Just wanted to let you know about a couple upcoming field trips. I will be getting you more details and a permission slip as they get a little closer. These field trips are both planned to meet many science standards the children have for their grade level and are extremely fun. The kids look forward to them all year.

JA Biz Town- 5th grade

The fifth graders have an upcoming field trip to JA Biz Town on Tuesday, March 10th. This is an amazing field trip that they look forward to. They can’t wait to be fifth graders so they can go. While there they each have jobs, get paid, and run different business throughout the day. They have to get loans, deposit checks, use debit cards, and budget their money. This is a field trip we need parent drivers for. You will have to coordinate a ride for your child with other parents. We also need a couple parents to come and stay the day and help run a business. If you are interested in doing that let me know. You have to be approved and given a little instruction and we only have a few openings. It is a really fun time and every parent that has gone has really enjoyed the experience.

Clark Planetarium- 6th grade

This is a 6th grade field trip. It will be Wednesday, March 11th. We will be taking the Frontrunner down to SLC and returning the same way. While we are there we learn about the solar system and everything in it . We also get the opportunity to see the Dome show and the Science at the Globe presentation. There is a gift shop there if you would like to send money with your child, but it not required.

Updates

Please remember, unless there is extreme cold weather, we will be going outside everyday; even in the rain and snow. Please send your children with appropriate clothing everyday.

Just a reminder, 5th and 6th graders should be working on their science fair and engineering fair projects. Since I was sick last week I didn’t get each child checked in with their January 9th due date assignment. Sorry about that. I am asking that everyone have it done this Friday the 17th instead. Thanks for your patience.

Don’t forget to enroll your child for the next school year this week before open enrollment starts.

We are having a good time this month learning about Ancient Egypt, the weather cycle, and climate patterns. Ask your child what they are learning to have a relay fun conversation. A lot of them are really excited about Ancient Egypt and they know a ton about water transfer and the different forces that effect the water cycle.

Just a reminder we are having our class party on Thursday. We are having a read-a-thon and then having snacks and playing board games. Your child has signed up to bring a snack to share and can tell you what it is. The children have been begging me to let them do a Secret Santa gift exchange so today we drew names. If you would like your child excluded from participating just send me a quick email and I will take them off the list. Their gift shouldn’t be more than 5 or 10 dollars. Thanks again for all you do and it’s been great seeing so many of you at parent teacher conferences.

Aspire account

Our deadline for online Aspire accounts is quickly approaching. Re-registration for current students for the 2020-2021 school year starts January 6.  In order for parents to register their students for next year they MUST have an online account by December 20th. As of this morning, most families have not yet signed up. Please sign up before Winter Break so the office can answer any questions you may have or get your child’s student number for you (due to privacy laws we cannot send student numbers through email).
Instructions to create an Aspire account can be found here.

Parent Teacher Conferences Sign-ups

I have put the sign-ups for Parent Teacher Conferences on Track-it-forward. They are on December 17th, 18th, and 19th. Please sign up for a conference slot. This is a child led conference so please make sure that your child attends. Your child will be presenting information to you about their year so far. In order to respect the time and work your student put into their portfolio and presentation, please do not have siblings in the classroom.

Holiday Party

Our class holiday party will be Thursday December 19th. We’re having a read-a-thon and a board game party.  They may bring a blanket and a book for the read-a-thon (or read a book from school) and bring a board game or card game to play as well. We also have a couple board games here at school. They also all signed up to bring a snack to eat throughout the day. Ask your child what they signed up for or bring another delicious treat to share.
Early out
Remember Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are all early out days so we can have Parent Teacher Conferences. School is dismissed at 1PM.  Please be on time picking up your children so we can be prepared for Parent Teacher Conferences which start right after school. Remember there is no school on Friday as well.  Hope you have an amazing break!

Gratitude Feast

Thank you to everyone who helped out and participated in our classroom Gratitude Feast. We had an amazing time. We had such a fun time I even forgot to take pictures. Sorry! We had great food, made a gratitude tree, and worked on gratitude journals, which we will be continuing the rest of the school year. A lot of children wanted Sophia’s recipe for Wassail so I am posting it here for everyone.

Simmer all these for 1 hour then add

I have had several parents ask about needed school supplies or a wish list for our classroom so I put one together on Amazon. Prices may have gone up or down since I put them on the list so the items could be purchased anywhere at a cheaper price or a comparable item. Thanks again for all the help and support you give to our class.

Gratitude Feast
With the International Festival taking up so much time I decided to postpone our Gratitude Feast till this month so we didn’t overwhelm everyone. The Gratitude Feast will be on Tuesday, December 10th at 11:45 to 12:30. It is NOT a party. We will be doing a gratitude project that morning and then have a meal together as a class at 11:45. Home Project
The December and Jaunary home project is the Science Fair for 6th graders, the Engineering Fair for 5th graders, and a group STEM project for the 4th graders. The Science and Engineering Fair is Thursday, January 16, which is in almost 7 weeks.  I am sending home the Rubric for 6th and 5th graders today. The 4th graders will be doing most of their project at school, but I will send home info as needed with assignments or assistance requests. Please let me know if you have any questions.
