Parent Teacher Conference

Hello Families,

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up quickly.  They will be help Feb. 13, 14 & 15th this year.  These conferences will be student-led.  Your child will be sharing their portfolio with you and showing you all the amazing things they are doing in the classroom.  Please plan on coming and celebrating your child’s education.

Chili Cook Off – Sixth Grade Volunteers

Sixth Grade Families,
Please follow this link if your 6th grader wants to sign up to volunteer at the Chili Cook Off.  They will earn precious volunteer hours.

S.T.E.M. Week

S.T.E.M. week has been wonderful.  I have loved seeing all of their home projects; invention convention, science fair and S.T.E.M. projects.  The students have enjoyed assemblies, guest speaker, fifth and sixth bothe went on field trips and many S.T.E.M. activities.

Upcoming Events are as follows:

THERE WILL BE NO HOME PROJECT THIS NEXT MONTH. WE WILL BE DOING ACTIVITIES IN THE CLASSROOM WHICH WILL TAKE THE PLACE OF THE HOME PROJECTS.  YOU WILL NOT NEED TO HELP YOUR CHILD DO A HOME PROJECT FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY.  THE NEXT PROJECT YOUR CHILD WILL NEED TO DO IS A FREE CHOICE BOOK REPORT.  THIS WILL BE DUE ON MARCH 15TH. 2018-2019 Book Report Rubric 

Monday Jan. 21st – NO SCHOOL – Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Wednesday Jan. 23rd – 6th Graders go to STARBASE – Mr. John and Ms. Kirsten will be accompanying them.

Thursday Jan. 24th – 5th Graders have an in school assembly all about states of matter.

Tuesday Jan. 29th – CHILI COOK-OFF Fundraiser

Wednesday Jan. 30th – 6th Graders go to STARBASE – Mr. John and Ms. Amity will be accompanying them.

Wednesday Jan. 6th – 6th Graders go to STARBASE – Ms. Laura and Ms. Amy will be accompanying them.

The fieldtrip scheduled for Friday Feb. 8th to Pobanz Orthodontics has been cancelled.

STEM Donations

Thank you for the generous donations for our classroom STEM activities.  We did two of the activities last week and will continue with them this week.  We couldn’t do these things without support from home.  Thanks again for all you do for our classroom!

STARBASE is Tuesday Jan. 15th 2019

STARBASE is Tuesday Jan. 15th this week for the sixth graders!

REMEMBER it is your responsibility to make sure your child gets to and from STARBASE.  Please have your child at the Hill Aerospace Museum between 9:00 and 9:10 a.m. and pick them up at the same spot at 2:45 p.m.

Drop off and pick up location:

Hill Aerospace Museum

7961 Wardleigh Rd. Hill AFB, UT 84056

Drop off time: Between 9:00 – 9:10 (gates for museum open at 9 a.m.) the bus will leave at 9:15 a.m.

Pick up time: 2:45 p.m. – Teachers will wait until 3:00 p.m. and then the teachers need to leave.  Please do not be late to pick up your children.

Hill Air Force Base has graciously offered to let us use two of their buses to transport our students onto base.  *Please do not be late dropping off or picking up your students.  We do not want to hold up the base buses from other routes or events they may have going on that day. *

Please send your child with a sack lunch and a bottle of water.  There is NOT a microwave at STARBASE, make sure your child’s lunch does not need to be heated up.  The students are not allowed to bring anything to drink other than water.  (STARBASE rule) If your child brings something other than water it will be taken from them and thrown away.  All students are required to wear M.M.A. dress code all five days of STARBASE.  Thank you for respecting our dress-code even when we are away from school.

SCREENAGERS

On January 10th from 6-7:30 PM, MMA will be screening the documentary SCREENAGERS for all interested parents, students and friends of the school in the Junior High commons area.

SCREENAGERS – The average child in America spends more time consuming electronic media than going to school, with many teenagers going online “almost constantly.” In SCREENAGERS, physician and filmmaker Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into family life to explores parental struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant and funny stories along with insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.
