NOTICE: The items on this list will be used during the regular school Day. They may be brought from home on a voluntary basis, otherwise they will be furnished by the school.

Supply List—Please include your child’s name on the following items:

• Water bottle with close-able lid. Please make it a water bottle that can be closed easily. Water bottles that students have to unscrew to drink out of are not ideal as the students spill the more often.
• 1 – 1 1/2  inch Presentation View 3 ring binder

• 1 graphing paper composition notebook
• 2 regular composition notebooks
• 2 Primary composition notebooks– 1st and 2nd graders only. Labeled with
name
• Pencil pouch/case
• 1 package of 4-6 glue sticks
• 1 pack washable markers
• Large package of Crayola twist-up colored pencils (not twist-up crayons)
• Head phones-wired (for use with computers)
• Slippers with sturdy soles.  (MMA Parent Handbook: All students need
to have a soft sole shoe/slipper that must be worn at all times while in the
building. The slipper needs to be free from logos, lettering, graphics, sparkles,
sheen, decorative accents, and characters. *Note: a small pattern is acceptable.

—Names not needed on the following items:

• 3 packages wide ruled paper
• Number 2 Ticonderoga pencils (I know this is specific and this brand tends to
be more expensive, but the quality of these pencils makes up for it. They last
longer and do not break as easily.)
• 1 package fine- point dry-erase markers
• Optional-wooden or plastic clipboard, regular paper sized
• 1 large container antibacterial wipes
• 1 large box of tissues

Please do not send pens for the students to use.

Well the Year is at an End….

This has been an amazing journey !  I attended a Montessori Training to gain a little more knowledge for the position I had previously  and knew that I wanted to be involved with teaching children the Montessori Way.  A position opened as a TA for Ms. Jill and soon after the opening for the Lead.

I have loved being with your children this year and have learned so much . I am excited to continue this journey with your children next year and Know that we will learn so much from EACH OTHER!  I am loving what I am learning from the training and I am very excited to share that learning in my class.

Hey Folks!

We are winding it up.  Last week we had an amazing Field trip and the kids were awesome! Thank you to all who help chaperone and come on the adventure!!

This week we are continuing with our study of the body.  State research will now be finish at home as a home project for those who have not completed their work.  Look for slips of paper telling what states your student is working on .

Hello Families!!

We are coming to the end.  We are continuing our study on the United States. I will be sending the state research project home to be completed. So please look for that.  In addition we  are also continuing our study on the Human body. Be sure to ask what they are learning .

This Week!!

This Thursday is the Field trip to the Clark Planetarium the following is the schedule for the day.  I have  wristbands for Front Runner  for chaperones for the first 10 who let me know you would like to help out. Please email me  Astoddart@mariamontessoriacademy.org.

  Maria Montessori Academy Field Experience on May 2, 2019

At Discovery Gateway Clark Planetarium 110 400 W. Salt Lake City

The lead instructor is Ms. April; astoddart@mariamontessoriacademy.org

We will participate in interactive displays and a workshop on planets. We will also attend a movie at the Dome theater on extreme space.

• Science and space through interactive displays
• Workshop on planets
• Attend a movie on extreme space

• School uniform
• Sack lunch and water bottle with easy to carry backpack
• Money for gift shop if desired

• 8:10 a.m. – Meet at UTA train station on Wall Ave (2350 Wall Ave) and board Frontrunner. Train leaves at 8:37 a.m.

• Arrive at Clark Planetarium by 9:45 a.m. Explore the planetarium and it’s interactive exibits.

• 10:30 – Participate in Science Around the Sphere.

• 11:30 – Attend a movie at the Dome Theater about deep space. Lunch will be eaten after the movie at the Dome Theater. Students will walk with chaperones to fountain area of the Gateway to enjoy lunch.

• 1:10 p.m. – Leave Clark Planetarium and board frontrunner for ride home. Will arrive back at the station on Wall Ave in Ogden at 2:24 p.m. Parents will need to pick children up there.

Coming up!

Thank you to those who have brought snack to the class. It is very much appreciated. Our snacks are low. If you are able, please sign up in  Track it forward for dates you can bring it in.

Last Week we began our North America studies.  Each child chose a different state they would like to focus on. Lvl 2 and 3 will do a research on their state so please ask and encourage your child by asking what they have learned about their state. Lvl 1’s helped draw the United States and the individual states.  They will be drawing a picture of the flag from the state they have chosen.

