6th Grade Planetarium Field Trip

Good Evening.

In support of our 6th grade science curriculum, we have a field trip to the Clark Planetarium Scheduled on March 22.  Your child should have brought home a permission slip today.  Please be sure to sign and return this slip as soon as possible.

Important note:  students are taking the early train!  Your child needs to be dropped off at the Ogden Frontrunner Station at 7:15am the morning of the field trip.

March 1st!!

In like a lion, out like a lamb?  So far March as been quite sheepish.  I hope I don’t jinx this great weather.  Of course, you know what they say about weather in Utah, right?

Just a reminder that there is no IXL homework for the next several weeks.  Instead, your kids should be working on Utah Compose.  Each grade level has an assigned essay.  We have begun these in class, but students are expected to work on them at home as well. Essays are due Friday (meaning prior to the end of school).

Once child submits a draft, Utah Compose will recommend lessons to help your child improve his writing skills.  I highly recommend these lessons.  A reminder that our SAGE writing assessment is in April.  The skills your child is building now, and the time spent practicing, will directly affect his level of comfort and performance on the exam.

If your child is absent for a number of days in a row, please be sure they are looking at the essay assignment.  I understand that some illnesses do not allow for much more than lying in bed being completely miserable; however, the more your child is able to keep up at home, the less behind they will feel when they return to school.

A reminder that our 5th level students have maturation next Wednesday, March 9.

Valentine Exchange Activity

Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday this year right in the middle of a 4 day weekend.  Because of this fact, our class will have a small Valentine’s exchange activity on Thursday, February 11.

This year, like last, we will incorporate math with our exchange.  Attached you will find the Valentine project directions (to be made at home), grid paper to create box, and the rubric the students will use to rate their project during class.

Guide lines for participation:

  • Participation is not mandatory, but if your child chooses to participate, they must bring a Valentine for everyone in the class.
  • If your child wants to participate in the exchange, they must follow the guidelines for the Valentine’s Box construction.
  • No candy.
  • Have fun!
  • Class list has been emailed to you.

Reminder: Early out 1:00 pm Tuesday-Thursday, February 9-11.  Please make arrangements to pick up your child at this time each day.  Book fair during PTC

International Festival and Quick Reminders

Just a quick reminder that the International Festival is on Wednesday, December 16 from 9am-11am.  Your children should bring their projects in tomorrow to give them an opportunity to practice their presentation with their peers before presenting to the rest of the school.

A quick reminder: Though I know Star Wars Fever is abundant, please remember no characters or logos on your children’s clothing.  This policy minimizes distractions for all of our students.

Science Fair, International Festival and Utah Compose

As we enter the last two weeks of the year before winter break, please note the following important dates:

Utah Compose Rough Draft – December 6

International Festival – December 16(Report due December 15)

Science Fair – Materials and Procedures – December 18

Pancake Breakfast – December 18

In this final push, when your students are looking forward to Winter Break, it is important to stay focused and on task.  Please check in with your students to make sure they complete homework and other in class tasks on time.   Thank you for your support.
