day will make a HUGE difference! Please take the time to set a routine to read, with your child. During breakfast, before bed, get creative! Also, use the guide for choosing a just right book. We want students to have a balance of challenge, without too much intimidation. We want to make it fun and enjoyable!

Math- just 10 minutes of math fact practice a day. Make a game out of it. Time your child, turn cards upside down, and answer the ones you know first. Students will be making their own flash cards, during the week. They will bring them home the last day of school. Here are copies, if they get lost or misplaced. I have assigned the level 1’s addition and subtraction. The level 2’s and 3’s, multiplication and division.

Just a half hour a day, to make a difference to our students in the next grade!

Going on vacation? Great. Check out some books from the local library, and pack their bag of facts. Ask older siblings to quiz them on the road! I am really looking forward to what the next year brings! I appreciate all of your positive and encouraging support!

Thanks,

Miss Elise

Dear Parents,

Here is a wonderful resource for summer reading. It makes a HUGE difference when students consistently read in the summer. Please use this resource, or come up with a schedule of your own, to keep your child reading! We will discuss this more at conferences.

Students in our class participating in honor choir are: Jenna Poon and Skyler Morgan

May 19th:

Spring Choir Concert

Those with last names that start with the letters A-K will come to the 6 o’clock performance.

Those with last names that start with the letters L-Z will come to the 7 o’clock performance.

The concert will only be about 30-35 minutes long.  All the children are encouraged to come, but not required.  The children should wear their nicest clothes…

Proper concert dress:  Sunday (wedding, funeral) best…Ties and collared, button up shirt, perhaps suspenders, or Dresses (not showing shoulders or back) with leggings or tights (no bare legs).  They do not need to have a collar on the dresses.  Of course they are encouraged to find these items but, they are not required.  They do not necessarily need to be school dress code, but appropriate and not distracting for the event.

The idea is to keep families together to watch their upper and lower Elementary children together.  If they have multiple last names of multiple children that are assigned to come at different times…they can choose which one they attend…this should only effect a couple of families.  I would encourage their whole family to all go to the 7:00 pm performance.  It seems there is more room at that time.  Again, the families only need to go to one performance.  They aren’t invited to go to both just to watch, they need to go to just one because of space limitations.