We also began our study of the body.  We are going to continue our study this week by looking at the skeletal system.

Hey folks!

We have finished up our Study of South America!  We are moving up to North America next week.  The kids are so excited . When I mentioned our new study, they automatically started shouting out States they wanted to report about.  So…. look forward to helping them at home with that.  As always they will be given some time in class to work on this however they may choose to work on it at home especially if they choose not to at school 😉 . We will also be covering our bodies which is interesting because several of the students checked out Library books about the body during Library time before I told them where our studies would take us…. Very curious…….

Encourage your little peeps to finish strong. Ask them what works they did during the day.  Each day they are given Math works, Spelling, Comprehension, and cultural works to do.  They also have a page of a  DWLM each day, which focuses on state standards for reading, writing and arithmetic. Twice a week they are given writing practice. So you see, they should be busy little bees… We have a few who are struggling to keep their focus on works that need to be done instead of making sure everyone else is doing their job…. … It causes chaos as works tend to not get done that way…..

Thanks again for all of your support as I have jumped into this new adventure.  I am so excited to see where this adventure takes me.  I am currently taking the Montessori training so at times it  is overwhelming.

Field Trip

Hey folks!

WOW!  I combined our two field trips coming up.  I am so sorry for the confusion.   Let me try again…..

We have our next field trip coming up next Thursday, April 18th. It will be a Disney documentary about penguins to celebrate Earth Day. We will meet at the Megaplex theater at the Junction at 8:45 in the morning. You can just drop your children off there instead of school. If you are unable to get your child to the theater that morning, please let me know by emailing me. We will need some certified drivers to transfer children to the theater from the school. The movie will end about 10:30ish. If you are able to transport any children back to the school from the theater please sign up on this wejoinin link: https://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/jsiix.

We will have a Track it Forward link for you to sign your children up for rides back by Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

Unfortunately, we have an extremely limited number of tickets for chaperones. But please put the field trip to Clark Planetarium on Friday, May 3 on your calendars because all parents are welcome to that field trip.

Hey All!!

I hope your spring break was adventerous and you lived it well!  I was able to build a long awaited picnic table with my husband and son, start on some garden planters, put up some faux brick and make progress on our leak in our roof. It was a great break but now we are ready to dive back in and finish strong.

This past month we have been learning about South America, Levels 2-3 Students were given a few weeks to do research in class on a South American country and when finished, present to the class.  There are a few  who need to finish this but those who have, have done a fantastic job! There works are hanging up in the hall.  Level 1 students are creating a puzzle map of the South American Countries that too will be on display. We will be finishing up on the plants and Animals of South America this week. Next week we will be Starting on North America.

I have combined and assigned new groups for the Spelling based on Dr. Seuss. I will send home the spelling lists this week so that you are able to see which group your child is in and so you have the list to encourage them to practice.

Snacks

Thank you to all who have contributed to the snacks!!! I was so amazed with all who have stepped in. It really helps the little ones For concentration and for those who may have missed a breakfast I will now have some extra to help.

Hey Folks!

First of all I want to thank you all for your continued support!  Thank you to Henry’s family for Snack last week.  We are in need of snacks. Please get on Track it forward to sign up .  Your kiddos will very much appreciate the healthy snacks!

We have got a busy week !

We are continuing our study on South America.  Level 1 will make a map of South America and label the countries. Levels 1-2 will pick a South American country to research.

Tuesday is our field trip to the Union Station. We will be leaving the school at 12:30. Jen Whetton  is Kindly helping me out with carpool. If your child needs a ride please let me know so we can make sure all has transportation to and from the field trip.

Tuesday evening…

During literacy week students can bring books for the book swap. This is a great opportunity to share books with one another. Secondly, each student should bring in a picture of the cover of their favorite book to hang on the art strip outside of their classroom. If printing a picture is not an option, your student can draw the cover. We would like our older students, specifically Upper El and Jr. High, to include a short summary of their book and what they liked about it. We want students to be able to walk around the school and see books that they might be excited to read!

Throughout the week we encourage students to be reading at home and at school. Our literacy committee created a beautiful tree in the front of the school. Each time a student reads a book, they get to add a leaf to the tree. Please encourage your student to spend time at home reading lots of books! We want our tree to be full of leaves!

Lastly, we will have a read-a-thon on Friday from 10:00-11:00am. Students are encouraged to bring books from home to enjoy. Please no pillows, blankets, or stuffed animals.
